8 What is a missional church? * Jesus- centered * Outwardly focus * Next door and around the world * Re- rooting in the community * Discovering the assets of the congregation and responding to the opportunities in the neighborhood and community

9 What is a missional church? * Involves three great listenings to God, to one another, to the world * Relationship, relationship, relationship with God, with one another, with the world * Serving God, one another, the world

10 What is a missional church? * Being called into deeper discipleship living our faith in our daily lives * Developing and empowering leaders * Discovery of spiritual gifts and empowering for service * Sharing our faith

11 What is a missional church? * In his book, Missional Renaissance, Reggie McNeal writes: Missional is a way of living, not an affiliation or activity. To think and to live missionally means seeing all life as a way to be engaged with the mission of God in the world.

Reggie McNeal continues * Ge6ng Missional will require that you make three shi<s, both in your thinking and in your behavior: * From internal to external in terms of ministry focus * From program development to people development in terms of core ac-vity * From church- based to kingdom- based in terms of leadership agenda

16 Shared Leadership * Everyone knows that Jesus is the leader * Pastoral leader and lay leaders are in partnership * Empowering leaders * Raising up new leaders

17 Willingness to Change * Sense of Common Purpose What is God calling us to do..sometimes this is a new thing or a new way * Shared Leadership trust * Discernment comes in community * Leading change is not for the faint hearted * Being a leader in the church takes courage and boldness

19 Mission: Imaginable Is your congregation ready? Ask these questions..

20 Purpose * Does the congrega-on have lijle interest in its purpose and invest most of its imagina-on in figuring out how to maintain or survive? * Does the congrega-on have an understanding that God has placed them where they are for a purpose and a growing sense of what that purpose is?

21 Engagement * Does the congrega-on prejy much keep to itself with all of the ac-vity and rela-onships happening inside the building? * Is the congrega-on deeply invested in the surrounding community and are there growing rela-onships between folks in the community and members in the congrega-on?

22 Tes0mony * Is it expected that it is the pastor s job to think and talk about these kinds of things? * Do people have a convic-on that God is at work in their own lives and is it common to hear people talking about what God is doing in their life?

23 Involvement * Is there a frustra-on that the same people are always doing everything and that, we can t do anything new because people are just stretched too thin? * Is there a sense of surprise at who is responding to God s call to step into leadership or embrace new endeavors of ministry?

24 Vibrancy * Is there a sense that today will probably be prejy much like yesterday? * Is there a buzz in the air the an-cipa-on that something could happen today that God is up to something here?

25 Hope * Does the congrega-on have a sense that their best days are behind them and possibly even a suspicion that God may be holding out on them? * Does the congrega-on have a sense that God is leading them into a full and exci-ng future of hope?
