2 Church Plant Partnership Church Plant Committee The Lord has many creative leaders in His church, who have used their creativity to develop various good and workable models for church planting. There is no one model that is best for all circumstances. The Georgia Assemblies of God encourages churches to parent church plants with one of the models that will work best in their situation. There are several of the more popular models included in the Appendix. Realizing that Georgia is growing in population and in the number of un-churched people, we must plant more churches. While there are several good church planting models available to churches who desire to become a parent, many of the Georgia Assemblies of God churches do not possess all the resources to parent alone. Inherently a tension arises between the need for new church plants and the available resources. The Georgia Assemblies of God are committed to working the field our Lord has given us, by doing everything that we can to harvest our State for His glory. Since it is a fact that one of the most effective ways for reaching the lost is church planting, we desire to have an aggressive and proactive model for church planting that allows the greatest number of churches to be involved. Therefore, for those churches that desire to be strategically and significantly involved in planting a church and yet lack all the resources, the Georgia Assemblies of God Ministry and Resource Center wants to partner with you. Following is a brief synopsis of the steps that a church needs to take to partner with the Georgia Ministry and Resource Center for church planting. Passion to Plant That is right, the local church must have a passion to plant a church in a strategic area that they have been praying for and are committed to reaching. The partnership would rely on the pastor and the leadership of the local church to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit in deciding where to place the new church plant. Apply The pastor will complete the Partnership Application included and mail it to Georgia Missions at the Georgia Ministry and Resource Center. Assess After the coordinator receives the completed application, he will schedule a church assessment to see if the pastor, leadership, and church body are ready for such an endeavor. Interview After the assessment is complete the Church Plant Committee will interview the pastor (key leaders may attend also). The CPC will go over the church assessment with the pastor as well as ask pertinent and probing questions. After the interview is complete, the

3 CPC will make their recommendation to the Board. The Georgia Missions Board will make the final decision regarding the establishment of a church plant partnership. Agreement When the Board approves a Church Plant Partnership then the church and the Georgia Assemblies of God Ministry and Resource Center will enter into a written agreement that both parties are pleased and confident about. Since every situation is different, a specific and unique agreement between each church entering the partnership and the GMRC will be written. Following are some items that each agreement will contain: Oversight Who is in charge anyway? GMRC resource commitment How much financial and other resources can we expect from GMRC? Church resource commitment How much financial, people, and other resources is the church expected to contribute? Church Plant Pastor Who will select the church plant pastor? Governance Who decides how the church plant will operate? Reporting Who reports to whom, and how is it done? End Game What are the expectations for the church plant becoming a GCA church and how long will the partnership last with the GMRC? The above items are not exhaustive and serve only to give an example of what will be included in a Church Plant Partnership Agreement. Church Plant Committee The Coordinator or one of the Church Plant Committee members will be glad to come, make a presentation, and answer any questions to any pastor, leadership team, or church about the Partnership Plan. Church Plant Pastor Whether the local church, the CPC, or a collaborate effort selects the church plant pastor, if there is a partnership with the GMRC the church plant pastor will have to go through an established process for approval. Your interest in church planting says something very important about you. It says that you are willing to take seriously the need to evangelize your community and Georgia. We realize that the challenge to plant a new work can be a little intimidating, but remember what God said to Joshua, Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
