PRELUDE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS MOMENT FOR MISSION RINGING OF THE CHIMES CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP Stewardship video presentation INTROIT (Psalm 19) Your Law, O Lord, Is Perfect Keith Landis, 1987 *CALL TO WORSHIP (inspired by Mark 12:30-31) One: We are called to love the Lord our God All: We are called to love with all our heart and soul One: We are called to love the Lord our God All: We are called to love with all our mind and strength One: We are called to love the Lord our God All: And we are called to love our neighbor as ourselves. Let us worship our loving God! *HYMN #839 Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine! F. Jane Crosby, 1873 *CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER One: Holy God, You gave us guidance. In all of history Your guidance has been there: What You seek of us is desire, love, compassion, hope.
All: Forgive us when our lives are full of judgments and rules and bereft of compassion and love. One: Show us, gently, humbly, lightly, softly, how to follow, how to be guided into obedience, and teach us acceptance of Your love, Your forgiveness and Your compassion. Amen. *WORDS OF AFFIRMATION (responsively) One: We thank you, God, for coming to us as a neighbor, a stranger, an immigrant, binding our wounds and carrying us to safety, so that we might love you with all our heart, soul, and mind. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, cleansed and renewed to work harder and love our neighbor even stronger. Alleluia! Amen. *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE #581 CALL FOR OFFERING Gloria Patri OFFERTORY #762 When the Poor Ones (Cuando el pobre) Steve Yeager *DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION PASSING OF THE PEACE *HYMN #519 vs1 PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION You are My Strength When I am Weak FIRST SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 146 This is the word of the Lord! Thanks be to God! ANTHEM Come to the Table Paul Huh, 2007 SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 12:28-34 Holy Spirit-filled words! Thanks be to God! SERMON Building the Kingdom of God Rev. Dr Cindy Alloway
*HYMN #2283 For All the Saints Who ve Shown Your Love John Bell,1996 SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION INVITATION TO THE TABLE One: This is the Lord s table; our Savior invites those who trust in him to share the feast which he has prepared. Christ says: Come all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING (responsively) One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give our thanks and praise. One: It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise, O Lord our God, creator and ruler of the universe. In your wisdom, you made all things and sustain them by your power. You formed us in your image, setting us in this world to love and to serve you by helping create a peaceable kingdom here on earth for your whole creation. All: When we rebelled against you, refusing to trust and obey you, you did not reject us, but still claimed us as your own. You sent prophets to call us back to your way. One: In the fullness of time, out of your great love for the world, you sent your only Son to be one of us, to redeem us and heal our brokenness. Therefore, we praise you, joining our voices with choirs of angels, and with all the faithful of every time and place, who sing to the glory of your name: All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! One: You are holy, O God of majesty, and blessed is Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. In Jesus, your Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. He proclaimed the good news of your kingdom to the poor and needy. In
remembrance of your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Great is the mystery of faith: All: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. One: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, that we may be one with all who share this feast, united in ministry in every place. As this bread is Christ s body for us, send us out to be the body of Christ in the world. Amen WORDS OF INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTION OF THE ELEMENTS HYMN #527 Eat This Bread Jacques Berthier, 1984 (Sing as the elements are passed. Please hold the bread until all are served so we may eat together as a church family (gluten free wafers are in the center of the plates). All the cups are filled with grape juice. You may drink the cup when it is passed symbolizing your individual relationship with our loving God.) COMMUNION PRAYER One: Loving Living God, in whom there is no shadow or change, we thank you for communicating to us your grace through this holy meal that we have received. Now we thank you for the gift of life eternal, and for all who have served you well, and now rest from their labors. All: We thank you for all the saints, those dear souls most precious to us. Today we give thanks for those who during the last twelve months have died and entered glory. Nicholas St. Juste Virginia Rylett Frank Lloyd Helen MacKenzie Betty Thornton Kathleen Ingram Dr. Ted McCarthy Lenore Foster
One: Almighty God, be with us as we are mindful of all those precious souls who have gone on ahead of us. Teach us to follow their example of faith to the best of our ability: All: to feed the poor in body or spirit, to support and comfort the mourners and the repentant, to encourage the meek and stand with them in crises, to affirm those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, to cherish and learn from the merciful and humble, and to stand with the peacemakers. One: Let us clearly recognize what it means to be called to build up the kingdom of God, and to trust you are with us in life and death. All: May we answer your call to share the healing and wholeness of Christ Jesus our Savior who taught us to pray saying (The Lord s prayer). Amen.
