1 PRAYING THE WAY October 2018 World: Pray for the troubled areas of the world and those who are suffering in whatever way, for those who are grieving, for those who are seeking a place of safety amidst all the areas of war, disaster and poverty; for all our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted for their faith. Pray that there will be good rains in areas of the world where there has been famine, and that crops will thrive and provide enough food for the people s needs. Pray against the destructive forces in our world. Our country: Pray for all the continued discussions over Brexit that all those involved both here and in Europe will come to an agreement that will be for the ways of common good for all. Pray that all the politicians will have eyes to see and ears to hear what is best regardless of their own personal opinions and agendas. Pray for all who work so hard and faithfully in our NHS service that God will bless them and provide for all the needs of the organisation, for wisdom for those who manage it so that it will be able to continue in the spirit for which it was created 70 years ago, caring for all from the cradle to the grave. Diocese: Pray for the visit to our diocese by Archbishop Justin Welby on October, that it will be successful and a time of blessing. For any Light Parties being held in the diocese that they may show the light and love of Jesus as an alternative to the secular world s view of Halloween.. BROMLEY AND BEXLEY ARCHDEACONRY Beckenham Deanery Beckenham Christ Church Give thanks for: Luke s ordination as deacon, for those involved in our community lunch and toddler group. Pray for: the Building to Bless project and the PCC as decisions are taken; that those who attend our community lunch and toddler group may feel a real sense of God s presence. Beckenham Holy Trinity Pray for: preparations for the YWAM team visit this month; wisdom in implementing the PCC fiveyear plan, especially our desire to become a church of prayer; provision for and blessing of Living Well as we continue to support the most vulnerable in our community. Beckenham St James and St Michael with St Augustine Pray for: the future ministry of St Michael s, now open after months of extensive works; new children starting at St James Preschool. Beckenham St Paul Pray for: the theology course we are running this term; for our youth and children s work that our new website will be an effective tool in reaching our parish. Penge St John Pray for: someone to lead our youth work; someone to lead our Sunday School team; the helpers and leaders of our Alpha course and those who will be attending. Shortlands Give thanks: for those who have come forward to be considered as our potential new incumbent.

2 Pray for: the interview process and all involved that God will be in the process, guiding the right candidate to our church. Bromley Deanery Pray for: the Bromley Deanery Youth Network whose next event is on the 21 October. Bickley Pray for: our joint PCC Away Day with The Annunciation Chislehurst on 13 October. Bromley St John the Evangelist Pray for: our Harvest Supper on 6 October, our Harvest Festival Family Service on 7 October, the 4 O clock Church on the 14 and 28 October. Chislehurst Christ Church Pray for: our Men s Breakfast on 13 October, where the speakers will be Peter Holloway, CEO of the Prison Fellowship and Robin Eldridge, Governor of HMP Downview and of HMP Sutton Park. Chislehurst St Nicholas Pray that: the recommendations of our Refresh Team who report back this autumn, will help us in caring for the spiritual needs of our children and the growth of our work with teenagers. Chislehurst The Annunciation Pray for: Adult Baptism and Confirmation with Bishop Norman Banks on 7 October, for the Dedication Festival Evensong on 28 October where our preacher will be Bishop Simon, Bishop of Tonbridge. Erith Deanery Pray for: our Deanery Seminar on 6 October at St Augustine Belvedere on the subject Culture of Invitation at YOUR church. Barnehurst Pray for: the baptism in our church on 7 October, the family and godparents; our Harvest Supper on 14 October in support of Bexley Women s Aid; generosity in providing welcome packs for the women; families forced to take refuge in safe houses. Belvedere All Saints Pray for: Anthea, our former ordinand, newly ordained as deacon, as she begins her ministry at St Mary s Greenhithe; for the launch of The Friends of All Saints Belvedere on 20 October, the 165 th anniversary of the opening of the original building; our All Soul s Memorial Service on 27 October for those bereaved over the last three years; the parish and church members as we go into vacancy; Rev Jane Edwards as she prepares to retire. Bexleyheath Christ Church Pray for: our associate vicar, Rev Sue Twynam, who leaves us on 7 October, giving thanks for her ministry with us; Harvest Supper and Talent show on 13 October; for parish lunch on 25 October; our outreach to the elderly and lonely; preparations for our Flower Festival commemorating World War 1. Bexleyheath St Peter Pray for: our Harvest Weekend; new attendees and a good response to our harvest appeal for the Foodbank and Bexley Women s Aid. Slade Green Pray for: our new church school, St Paul s Slade Green Primary; Jim, our curate, following his priesting as Michaelmas; our dementia café as it continues to develop. Welling

