2 Here we are, mere days from Christmas, and we hear a Gospel anticipating the birth of another child. Mary has received word that her cousin Elizabeth is with child. Pregnant as she is, Mary "set out and traveled to the hill country in haste." She has recently received the greatest news of her life - that she is to be mother to the Messiah by the power of the Holy Spirit - but her concern is for her cousin in need. Through God's grace, Elizabeth turns it into an opportunity to honor the coming Christ. "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." Yet Mary's example of selflessness should inspire us. As Christmas draws near, there is plenty of goodness to anticipate for many of us. We'll reunite with family and friends, uphold time-honored traditions, swap stories old and new, exchange gifts, and welcome Jesus at the Christmas liturgy. These are wonderful things! Of course, they probably all come with their own to-do list. Shop for last-minute gifts, pick up recipe ingredients, ready the guest room, or pack your own bags. Mary probably had things to do as well. She had a lot to consider, for one thing. How do you plan to tell your parents you're pregnant, but no man was involved? When Joseph finds out, who will care for the practical needs of you and your child? Into what may have been a chaos of questions, Mary receives news that someone is in need. She goes immediately. In these final days before Christmas, stay watchful and awake! You never know when God might invite you to welcome, hospitality, and compassion. It might be tempting to reject the opportunity for your own needs. Follow the example of Mary! If God is providing you an opportunity to love, He will provide the means to accomplish all your other tasks. This Christmas season, may you too hear, "Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." 4 The St Edwards Knights of Columbus would like to invite all members of the Parish Community to participate in their Family Rosary Program. The Knights will pray the Rosary after the 11:00AM Mass NEXT Sunday, December 30th. The Knights will hold a Novena for Life the weekend of January 12 & 13th. They will hand out prayer cards after mass. We ask that you pray the Novena for 9 days until the 22nd. Attention all Eucharistic Ministers & Lectors: On Sunday Feb 24 lunch will be provided after the 11:00am mass in the hall. Afterwards, At 1:00 p.m. The Diocesan video will be shown, with explanation of new norms for ministers. After that, we will review St. Edward parish procedures for training for all ministers and lectors. By attending this meeting, our Eucharistic ministers and lectors will fulfill training and formation requirement to continue in that ministry. Testimonies You are cordially invited on Saturday, January 5 th, immediately after the 5:30PM Mass in the church, to hear exciting personal testimonies where God stepped in and changed the course of a situation that seemed hopeless and impossible. As we remember that with God all things are possible. Testimonies is a new outreach that explains the benefits, wonder, awe and thanksgiving of listening to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. There will be prayer time available for your needs, or for others that linger on your heart at the end of the testimonies. All ages are welcome.

5 3rd, 4th & 5th grade will not meet weekly in the month of January. Instead, they have assigned retreat dates as follows: 3rd Grade: Sunday Jan. 6th starts with the 11:00mass and a retreat to follow for the children from 12:00-2:30pm in the hall. 4th Grade: Sunday Jan. 13th starts with the 11:00mass and a retreat to follow for the children from 12:00-2:30pm in the hall. 5th Grade: Sunday Jan. 27th starts with the 11:00mass and a retreat to follow for the children from 12:00-2:30pm in the hall. David s kingship recalls the kingship of Adam in the Garden of Eden and also foreshadows the kingship of Jesus Christ. Adam was the first king and steward of the rightly ordered Garden of Eden, but he failed. Later, David emerged as hope of Israel who sought to restore order in the Garden and bring the world under the lordship of God. But being imperfect, David did not fully accomplish this task.
