1 Lytle United Methodist Church P.O. Box 608 Lytle, Texas (830) Lytleumc.com Don t forget the Hanging of the Greens service Saturday, Dec.5 at 7PM. NOVEMBER 2015 Food Pantry Food Fair Tuesday, November 9 To help those in need to have a thankful thanksgiving, our church is doing our 2 nd annual Food Fair. On Monday, November 9, a truck from the San Antonio Food Bank will be in our church parking lot around 2 PM with 11 pallets of food. We won t know what the pallets contain until we get them, and we will have to separate them and bag them in preparation for handing out the food from 5 to 7 PM. We could use lots of help between 2 and 5 PM to bag the food, and from 5 to 7 PM to hand out the food. Please come and help! New and Revised Lytle Area Mission Project Saturday, November 14 It s not just for youth anymore, and it s not just home construction anymore. It will include yard work projects, painting projects, providing food for the Saturday night dinner, providing snacks/refreshments during the day, home improvement projects, etc. In other words, L.A.M.P is for everyone! We will meet in the fellowship hall at 7:30 AM for breakfast tacos and a time of prayer, then head off to various worksites. We will complete the day with a dinner at the church at 6 PM. God commands us to love our neighbors, and to witness to the Good News through our words and our actions. See you Saturday, November 14. New Children s Sunday School Program Starting Sunday, November 29 with the Christmas Season This new Sunday school program will be a VBS Style program where the children rotate through three stations in groups that are age inclusive (Kinder through 5 th grade) just like in our summer VBS program. The first station will be opening worship and music, featuring DVD based songs. Then the children will move to the Bible Station where they will be In the story. Finally they will move to the third station for prayer, games and/or crafts. This program is put together by the same church supply company that we have used for both VBS and our previous Sunday school program, so we are confident that it is Bible centered and high quality. Prior to November 29 we will be practicing this new style of Sunday school, so we hope your kids will be here to help guide us in getting it ready for the big November 29 th opening! Be Here to Experience the Fun: Sunday, November 29! Bring Your Dish Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser The youth Group will be hosting a Bring Your Dish Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser on November 19, from 4p.m. 7p.m. The money raised will go toward the 2016 Summer Mission Trip. Plates will consist of spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, garlic roll, and tea. For those who want to pick up dinner for their family and reheat at a later time, you may also opt to bring your own casserole dish and buy the spaghetti and meat sauce by the quart. We will sell the salad by the quart as well. Desserts will be for sale at that time too. Dinner will be served in the Fellowship Hall. You may choose to eat it there or take it to go. The youth will begin selling tickets starting November 8, For more information, talk to Beverly Miller, or Diana Jackson.

3 Congratulations to Amber and Andre Alexander on the baptism of their daughter, Elena, on November 1. Congratulations to grandparents Debbie and Jim Pruett as well. All Saints Day November 8 This Sunday, November 8, we will be celebrating the lives of church members, and other loved ones of our church family, who have died during the past year. During our annual All Saints Day, roses will be brought forward as a memorial. Please contact Rev. Scott Martin if you would like to participate in this special ceremony. A Great Church Picnic! Sunday, October 11 This year s Annual Church Picnic was great fun. We had delicious food and good conversation. Some folks played board games, others tossed washers, still others watched the Dallas Cowboys game, and some brave youth and children went swimming. It was a beautiful afternoon and we all enjoyed God s beautiful sunset. Thank you Brad and Nan Boyd for again hosting this fun annual event. Camino Real Church Gathering and Charge Conference Sunday, November 15, 4 to 6 PM Our church is part of the Camino Real Cluster Group, which runs from Lytle down to Laredo, and on Sunday, November 15, we are getting together at Pearsall UMC for a church gathering and celebration. This will fulfill our charge conference requirements, but that will be a small part of the gathering. We are going to worship together, hear a little bit about each church and its community, and share a time of fellowship with a finger foods meal. If you would like to commute with us, meet at the church at 2:45 PM, or simply meet us at Pearsall UMC (507 E San Antonio St, Pearsall, TX 78061, (830) ) at 4 PM. Project Hope: Reaching Out with Love Lytle U.M.C. will again take part in Project Hope this Christmas season. Project Hope brings the light of hope to the children of the neediest families in our area by bringing them Christmas presents and the Good News of Jesus Christ. The children who the church will be helping will either be identified through the Angel Tree, a project of Prison Fellowship Ministry, or they will be identified as needy through the local school system. The Project Hope Angel Tree will be set up in the church parlor starting Sunday, November 22. Please take an angel and be an angel. Emmaus News: Community Gathering this Friday!!!! The next Kononia sponsored walk is men's Emmaus walk #1838 at Mt Wesley April 28 May 1, Jim Rhoades from our church will be the lay director for this walk. The first team meeting for this men s walk will be January 9. If you re interested on serving on the team, your application needs to be in Jim s hand before this Friday, November 13. If you re interested in serving on the team for the woman s walk in the fall of 2016, it s not too early to apply. In other Emmaus news, the next Koinonia gathering will be at New Fountain UMC on November 13th. For information about Walk to Emmaus, a very special Christian retreat, call the church office, or see the Emmaus bulletin board.
4 Food Pantry Ministry The two Food Pantry days in October saw lots of families helped. Our workers have been terrific, but we can always use more. Just come at 5:30 PM to help prepare for the 6 to 7 PM rush on the first and third Mondays in November (November 2 and 16). We will again be handing out canned goods, as well as frozen meats and fresh fruits and vegetables. Thank you for supporting the Methodist Food Pantry. We are also holding our 2 nd annual Food Fair. On Monday, November 9, a truck from the San Antonio Food Bank will be in our church parking lot around 2 PM with 11 pallets of food.
