GOSPEL OF SAINT LUKE Introduction
WELCOME TO SAINT MARGARET! Thank you, Father Wallace! Mr. Chuck for his selfless assistance in the hall and Boris Volbeda for live streaming Liliane Maasri for the list Welcome to parishioners from Saint Margaret, Saint Ephrem, and Saint Peter Welcome to CSUSM Catholic Club and the North County Young Adult Catholic group Welcome, everyone.
PRAYER TO OUR LORD JESUS Lord Jesus, let me know myself and know Thee, And desire nothing save only Thee. Let me hate myself and love Thee. Let me do everything for the sake of Thee. Let me humble myself and exalt Thee. Let me think nothing except Thee. Let me die to myself and live in Thee. Let me accept whatever happens as from Thee. Let me banish self and follow Thee, And ever desire to follow Thee. Let me fly from myself and take refuge in Thee, That I may deserve to be defended by Thee. Let me fear for myself, let me fear Thee, And let me be among those who are chosen by Thee. Let me distrust myself and put my trust in Thee. Let me be willing to obey for the sake of Thee. Let me cling to nothing save only to Thee, And let me be poor because of Thee. Look upon me, that I may love Thee. Call me that I may see Thee, And for ever enjoy Thee. Amen.
ON THE STUDY OF SCRIPTURE "Lord who can grasp all the wealth of just one of your words? What we understand is much less than we leave behind; like thirsty people who drink from a fountain. For your word, Lord, has many shades of meaning just as those who study it have many different points of view. The Lord has colored his word with many hues so that each person who studies it can see in it what he loves. He has hidden many treasures in his word so that each of us is enriched as we meditate on it. Saint Ephrem, Doctor of the Church

WHY STUDY SCRIPTURE CCC 104 In Sacred Scripture, the Church constantly finds her nourishment and her strength, for she welcomes it not as a human word, "but as what it really is, the word of God". "In the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children, and talks with them." CCC 133 The Church "forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful... to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ. Dei Verbum. Library of Controversy The Clifton Tracts, by the Brotherhood of St. Vincent of Paul, Volume 1, How do we know what the Bible means, published about 1854 in New York, by P.J. Kenedy, Excelsior Catholic Publishing House, The acknowledgment of the Church is the sole infallible interpreter of Scripture, is the very fundamental principle of Catholicism. Catholics, study the Scripture to grow in holiness;
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOMILY AND A BIBLE STUDY Sacrosanctum Concilium 52. By means of the homily the mysteries of the faith and the guiding principles of the Christian life are expounded from the sacred text, during the course of the liturgical year; the homily, therefore, is to be highly esteemed as part of the liturgy itself. In general, a homily is a scripturally-based reflection that provides food for thought about the challenges of living as a Catholic in today s busy and hectic world. Through the Sunday homily, the members of the community of faith gathered at the Eucharist learn how they might accept Sacred Scripture and Church teaching as central to their daily lives and, then, live a distinctively Christian and Catholic way of life. Father M. Jacobs, O.S.A. (Order of Saint Augustine), Ph.D.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOMILY AND A BIBLE STUDY In contrast, a Bible Study is: 1. A Study! That is a class, involving a lecture and note-taking. It requires the active participation of the speaker and the listeners. 2. Seeks to understand the Text in its original context, and does not seek to systematically apply this text to the lives of the listeners. 3. Seeks to clarify difficulty, and answer objections. So what is our purpose to study scripture? Our purpose to study scripture is to know Jesus Christ, and love him, and those two things will compel us to change, and grow in holiness.
WHY THE GOSPEL OF SAINT LUKE 1. Gospel of Joy 2. Deceptively Simple 3. It is the Gospel before the Acts (written by Saint Luke) 4. The Gospel as an Exodus 5. The Gospel of Women

REVELATION 3: "And to the angel of the church in La-odice'a write: `The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. 15 "`I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.
17 18 MATTHEW 16:17-19 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar- Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
MATTHEW 19: And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
PROLOGUE: LUKE 1:1-4 Luke 1 1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things which have been accomplished among us, 2 just as they were delivered to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent The-oph'ilus, 4 that you may know the truth concerning the things of which you have been informed.
PURIFICATION IN THE TEMPLE LUKE 2: And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."