3 Pray for: our whole church to be changed as we are challenged by what it means to be Jesus- Shaped People ; the right leaders for our youth groups, Dubsters and 3Dub. Orpington Deanery Cray St Barnabas Pray for: Thursday Club; preparations for Quiz Night and Pamper Night; families attending Messy Church and the church members supporting them; those working to improve the church heating system; children and families during half term and teachers and support staff. Orpington All Saints Give thanks: for our ministry to children and young people, the elderly and infirm and to our town. Pray for: nourishment and blessing as we share worship; growth in prayerfulness, theological insight and numbers; that we be a powerhouse of prayer for the surrounding area; those in need and experiencing spiritual deprivation, that the Spirit will help them overcome barriers to their relationship with God. Sidcup Deanery Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing in the churches in Sidcup Deanery and in the communities that they serve. Bexley Team Ministry Pray for: Rev Ren Harding, that her sabbatical may be a time of spiritual renewal and refreshment, and for our parishes as we move forward together as part of the Bexley Team ministry; our autumn concert on 13 October. Sidcup Christ Church Pray for: the safe and speedy completion of our West Wing annexe; that God will lead us to reach out beyond the current horizons of our church life. St John Sidcup with All Saints Footscray Pray for: our clergy and our parishes in our new united benefice; the success of our west end development plans to enable us to be more involved in our community. ROCHESTER ARCHDEACONRY Cobham Deanery Pray for: The Ven Andrew Wooding Jones and his wife Margaret, as they prepare for Andrew s new role as Archdeacon of Rochester; our Deanery Synod meeting in October and plans to be made. Ash with Ridley Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing in the church and the community they serve. Cobham with Luddesdowne and Dode Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing in the church and the community they serve. Fawkham and Hartley

4 Pray for: our local schools coming into Church for their Harvest services and also our Harvest Service for the Wellfield community; work supporting Mission Links and Charities and how we develop this further; our PCC with planning this; our Charity Golf Day and Church Centre Quiz Night. Istead Rise Pray for: our all age harvest service this month that all those attending would be blessed in celebrating God s abundant provision for us; Kidz Club meeting on Fridays in term time, that stronger links would be built with parents and that the children would grow in their understanding of Jesus; opportunities for us to share the light and life of the gospel as an alternative to Halloween activities at the end of the month. Longfield Pray for: those who administer the hiring or our church hall and for the groups who use it for their meetings; the Longfield and New Barn Civil parish council. Meopham with Nurstead Give thanks: for the reminder of his goodness to us, which we celebrate at this time of Harvest. Pray for: those parts of the world suffering from war, unrest and natural disaster, that they might soon know God s provision in support, encouragement, food, medical aid and shelter; the preparations all our activities and worship in the run up to Remembrance Sunday in this Centenary Year; our work with schools, uniformed organisations and all who are remembering loved ones who have served in wars or conflicts and for those who continue to do so. Rural North West Kent Group Ministry Pray for: Rev Helen Reeves as she prepares to move to the RNWK Group and especially for the people of Ash and Ridley in vacancy; our special service Chorus of Praise, that many will come. Give thanks: for all of the hard work of our local choirs and for the gift of music within our Group. Pray for: Group Messy Church and visiting leader this month; our continued developments with the possibility of a Group Youth Worker; for the schools on half term break. Southfleet Give thanks: for our young people; for those who are seeking to know more about their faith and exploring confirmation; for the enthusiasm and good leadership of Josh. Pray for: the new outreach T@2 which will happen on 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the month; Sedley s C.E.P. and Bean schools, the children and the staff who teach, support and encourage them. Dartford Deanery Give thanks: for the generous responses to the Harvest gifts and pray that, as many will be given to the local Foodbanks that those receiving them will be blessed and pray also that their circumstances will change. Pray for: those who are finding this time difficult and that they will be surround by those who can show the love and light of Jesus to them; all who work in the NHS in our area especially all at Darent Valley Hospital. Crockenhill Give thanks: for our Harvest celebrations and continue to pray for the Community Café and all events planned for our church room. Darent Valley Benefice Give thanks: for our Flower festival and Harvest celebrations. Pray for: our Family Praise Service and for the work with our children. Dartford Christ Church

