We will also see how God rescued His people and revealed to them their need for a greater redemption still the redemption of their hearts from sin. Finally, we will begin to see how God was faithful to provide Kings who would lead His people faithfully, but they could not overthrow their greatest oppressor the sinfulness of their hearts. His first letter contains one of the most quoted chapters in all of the Bible: 1 Corinthians, but we will see that this epistle is about more than love and marriage. At the heart of 1 Corinthians is the reality that the good news of Jesus Christ saves, changes, and unites God s people. In 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul defends the authenticity of his authority and teaching, helping his readers see that the gospel is full of seemingly paradoxical truths strength from weakness, life through death, and comfort in affliction. Highlighting how the gospel confronts our own culture s expectations and drawing implications for all of life, we will seek to discover the truth that the gospel humbles the powerful while strengthening the weak. Roger Barker was saved at 19 years old. He has taught the Bible since the early 1980 s. He has taught all ages from 3rd graders to senior adults. His greatest joy is to see the spiritual light come on as they are able to see what God says through His Word. Roger enjoys teaching through various books of the Old and New Testaments because he realizes the need to study the Old Testament to better understand the New. Page 15

Caution: Muddy Road Ahead Neighbors & Nations Emphasis Giving Thanks Final Words The Worst Choice Ever Made You ll Never Believe It - He Is Gone! If you ve had any exposure to the Bible at all, you ve probably realized there are four - not one - bur four records of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And each of them approaches the gospel from a different perspective. One of the earliest official accounts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is the gospel according to Mark. In his gospel, Mark addresses the basic question of whether Jesus was the true messiah for whom Israel had been waiting. If he was, what kind of Messianic king was He if he suffered and died? Was our Jesus a king or a savior or a servant? And if we are to be about the business of becoming more and more like Christ, what can we learn from Mark? This women s Study Group will help us discover exactly how Mark s words impact the way we must live our lives today if we are to become more and more like Christ! Lisa Ferguson was first introduced to the inductive method of Bible study in Bible Study Fellowship in the early 1980s. She then trained as a study leader and instructor for Precept Ministries. In this Study Group through this practical book, we will explore such themes as the fear of the LORD, the power of the tongue, what makes a godly woman, what it means to truly live life, receiving instruction, the sovereignty of God, honesty, marriage, family, work, economics, generosity, and friendship. But above all else, the central theme of the book is wisdom. Wisdom may be explained as seeing things from God s perspective and living skillfully in light of what He has said. We will spend this semester pursuing God together as the source, means, and goal of all wisdom. Gene Mermilliod has served as a pastor on staff at TCBC since April of He has taught various courses and age groups during that time. He has been married to his wife Gayle for 34 years. Paul writes And yet we have here a letter capable of bringing inexpressible joy and peace and freedom, as those who truly hear Paul s passionate message find themselves basking in the light of the grace of God found in Christ Jesus. Beyond proclaiming to us the way we become members of God s family, Galatians also provides guidance for how we can experience the ongoing freedom of being his children, the freedom that Christ has won for us. Even as Christianity must begin by faith in Jesus, so also must it continue in the same manner. Avoiding the dangers of slavery to either religion or irreligion, a Spirit-led trust in Jesus enables the believer to discover the joyful freedom of serving others in love. *Childcare is available for preschoolers. Upon registering for this course, you will receive an asking you to register your preschooler(s) for childcare if needed. Every woman registering for childcare will be assigned to serve the other women in this Study Group in childcare. She is most passionate about encouraging others to do the same. She has led women s studies and groups for over 15 years. Page 18

The Gospel of John - Part 1 The Gospel of John - Part 2 The Gospel of John - Part 3 The Gospel of John - Part 4 The Gospel of John - Part 5 The Gospel of John - Part 6 2 John 3 John Greeting to The Seven Churches Ephesus - The Church Without Love Smyrna - The Church That Was Persecuted Pergamum and Thyatira - The Churches With Bad Reputations Neighbors & Nations Emphasis Sardis - The Church That Fell Asleep Philadelphia - The Church That Endured Laodicea - The Church That Turned Lukewarm The apostle John wrote five books in the New Testament. TCBC s Fall sermon series will walk verse-by-verse through the letter of 1 John. To complement that series, this Study Group will dive into John s other writings - his gospel that gives an eyewitness account to the life of Jesus, his two other short epistles to the fledgling church, and the letters written to seven churches of his day in the book of Revelation. First, we will overview the gospel of John to see how Jesus is depicted as The Divine King. Then, we will examine 2 and 3 John to discover how John wrote to combat false teaching that was bombarding these congregations of believers. Finally, we will study the first 3 chapters of Revelation to find John s encouragement to seven churches in Asia and learn from their challenges, failures, expectations, and victories. Through careful examination of these churches, we will discover the cultural implications for the times in which they lived and the ways John s prophetic vision applies today while developing a better context for end-times theology and gaining a greater understanding of the task that faces the church right now. Learn from the disciple whom Jesus loved, a man who walked with Jesus and then devoted the rest of his days to all those who would trust in Christ. Dale was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania and went into the Air Force right after high school. He first heard the gospel while serving in the military in Anchorage, Alaska. When he moved to Southern California, he met his wife Joleen at a local church - they have been married for 30 years. They have 3 sons: James, Nathan and Dean and have always enjoyed leading small groups and Bible studies. David has been a member of Tri Cities Baptist Church since He has a son, Van, who is 20 years old. David grew up in the Tri-Cities area. He has been a Bible teacher for the past 15 years. He is passionate about teaching the Bible in a way that helps others increase their precision and depth of knowledge of the Scriptures. He graduated engineering school and joined Eastman Chemical in He also graduated from Trinity Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies. Page 19
