3 A Word from the Pastor Dearly beloved in Christ, Greetings to you in the most precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. On our request, Bishop Dr. Taranath S. Sagar, the Bishop of SIRC was kind enough to consider our request and transferred both of us. I have been transferred to Jayanagar Methodist Church and Pastor Mathew George to Grace Methodist Church, Hormavu. We want to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to our Bishop. I am grateful to God for the privilege to serve in IMC for the three and half years (May 09 to Oct 12). I praise God for all the rich experiences I had and I am grateful to all of you for upholding us in your sincere prayers. The note worthy incident and achievement during my time is that the renewal of the land lease from B.D.A. Another note worthy decision was taken by the Pastorate Committee, the Conference and the Regional Executive Board of SIRC is the Its By Faith Project. I hope it will be a reality in the near future as our Fund Raising and Building Committee members are putting their every effort for the success. This project will facilitate the needs of our Sunday School, our administration and Pastors residences. I thank each one of the contributors and I plead to uphold this project in your prayers. I take this opportunity to welcome Rev. N. H. Jayawanth, the incoming Senior Pastor, Rev. David Nathaniel, D.S. & the Associate Pastor and Rev. Sebastian Ravikumar, Assistant Pastor. Our prayers and best wishes for the fruitful ministry in Indiranagar Methodist Church, Bangalore. Traditionally all the Methodist Churches focus their meditation on Thanksgiving duriing this month. I wish all the amount you collect on the Thanksgiving Sunday could be given it for It s By Faith project but this, you have to decide in your next Pastorate Committee. Let me share few of my thoughts about Thanksgiving : Paul in 1 Thess. 5:18 says, In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. It is said that practicing thanksgiving is therapeutic. When we say from the bottom of our hearts, Thanks for everything, we are on the way to being happy, healthy people. One day, a pessimist finds himself constantly bothered by things. His health begins to fail, the world is in a terrible state and his business begins to fall apart. He would always complain about himself and the circumstances surrounding him. But after a few days, people noticed that he has begun to change. He is more vibrant and enthusiastic than before. When asked to explain the marked change, he replied, Its good therapy to give thanks. Every night in bed, I began to think of all the good things that happened to me that day instead of the bad. I began to pray to the Lord, Thanks for everything, turn out the lights, and peacefully go to sleep. Based on the scripture 1 Thess. 5:18, let us look at how thanksgiving benefits us. INDIRANAGAR METHODIST CHURCH 3
4 I. Thanksgiving with a grateful spirit Paul emphatically asserts that the will of God is for you to have a grateful spiritthat in everything (you) give thanks. A grateful spirit makes a person happier and makes life better. Let us think of a few things for which we can be grateful. a) Daily bread (Acts 27:35). b) Christian friends (Rom. 8:1). c) Deliverance from anxiety and worry (2 Cor. 2:14). d) Victory over temptation (Rom. 7:24-25). e) The unspeakable gift of Christ (2 Cor. 9:15). A Pastor tells a story of a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He was an empty shell. Someone suggested that he could avoid further damage by practicing the therapy of thanksgiving. First, he was told to make a list of everyone who had helped him throughout the years. Second, he was told to fill his mind with thanksgiving for all the things that these people had done for him. Third, he was asked to write a letter of thanks to one person who had especially blessed his life. He thought of his school teacher who was very old. He wrote to her and expressed how much he loved her and appreciated her for all the contributions she had made in his life. A few days later, he received a reply. The teacher, addressing him by his pet name replied, As far as I can recall, among all the children that I have taught over the years, you are the only one who wrote to me and thanked me. You have made me so happy. This thrilled the man so much that he began writing letters to everyone on his list. Over the next few months, he had become a changed man. II. Thanksgiving builds up a right attitude In 1 Thess. 5:18, Paul says that in spite of all that may happen, continue to thank God in all circumstances. In times of happiness, Praise be to the Lord. In times of sorrow, his assurance that Lo, I am with you always is with us. In times of failure, his words I have overcome the world gives us confidence. When we walk alone, his protection is available to us. The Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard (Isaiah 52:12b). As you celebrate the month of thanksgiving, May the Lord bless you and your dear ones and enable you to be a people of Thanksgiving for the gift of life and Salvation that he has given us in Christ. Through your exemplary life, may you bring others to Christ. In closing, on behalf of Rev. Mathew George and me, we bid you fare-well. God bless you. Yours in His service, Rev. David Vijaya Kumar Senior Pastor Senior Citizens Fellowship All Senior Citizens' of IMC above 60 years are invited to join the Senior Citizens' Christmas Fellowship with the Bangalore Friend In Need Society on Saturday November 24th 2012 at 9:30 am For more details, Please contact Mrs. Parin Paul at INDIRANAGAR METHODIST CHURCH 4

MEMORIZE THE BIBLE Theme: 'WALKING WITH GOD IN THANKSGIVING' Sunday, November 4: Psalm 100:4&5 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Sunday, November 11: Psalm 66:1-4 Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise. Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! Because of your great power, your enemies cringe before you. All the earth worships you; they sing praises to you, sing praises to your name." Sunday, November 18: Psalm 69:30-32 I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. Let the oppressed see it and be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. Sunday, November25: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. INDIRANAGAR METHODIST CHURCH 5

