Discover, Maximize and Release Your Missional Capacity In starting a new mission or renewal of an existing congregation, the initial task should be capacity- and capability-oriented thinking. That is a faith-driven approach rather than fear driven. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
Mission is always driven! DRIVEN BY WHAT? Matt. 28: Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations Go believing, trusting and totally relying on Jesus universal authority, power, control and leadership. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
Mission is always driven! DRIVEN BY WHAT? Mark 16: He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
Mission is always driven! DRIVEN BY WHAT? Luke 24: 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high. Acts 1: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
Discover and Maximize Your Missional Capacity Discovering and maximizing our capacity for mission emerges as a result of seven biblical and organic assessment principles. The Seven MCA principles for discovering and maximizing the missional capacity of a congregation are: MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
Discover and Maximize Your Missional Capacity The Seven MCAs I. Missional Condition Assessment II. III. IV. Missional Context Assessment Missional Call Assessment Missional Cost Assessment V. Missional Commitment Assessment VI. VII. Missional Companions Assessment Missional Candidate Assessment MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
I. Missional Condition Assessment (MCA) I. Currently active ministries of the church MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
I. Missional Condition Assessment (MCA) I. Currently active ministries of the church II. The number of disciples in the church MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
I. Missional Condition Assessment (MCA) I. Currently active ministries of the church III. The current financial state of the church II. The number of disciples in the church MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
I. Missional Condition Assessment (MCA) I. The currently active ministries of the church IV. The building and/or ministry facility of the church II. The number disciples of the church III. The current financial state of the church MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
I. Missional Condition Assessment (MCA) I. The currently active ministries of the church V. The state of congregational climate for mission and ministry II. The number of disciples of the church IV. The building and/or ministry facility of the church III.
The current financial state of the church MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
I. Missional Condition Assessment (MCA) The five indicators of mission and ministry conditions are: 1. What kind ministries are taking place? List them as they are. 2. How many people are active disciples in the church, given the basic marks of discipleship. 3. What is the financial state of the church? Where is the major portion of the money going? 4. Is the building/church facility a liability or an asset to the mission and ministry? 5. How healthy is the climate in the church for mission and ministry? MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
II. Missional Context Assessment (MCA) Mission is consistently contextual. If a church neglects its responsibility of engaging its context, it becomes irrelevant. John 17:15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
II. Missional Context Assessment (MCA) There are two ways of doing missional context assessment Formal Context Assessment Informal Context Assessment MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
II. Missional Context Assessment (MCA) Formal context assessment is done through various demographic reporting and analysis vendors or service agencies: Various Christian research and statistics vendors Percept US census Chamber of commerce State, county and court houses MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
II. Missional Context Assessment (MCA) Informal context assessment is a vital method of gathering contextual data in the process of engaging our missional context Context mapping as a small group exercise Trend reading as a small group exercise Meet and greet the community Invite community leaders to hear the state of the community Host community events to learn the dynamics and power structure of the area MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
II. Missional Context Assessment (MCA) At the end of the formal and informal context assessments, churches should define and display a targeted missional territory. The actual outcome of missional context assessment is a defined and systematically targeted missional territory. Jerusalem Judea Samaria Ends of the Earth MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) What is God calling us to do? What is our mission, vision and purpose? God s call is not limited to individuals. God calls Individuals Families Churches Nations MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) Acts 13:1 Missional Call 1. Call Comes in Prayer MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov

III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) As a result of a prayerful missional call assessment, a church will have clear: MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) Vision MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) Vision Mission MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) Vision Mission Purpose MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) Vision Mission Principles Purpose MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
