People: Sing, and bless God s name; tell the glad news of salvation from day to day. Proclaim God s glory to the nations, God s marvelous deeds to all peoples. Minister: Ascribe to the Lord the glory due God s name, worship the Lord in holy splendor. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over mighty waters. And also with you. Let us pray. God of heaven and earth, you call us to come in humility before you, bringing the offering of our very selves. As you revealed Jesus to be your Son in his baptism at the hand of John, so you claimed our lives in baptism, that we might die to sin and be raised with him to new life. By your Spirit, confirm in our hearts the witness that Christ is Savior of the world and our Lord. Accept all we have and are, O God, in the service of Jesus Christ, and strengthen us with your Spirit s power, now and forever. Amen. 2 3

Ken Feske Afterwards the minister will ask all to stand T h e R e n e w a l o f B a p t i s m a l V o w s Minister: Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil and renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? People: I do. Minister: Do you believe in God the Father? People: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Minister: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? People: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Minister: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? People: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Minister: Will you continue in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? Minister: Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? Minister: Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? Minister: Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? Minister: Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? Minister: May Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and bestowed upon us the forgiveness of sins, keep us in eternal life by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord. We have a very active Prayer Group in the church. It has been calculated that fewer than fifty percent of our members actually return a pledge card and yet so many regularly pledge/contribute. We so need your input. Do know that having envelopes in the past does not ensure envelopes in the future! Each year, please let us know of your wish to have pledge envelopes. Speaking of pledges, January 31, 2016, is set for our annual Congregational Meeting to approve the budget for After a wee cup of coffee and refreshments following the service, make your way back into the church for this brief and important meeting. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but delver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Show us your mercy, O Lord; And grant us your salvation. Clothe your ministers with righteousness; Let your people sing with joy. Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; For only in you can we live in safety. 6 Concluding prayer in unison In being baptized by John s waters, Jesus identified himself with sinners and your voice proclaimed him as your Son. Like a dove, your Spirit descended upon him, anointing him as the Christ, sent to preach good news to the captives; to recover sight for the blind and set free the oppressed; to announce that the time had come when you would save your people. We praise you that in being baptized by John in the river Jordan, we are joined to Christ and, with all of your children, are called to share in his ministry. Amen. Johann Kuhnau ( ) Saul s melancholy cured by the music played by David on his harp Improvisation from Japanese melody...emi Saeki (1958- ) Herr Gott, nun schleuß den Himmel auf... J. S. Bach ( ) Emi Saeki, born in Tokyo, is a professional organist, clavichordist, accompanist, and composer. Her music repertoire spans Renaissance to Contemporary and specializes in Japanese and Dutch music. She has given concerts in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, and The Netherlands as well as Japan, and has appeared on local radio and TV shows in Japan. Her CDs include Piazzolla and Schunittke, Wien Hall Live, Composition for Je bent de liefst and Mozart s London Sketchbook. Emi conducted research on the Clavichord and wrote a thesis: Jesuit missionaries and the clavichord in the Orient, published by CLAVICHORD INTERNATIONAL. She won second prize award for her composition in the Yamaha International Contest held in Kyoto, Japan, in 1992, and in 1995 received a soloist diploma from the Conservatory in Enschede, Netherlands, as well as the nomination for the Tubantia newspaper prize. Emi belonged to the Tokyo Embassy Choir (formerly called British Embassy Choir) from 2000 to 2013, as singer and instrumentalist. She held monthly organ concerts at Harajyuku Church, Tokyo. She resides in Tokyo, but she frequently visits Carmel. Please give her your warmest welcome! 12