5 Pray for: all the plans and preparations for events during the autumn and for our new curate that she will settle in quickly and a blessing on her ministry. Dartford Holy Trinity Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing in our church and community. Dartford St Alban and Dartford St Edmund Pray for: our outreach to the new houses and families in the area; the way forward for the Memory Café and give thanks for the ministry of John and a blessing on him and family as he has moved to Cornwall Stone Pray for: the Mary s Child project and for the families it serves. Swanley St Mary the Virgin Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing here. Swanley St Paul and Hextable St Peter Give thanks: for Eleanor and Tom our new Pastoral Apprentices and pray that the Lord will guide and lead them as they seek to do his work here. Pray for: the Alpha course planned and for volunteers to step forward to fill many roles within our church that are vacant, that they will answer God s calling; the next phase of the building of our Annexe; finance and for the next development; leaders for our Kidz Klub; the Amazing Women conference in October that many will attend and be a blessing. Wilmington Pray for: the Churchwardens, PCC and Lay Ministers as we enter a period of interregnum, pray for all the work needed to be done on the Parish Profile that it will go smoothly and that the Holy Spirit will go ahead and prepare the way for the right person to answer the call to be our new Vicar; our Autumn Holiday at Home at the end of October. Gillingham Deanery As we approach the Harvest season let us keep in mind the harvest and the farmers, the seasonal workers and those who live in rural areas and may have transport worries to more populated areas. Pray for: those people who struggle with day-to-day activities or general social environments - give grace and strength to all those who care for people in body and mind; new parents and especially new parents with delicate babies -give them light and hope and we give thanks and praise for new life. Bring calm to the world issues and disruption across nations and help us all to work to peaceful solutions to the world. As Christmas rapidly approaches our prayers are with those who find it a financial burden. Pray that people s worries are eased and we all recognise God s love and his gift of Jesus freely given. Gillingham St Barnabas Pray for: the older members of our church and community especially those who are lonely and isolated; the homeless and vulnerable who use the church as a safe and welcome haven. Rainham St Margaret Give thanks: for the generous grant to enable a project to tackle knife crime across Medway to come together with partners to reduce this type of crime and to work with young people who are at risk of carrying a knife or committing a crime. Pray for: the success of this project.

6 Gravesend Deanery Chalk Pray for: our congregation and parish that God may lead us to reach out to our community; Nigel in his role as Area Dean. Gravesham Street Pastors Give thanks: for the ministry of the School Pastors in the new school term. Pray for: all those with whom the Street Pastors make contact with on Friday and Saturday nights Gravesend St George s School Give thanks: for the new academic year and for students joining us, remembering those who have left for the next steps in their education. Gravesend Holy Family Pray for: all that is planned in October; our church groups, that they may grow and flourish. Gravesend St Aidan Give thanks: for the arrival of Rev Michael Payne, Amy and family as they joined us in September; for God s blessing on his ministry amongst us. Gravesend St George Pray for: our congregation and parish and for all they have planned for October. Gravesend St Mary Pray for: our ministry to children, that they may come to know of God s love Greenhithe Give thanks: for the ministry of Sister Penny. Pray for: everything we do as a church will be Spirit led and glorify God. Ifield Pray for: renewed CAP initiative and for all whom God is calling to run this project. Milton Christ Church Pray for: our church groups, that we may grow in worship and fellowship; the ministry team during the interregnum. Milton St Peter and St Paul Pray for: our new project, Who let the Dads out Northfleet and Rosherville Pray for: God s guidance for our church heating project, that the work will soon be started; the final plans for Armistice Weekend 10 and 11 November; our congregation and community as we seek to reach out to Rosherville. Northfleet Huggens College Pray for: Collegians and Trustees as we give thanks for our community; those suffering in body mind and spirit. Perry Street Pray for: our congregation and parish and for all they have planned for October. Shorne Pray for: our congregation and parish and for all that is planned in October. Swanscombe Pray for: people moving into the new estates around us; all the developments in our area. Rochester Deanery

