2 From the Pen of Our Beloved Pastor, A.W. Anthony Mays Dear Members and Friends of the Mount, Thanks, be unto God for His unspeakable Gift! (2 Cor. 9:15). God s Gift to mankind is in the person of Jesus Christ, the Savior. Our confession, as believers, is that Jesus Christ is both, our personal Savior, and HE is LORD! How very rude and mean it is, in polite society, to reject a gracious gift given from the heart. Well, let s move this act from a social fault to the realm of the spiritual. Persons need to know that not only has God given the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, but to reject God s gift is to bring a very dark doom upon one s soul for all eternity. I believe there are far too many persons who are casually rejecting the Gift of Christ. Perhaps they believe it is but a small matter. We must be most diligent to make all persons aware that eternal destinations hang in the balance of whether one receives the Gift of Jesus Christ, or one rejects the Gift of Jesus Christ. Because of a summer visit from a former high school classmate, one whom I believed to have been a friend and a sincere Christian, who said to me that he now believes the Bible to only be a book written by men, a book among other good books, a books which has errors and contradictions, I was inspired from this to preach a series of topical sermons on The Sufficiency of the Scriptures, principally from 2 Timothy 3: Among our purposes in preaching those sermons was to charge true believers with the sacred stewardship of the Scriptures. We must never dismiss or relegate the Scriptures to the status of a book like many other books. The Bible is unique. There is no other book like the Bible. Physically, the Bible was written by human hands, but the hearts of minds of the original writers were inspired by God. The Bible is therefore, God s revealed Word to mankind. The Scriptures are God-breathed. God speaks through the Scriptures. The real problem in this matter is not the Bible, but rather the problem is with the heart of man. If the heart of man is deceived, the Bible will not be believed. Satan works to blind persons to the truth of God s Word in the Bible. Satan knows that if he can separate a potential believer from trust and confidence in the Bible, he is well on the way to turning that potential believer from God, and from the light of God. Satan has knowledge of the Bible, but Satan does not believe the Bible or submit himself to the Bible. Satan quoted Scripture to Jesus in the temptation experience, but Satan did not believe the truth of the words he was quoting. There are, and there have been, supposed experts and highly intelligent persons who have attacked the Bible. But the Bible has withstood every attack purposed for its destruction. The Bible has remained steadfast over the hundreds of years it has been under attack. And it will remain steadfast. The Bible has continued strong indeed, because it is the very Word of God. I hope that you take to heart some of the things said in these recent sermons we ve preached. But the most important trust that I would urge upon you is that you believe that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. In December, at our Annual Church Conference, I want to present a Bible reading plan that will encourage and facilitate that all the members of Mount Sinai will have read the entire Bible in one year. I believe it will be a blessing in many ways for us to go through the Bible together with this reading plan. Some few of you have indeed read the Bible through at least once, but it will never hurt to read it again. Remember a true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is a student, a learner, a follower of the Lord. It will require discipline, but with the help of the Lord, we can all do this thing. To God be the glory! 2

4 As you know, The Mount is on The Move! We are growing even while we are preparing to move. We know that change is a good thing, however some changes we weren t quite prepared for. Yet, God is still good and is still God! We are in a transitional stage as we clean up files and clean up our database and we are working hard to insure that our Birthday and Anniversary section will be as accurate as possible as we move forward. However, during this stage, we are looking to you to actively get involved with the Birthday and Anniversary section listing! If you would like to be included in the Birthday and Anniversary listing during your birth month or anniversary, we need for you to send an to info@themount.net asking to be included in that upcoming issue. Submissions MUST be in no later than the Mountaineer Submission Deadline 2 MONTHS PRIOR to your birthday! For example, if your birthday is in December we need to receive your submission no later than October 15th. Pardon Our Progress As we all continue to settle in and enjoy the blessing of our new home at 8500 Cameron Rd, the Media Ministry Team would like to remind everyone that just as the church is in a period of transition from old to new so are we! Our new media booth is equipped with the latest and greatest in digital technology and there is a lot for us to learn. Some of the features that were available on our old equipment is no available on the new equipment and there are so many exciting things that the new equipment offers that we could not dream of doing with the old equipment, so your patience and understanding are requested and will be greatly appreciated as we continue to learn and be trained on the inner workings of our new A/V, lighting and projection equipment. 5 Recently I was in North Carolina visiting my mother and grandmother. I had the privilege of sitting at the feet of my 96 year old grandmother and listened as she talked about her parents and grandparents. As she was reminiscing about growing up and the hard times, one thing remained constant and that was her faith in God. No matter what she came up against, it was her love of God that brought her through. She talked about dropping out of school in the 7th grade to take care of her grandfather because she was the oldest granddaughter. She eventually went back to school and earned her diploma. My grandmother s faith in God is strong and she lovingly talks about it. My grandmother passed her belief in God to her children and grandchildren. However, we had to experience God for ourselves to really know His goodness and mercy that she talked about. Oh what a blessing it was to sit at the feet of wisdom. According to the dictionary, wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. It s all about life experiences and in order to experience life, we have to move forward. Life is not easy; it has its ups and its down. But each up is a lesson and each down is a lesson in our quest for wisdom. When it comes to sitting at the feet of wisdom, we don t have to go any further than the bible story of Mary and Martha. Martha was in the kitchen doing busy work while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. Luke 10:39(KJV) states, And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and heard his word. We have to be willing to sit at someone s feet and hear a word of wisdom. Hopefully, we have Christian men and/or women in our lives that can help us along the way. If you do not have a mature Christian in your life to help you along this journey called life, I suggest you find one soon. Titus 2 talks about the aged men and the aged women teaching the young men and women. Being able to talk to mature Christians is a blessing that is never ending. One day you are sitting at someone s feet gaining wisdom and then you become the person sharing wisdom. In your life s journey, whose feet are you at? The 32 nd Pastoral Anniversary is right around the corner and we re ready to celebrate. The Pit Crew will be there with games and activities for all ages. You don t want to miss the food, fun, fellowship, costume contest, and so much more. No ghost, goblins, gorier nor scary costumes will be allowed. We are asking members to donate individually wrapped candy to the church office by Wednesday October 24th. It's that time again, It is time for your 2018 Mount Sinai Temple Wellness Ministry Holistic Health and Wellness Walk! This year we're going to do something different Join us in supporting families who are fighting for answers at the Austin Area Alzheimer's Associations' Walk to END Alzheimer's. NEXT SAT- URDAY OCT 13. This citywide event will be held at the Texas Heritage and Exposition Center. Simply going online at alz.org and follow the prompts. 6 Get Connected, Get Involved, Be Committed Single Life Ministry John 10:10 - I have come that you may have life, and life more abundantly. Col 3:17 - And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. The Single Life Ministry is a ministry designed to serve God, our Church, Community and All Single Adult members of The Mount. Our ministry purpose is to provide unconditional love and acceptance to all who come. The ministry offers opportunities for growth spiritually and educationally through the study of God s Word, as well as relationally and socially through fellowship activities on and off campus and Community Outreach by serving others inside and outside the church walls. If you re single and new to The Mount or just looking for a ministry to get more involved, the Single s Ministry is a great place to start. Yet again, God has thoroughly BLESSED us to see another Autumn season! We have prayed sincerely, we have been Restored and Revived, our Temple continues to be empowered and available to be reminded by the Holy Spirit, WE ARE BLESSED! Thank you Jesus!