III. Missional Call Assessment (MCA) Vision Mission Purpose Identity Principles MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) 2. Context 1. Condition 3. Call 4. Cost MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) Luke 14:28-29 Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) First, sit down Come to the table to join /sit together as a mission driven community of disciples. Clearly understand the cost of discipleship. Pray, study, ask, reflect, think, evaluate, discuss, take time, meet often, learn and make a faith-grounded decision. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) Estimate the cost Estimate The best possible assumption Willingness to adjust and learn in the mission field MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) Estimate the cost Estimate The best possible assumption Cost Salvation is free but mission is costly Willingness to adjust and learn in the mission field Inspire and motivate for sacrifice MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) See if he has enough money to complete it 1. Count MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) See if he has enough money to complete it 1. Count 2. Enough MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) See if he has enough money to complete it 1. Count 2. Enough 3. Finish MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) In practical terms, the sacrificial nature of mission should be understood and accepted. Christianity without persecution is abnormal. Unless there is a strong spiritual foundation and a renewed mind to convince and sustain it, offering oneself as a living sacrifice is impossible. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
IV. Missional Cost Assessment (MCA) Internal Condition Context Call Cost Building a committed critical mass in the congregation determines the success of the mission. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
V. Missional Commitment Assessment (MCA) Mission commitment assessment is a stage in the MCA process where the number of people in the church who are committed to task of transformation or renewal of the church is determined. Missional commitment assessment is done in phases, starting with informational and educational exercises to empowering and releasing the committed core to the task. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
V. Missional Commitment Assessment (MCA) Phase One: Unveiling and interpreting the vision Presenting and interpreting mission and ministry vision is a critical task in the process of building a committed critical mass. At this stage of casting a vision for a church, getting people excited with what they see and creating a clear understanding are the first major achievements. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
V. Missional Commitment Assessment (MCA) Phase Two: Engaging people and creating sense of total ownership Once the vision is presented, people should be invited to offer their input and participate in the formation of the vision. As they participate in the process, the goal is creating a sense of passionate ownership. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
V. Missional Commitment Assessment (MCA) Phase Three: Creating clear, actionable activities and tasks to elicit actual measurable level of commitment Once passionate ownership is achieved, people should be offered an actual plan of action. Passionate ownership of a missional vision without an action plan leads to frustration, conflict and, in the long term, complacency. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
V. Missional Commitment Assessment (MCA) Phase Four: Evaluating the degree of commitment periodically and dealing with the result Passionate ownership of a missional vision plus a clear action plan takes people to work. However the level of morale and the degree of commitment should be assessed, evaluated and measured. The results of those assessments should be dealt with accordingly in a timely manner. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
V. Missional Commitment Assessment (MCA) Phase Five: Empowering and releasing more people to the task of unveiling and interpreting the vision to expand the committed mass base to the vision Healthy nature of commitment is multiplying the number of people actually committed to the missional vision. This should be done from the get-go to avoid the trend of the few doing the work and getting burned out. It is a healthy method of multiplying the committed critical mass in the church. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VI. Missional Companions Assessment (MCA) Mission should never be done in isolation. Companionship should be built, starting with small groups in a congregation all the way to local, national and international partnerships MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VI. Missional Companions Assessment (MCA) Congregation Global Mission Partners Mission District National Church Lutheran CORE Across the denomination MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VI. Missional Companions Assessment (MCA) Building an intentional system of missional companionship helps congregations in many ways. Among many, the following can be listed as the basic gains or benefits for local missional congregations: Establishing and maintaining unity in the church; Obtaining support system to sustain the mission; Gain an accountability partner to stick to the mission plan and to the vision as stated and shared. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VI. Missional Companions Assessment (MCA) Gain an accountability partner to stick to the missional plan and vision as prayerfully stated. Gain spiritual and prayer partners in pastoral colleagues, deans, missions team, Bishop. Gain access into shared resources and training opportunities. Share experience from the global, national and local perspective through denominational networking or connections. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Leadership is the making and breaking point in the missional capacity of any church. Missional leadership is a critical component of any successful mission. Missional leaders are always marked by their four dimensional effect (FDPM). MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Discipleship MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Equipping Discipleship MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Deploying Equipping Discipleship MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Multiplying Deploying Equipping Discipleship MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Missional Leader 1. Lays down the formational foundation, which is the most essential practice of discipleship MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Missional Leader 2. Equips disciples in preparation for the works of ministry. (Eph. 4) MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Missional Leader 3. Deploys or releases equipped disciples to go and be involved in mission and ministry MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
VII. Missional Candidate Assessment (MCA) Missional Leader 4. Every missional leader should work on self-multiplication. Healthy missional leaders multiply themselves by raising others to the level of leadership. MCA - Dr.G. Buba, Copyright Nov