7 Pray for: Christmas Unwrapped event at KICC Buckmore Park, with J.John on Sunday 9 December from 6pm-8pm, that this event would be well supported and many would respond to the message of the Gospel. Borstal Give thanks: for our Messy Church, as it continues to grow and flourish, and especially for the success of our Messy Church Walk and BBQ in August, which many attended; John and Janet as they prepare to move away from Borstal after many years of faithful service at St Matthew s. Chatham St Philip and St James Pray for: the success of our first Church Weekend Away at Home (5-7 October) as church members and friends gather for teaching from Adrian Chatfield, food and fun times, building family together. Rochester St Justus Pray for: Café Plus 2, our newest community venue in Warren Wood and for our Alpha course running this Autumn, that deepening relationships may bear fruit in people coming to faith. Strood Deanery Pray for: God s blessing on all that He is doing in the Deanery and in the communities the parishes serve. Strood St Francis Pray for: the newly launched Place of Welcome which is open very Tuesday that it will be a place of welcome to offer a friendly place for those who are lonely, that those who come will find friendship and fellowship; our curate Jessica Smith, recently ordained. TONBRIDGE ARCHDEACONRY Pray for: all Harvest Festival services and Harvest Suppers. Malling Deanery Aylesford Give thanks: for all the good things God gives us. Pray for: all who go to the foodbank, which our church and congregation supports. We will be sending our harvest collection to many people in need. Barming Pray for: our Confirmation candidates; Barming primary school as we look to recruit new staff; those completing their hearing and speaking God s word assessment; the new men s hour group. Snodland with Lower Birling Pray for: us as we enter an interregnum and for every blessing upon Jane and Hugh Broadbent as they retire. Paddock Wood Deanery Give thanks: for all our ministers, lay and ordained. Pray for: Hospice in the Weald and Pembury NHS Hospital and their Chaplains; our Rural Dean, Canon Bryan Knapp; Rev Nick Harvey at St Mary s Hadlow; for all the care homes on our parishes; for the carers and residents.

8 Sevenoaks Deanery Brasted Pray for: our Harvest Festival, 7 October, followed at 12 noon by a Blessing of Pets. Kippington St Mary Pray for: our Vicar on 3 October as he speaks at the assembly at Lady Boswell School; the Kippington Lunch Club, a social gathering that fulfils a pastoral need amongst senior members of our community; our third parish weekend away, 5-7 October at The Oasts, that this may be a means by which Christ continues to build his church; for Rev Tim Stillwell, who will be speaking on the theme of prayer. Give thanks: as we celebrate Harvest on 14 October, let us be grateful for all we have and pray that we will be generous towards the needs of the Diocese of Mpwapwa, Tanzania, with whom Rochester is linked, as well as being generous towards our local food bank. Pray for: the ecumenical services at St Luke s on 21 October on the theme of healing. As Christ commissioned his disciples to heal so may we see his healing power released afresh among us; the preparations for the annual service of remembrance on 4 November that this may meet a definite need; our parish during this difficult time of uncertainty; our Sevenoaks Festival service on 24 October and for the festival events taking place at St Luke s Knockholt with Halstead Pray for: blessings as we go into the new Autumn church activities. Sevenoaks St Luke Pray for: Rev Anne Bourne and the PCC as they lead us during the continuing suspension of our interregnum; our Harvest Service on 7 October and for Hugo, who will be baptised today; our Patronal festival on 21 October and for our choir as they lead us in the service. Weald Pray for: Harvest Supper on 6 October and Harvest Festival on 7 October; Samara s Aid collection of clothing for Syria, 9-11 October; continued development of our links with St Francis Strood. Shoreham Deanery Give thanks: for all God s blessing in our parishes. Pray for: all who minister both ordained and lay; all our contact with children and young people in our parishes. Ightham Pray for: the Christianity Explored course recently begun, that it will be meaningful to those who attend. Kemsing with Woodlands Pray for: progress on our need for a church hall. Tonbridge Deanery Pray for: our Archdeacon, The Ven Julie Conalty Chiddingstone with Chiddingstone Causeway Pray for: guidance for the future; the staff and children of the village school. Crockham Hill

Penshurst and Fordcombe Pray for: our Tuesday morning drop-ins at the church hall am. Tonbridge St Peter and St Paul Pray for: more volunteers to come forward to help our growing children s work; Wendy, recently ordained as priest and Judi, recently as deacon. Tonbridge St Stephen Pray for: St Stephen s Preachers club to encourage new preachers. Tunbridge Wells Deanery Bennett Memorial School Pray for: all staff and students Burrswood Pray for: God s blessing on our programme of events that they may equip and impact on those who attend; HOPE service on the afternoon 7 October for those with Dementia and their carers and then on 1st Sunday of each month, that it will be a blessing. Tunbridge Wells King Charles the Martyr Pray for: those in our church family confirmed recently and for those children receiving their first communion in early October. Tunbridge Wells St James and St Barnabas Pray for: Harvest, for enthusiasm and motivation to give to our new mission link, the church and community mobilisation Project (CCMP) in the Kondoa district of Tanzania.