8 Through it all It has been a journey in His service for us(the last 40 months forus Rev. David Vijay Kumar and 3 months for Rev.Mathew George) at the Indiranagar Methodist Church. The Lord had brought us here through the South India Regional Conference. It has been a journey of bouquets and brickets. The Lord has lead us in every step though we had no support sometimes. We are only doing His Will in making IMC a House of prayer and place of Worship. There has been a continuous tirade against the Pastors on issues that were trivial. It culminated in the episode as you all know on the theft that took place in the Church on September 2nd,2012. When we wanted to give a Police complaint, one of the members asked us not to do so and said that he would compensate the amount and get it back later when it is recovered. We persisted on going to the Police. It was during the Pastorate Committee meeting that the members accused us of wrong and asked us to compensate the money, especially all the members of the Finance Committee. A few in the committee were using the influence and positions to making the situation volatile. There was much uneasiness and unhappiness among us Pastors. Some members even suspected Senior Pastor's children. This was very hurting. Though we suspected Manjunath, we had no evidence. One of the members even asked the Police to go slow on the investigation and on the interrogation of the suspects. Because of the prayers of the sincere people, the culprit was caught. The JeevanBhima Nagar Police were so good in investigating the case and they were committed to their duty. They could not be bought as some had thought. Some members met the Bishop and asked us to be transferred. We met the Bishop Dr.TaranathSagar and apprised him of the situation and the behavior of some members. The culprit was caught, and then we ourselves requested our Bishop to transfer us from IMC. After the culprit was apprehended, at the emergency PC, some members accused us of getting Manjunath detained and said that we need to get him released. Some people even gave the bail amount and said that the amount was from the Church. It was very shocking behavior of some members who seem to have some vested interest in ensuring unrest among the Pastors and the congregation. Some even sent misinformation and misrepresentation of the facts of the episode to a googlegroup who published an demeaning the Pastors and the Church. Through it all one thing was clear, God is sovereign and whoever tries to bring unrest to His Church will not succeed. He gave us the peace and He brought to justice the pillager of the crime. We are grateful to God for he has protected us and kept us under His wings. Our hearts were heavy with the accusations and aspersions cast against us but God delivered us and our God is a faithful and a God of justice. As per our request we are grateful to the Bishop in transferring us. We forgive all who rose against us and we apologize if there had been instances where we had been hard because of the situation having warranted it. We are grateful to all those who were on their knees with us during this time. In conclusion, we paraphrase the words of the songwriter," Through it all, we've had many tears and sorrows, but in every situation, God gave us blessed consolation, and our trials came to only make us strong. Through it all, we've learned to trust in Jesus, we've learned to trust in God and we 've learned to depend upon His Word" Rev. David Vijaya Kumar Sr. Pastor Rev. Mathew George. M Asst. 10 DISPENSATIONS / AGES The Scripture divide time, meaning the entire period from the creation to ne earth of revelation 21:1 into seven unequal periods usually called Dispensations (Eph3 :2), also called as ages (Eph2:7) and as days of the Lord ect The periods are identified in Scripture by some changes in the method of God s approach/ dealing towards mankind or a section of mankind related to sin and man s responsibility. Each of the dispensation may be considered as new test to natural man related to sin and ends up in judgments highlighting his utter failure. The most disastrous of the failures of the natural man was closed by judgments- So He drove out the man.( Gen1 :26; 2:16,17;3:6; 3:22-24). Outside of Time the Scripture mention two ages, before time the ALPHA or creative ages and after time THE OMEGA or ages of ages. In time there are three ages and seven dispensations Ages are: 1) ante Diluvian age - This extends from the restoration of the earth from its chaotic condition to the flood It is divided into two dispensations. 2) The present age- From the flood to the second stage of Christ s coming called the revelation It covers four dispensations. 3) The ages of ages: This is a dual age, includes the millennial age and perfect age during which time the earth is renovated by fire. It will be done second stage of second coming DISPENSATIONS ARE: 1) Dispensation of innocence- before the fall. 2) Dispensation of conscience before the flood ( when guided by conscience, conscience may produce fear and remorse, but it will not keep men from doing wrong for it impsrts no power. 3) Dispensation of human Government - 4) Dispensation of promise- from the falling of Abraham to mt Sinai 5) Dispensation of Law- from mt Sinai to the cross of Christ. 6) Dispensation of grace-from the Cross to the second advent 7) Dispensation of millennium Dispensation are not the same always, it varies from each one. Dispensations are probationary periods; the form of administration is different and progressive in each dispensation. For illustration the administration of legal dispensation was that of the law, the present dispensation is that of grace and the one to follow is righteousness where administration of the law does not act. 1 Timothy 2 :4 says: God our savior who wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth :2Peter: 3:9 says : He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to punish, but everyone to come to Him in repentance. Scholars say that five of these dispensations or periods have been fulfilled, we are probably living towards its close and have before the seventh and the last millennium.obviously time is very short, what are our plans to fulfill God s desire/will!?
