THE LORD GATHERS THE NATIONS We believe that the Triune God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit calls the world to worship Him. As a Christian community, we gather together on the first day of each week to worship Him as we are led by the Spirit. As we worship, we bring our praise and our concerns, our joys and our sorrows, our hopes and our troubles. Prelude (All music used by permission CCLI # ) *Please silence your electronic devices Announcements Reflection on Worship And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. - Hebrews 11:6 Call to Worship Psalm 147:1-5 Leader: Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. Response: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Leader: He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Response: Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. 2
Come People of the Risen King Authors, Keith & Kristyn Getty, Stuart Townend Come people of the Risen King; who delight to bring Him praise Come all and tune your hearts to sing; to the Morning Star of grace From the shifting shadows of the earth; we will lift our eyes to Him Where steady arms of mercy reach; to gather children in Rejoice, Rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice! One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice! Come, those whose joy is morning sun And those weeping through the night Come, those who tell of battles won; and those struggling in the fight For His perfect love will never change; and His mercies never cease But follow us through all our days; with the certain hope of peace Chorus Come, young and old from every land; men and women of the faith Come, those with full or empty hands; find the riches of His grace Over all the world, His people sing; shore to shore we hear them call The Truth that cries through every age; Our God is all in all! Chorus 3
Arise, My Soul, Arise Words by Charles Wesley and music by Kevin Twitt 1996 Kevin Twit Music Arise, my soul, arise, shake off your guilty fears The bleeding sacrifice, in my behalf appears Before the throne my Surety stands Before the throne my Surety stands My name is written on His hands (Men) Arise, (Women) Arise (Men) Arise, (Women) Arise, (Men) Arise (Unison) Arise, my soul, arise (2x) Shake off your guilty fears and rise He ever lives above, for me to intercede His all redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead His blood atoned for every race His blood atoned for every race And sprinkles now the throne of grace Chorus My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear With confidence I now draw nigh With confidence I now draw nigh And "Father, Abba, Father," cry Chorus Prayer for Children [Children ages 4 through 3 rd grade may leave for Children s Worship] 4
THE LORD REVEALS HIMSELF TO THE WORLD God calls the nations to follow him primarily through the reading and exposition of His inspired, infallible, and inerrant word as contained in the Old and New Testaments. We believe that the Scriptures teach what man is to believe concerning God and what duty God requires of man. Sermon Text (Pew Bible p. 813) Matthew 8: When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly. 7 And he said to him, I will come and heal him. 8 But the centurion replied, Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. 10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, Go; let it be done for you as you have believed. And the servant was healed at that very moment. 5
Sermon Ben Hagerup, Guest Preacher Basic Premises about Faith: 1) Everything we do from what we believe. 2) Your faith is only as good as the of your faith. 3) The Lord is the only truly object of faith. I. Faith Understands Jesus' Authority --> Application: Go to Jesus to get met! II. Faith Pleases Jesus --> Application: Daily take the of acting as if Jesus is really God. III. Jesus Rewards Faith --> Application: Experience two rewards of faith in Jesus. 6
By Faith Authors, Keith & Kristyn Getty, Stuart Townend By faith we see the hand of God In the light of creation's grand design In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness Who walk by faith and not by sight By faith our fathers roamed the earth With the power of His promise in their hearts Of a holy city built by God's own hand A place where peace and justice reign We will stand as children of the promise We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward Till the race is finished and the work is done We'll walk by faith and not by sight By faith the prophets saw a day When the longed-for Messiah would appear With the power to break the chains of sin and death And rise triumphant from the grave By faith the church was called to go In the power of the Spirit to the lost To deliver captives and to preach good news In every corner of the earth Chorus By faith this mountain shall be moved And the power of the gospel shall prevail For we know in Christ all things are possible For all who call upon His name Chorus 7
THE LORD FORGIVES OUR SINS We respond to God s revelation by acknowledging that we are not perfect. Therefore, we need the Savior, Jesus Christ. He invites us to bring Him all our faults and brokenness. Because of His gracious love, He forgives all our sins. Confession of Sin Psalm 106:4,6 Leader: Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people; help me when you save them Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness. Unison: Our Father, we confess to you that we do not always put our faith in your mighty power. Forgive us for thinking of ourselves more highly than we ought and not giving you the respect and honor You deserve. Jesus, forgive us for not taking You at Your Word and acting as if You have all authority. Help us to have faith like the centurion, to believe in your word and your promises no matter where we are. Holy Spirit, may we come to you daily, giving over our fears to you and resting in the presence of your peace. In Jesus name. Amen. [Silent Confession] Assurance of Pardon Isaiah 1:18; Psalm 106:48 Leader: Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. Unison: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, Amen! Praise the Lord! 8
THE LORD PROVIDES OUR DAILY BREAD Worship includes returning to God and His work a portion of our material possessions as tithes and offerings. We ask Him to use the generosity of His people to continue and to advance the work of His church. Offertory Scripture Leviticus 27:30 Leader: Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord. Offertory Ministry Moment - VBS THE LORD CALLS US TO PRAY God calls us to pray. Through prayer we seek His good and perfect will. Our prayer time includes praying for our May Missionary of the Month: Jesse. Jesse works with an organization that partners with many long term sending agencies to provide these agencies with missionaries who have true clarity and confidence around their calling to long term missions engagement and service while uniting agencies under the banner of the Great Commissions of Scripture. Prayer Scripture Isaiah 40:29-31 Leader: He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Elder Prayer Elder David Reyes 9
In Christ Alone Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand In Christ alone, Who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Til on the cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then, bursting forth in glorious day Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory Sin s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His, and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the pow r of Christ in me From life s first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No pow r of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Til He returns or calls me home Here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand 10
THE LORD SENDS US OUT INTO THE WORLD God does not save us simply from something. He saves us to something to be His messengers of redemption to a lost and fallen world. He sends us out redeemed, loved, and with a purpose. We are called to bear witness to what He is doing in our lives where we live, work, and play. Praise be to God! Closing Scripture Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Unison Response: Christ has died! Christ has risen! Christ will come again!!! Choral Response Tri-fold Amen 11
