1 Newsletter of Morning Star Lutheran Church ~ Missouri Synod Lakeside, California We Have Witnessed A Miracle! I think that we use that word Miracle a little bit too lightly. We call things miracles, and sometimes they aren t really that at all. I have done that, and I m guessing that maybe you have too. This is what I love so much about the Miracles of Jesus -- they ARE miraculous, they ARE things that only He could do, and through them Jesus Christ shows us a glimpse of God s miraculous power, and most especially His power to defeat sin, death and the devil for you and for me. As a Pastor, I have baptized many people, some as old as 73 years, and some as young as 9 days. Every time I participate in a Baptism, I get to see a Miracle in progress. And so do you! Whenever you see a child of God being welcomed into His family through plain, ordinary water connected to the power of God s Word, and His promises, you and I are witnessing a true miracle. This past week, I was so privileged to baptize an infant who was born 8 weeks premature, who was cared for by the Lord each day of his brandnew life, and his family wanted to bring him to the waters of Holy Baptism --- to see a miracle. To see what only God could do in calling this little child holy, innocent, and forgiven in His sight. It really IS a miracle! Throughout this year, whenever and wherever God places you, be on the lookout for the Miracles that He is working in and around you. When you see what appears to be really good timing in your life, ask yourself if perhaps the Lord, who is Himself timeless, is speaking to you in this circumstance. If you see something that the world would pass off as coincidental, ask yourself -- has God, who is without time or space and holds all of Creation in His hands -- been at work in my life, even what seem to be the small things? Because remember -- the same Lord who called the Universe into being, who still today calls the stars by their names, each one -- that same Lord is with you. THAT, my dear friends in Jesus, is a Miracle. It is God showing again that He is a God of grace, of mercy, of forgiveness, and of hope. And as we move through the season of Lent, we get to see God s Mercy on full display. We get to see God giving of Himself so that we might have everything in Him. WE HAVE witnessed a Miracle --- and God continues to work in and through your life and mine each and every day. 3 Page 3 Love is.. How Often do we tell someone: Love ya, Love ya too? Is that really a sincere phrase, or in it nonchalant quick speak? Now that Saint Valentine s day is passed, we have collected, given, and received many different quotations concerning love some sincere, some jokes. So, what might I mean when I say, I love you? And what type of love is that? There is agape love used by Christians to express unconditional love of God for His children to will the good of another. Agape love is the stuff that holds a marriage and family together through all kinds of situations and seasons. It is a selfless, unconditional type of love that helps people to forgive one another, to respect one another, and to serve one another day in and day out. Some say there is only one love in this life to love and be loved. Some say just love yourself. Love is when the other person s happiness is more important than your own. Some say being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. Paul writes in 1Corinthians 13:4-5, that love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud; it does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Unfortunately, we humans are incapable of perfect love, perfect forgiveness, perfect anything. Only our Savior is perfect, whose agape love is without flaw. There are at least 43 verses in Scripture that tell us that He will be our God, and we will be His people. Anyway, why would God do that? Why would He give us blessed assurance in the form of His only Son Jesus? For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Notice that God loved the world, and we are part of that. Why would God tell us that He would remember our confessed sins no more, as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us? (Psalm 103: 12). That is Agape! Why would God do that? He wants a personal everlasting relationship with us all, and all includes me! In Psalm 103:17, King David writes But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with the children s children. (That s me also.) Just imagine what the Word of God says about those who belong to Him. What tender love is revealed in His words. We are the apple of His eye. He rejoices over us. He sings over us. He abounds in love over us. He has the compassion of a Father over us. He delights over us, and this love is from everlasting to everlasting. ( Till the twelfth of never. and that s a long- long time. Quote from Johnny Mathis.) So, the next time someone says Love Ya, remember Beloved, let us love one another, for Love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4: 7-8).
