Line quality is the smoothness, evenness, color, and thickness of the pencil line. 3 Correct spacing between letters, words, and sentences makes your writing easy to read. Study the spacing examples below. Letter Spacing This example shows good spacing between letters. 4 Basic Strokes All letters are made from the basic strokes. If you make the basic strokes correctly, your writing will be legible. Study the basic strokes below. As you write them, think of letters that contain each stroke. Slant Strokes Practice writing the slant strokes. Be sure your book is in the correct position for cursive writing. 11 Church History: 1500 A.D. to 1800 A.D. Write the sentences. Check your writing. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, there was a renewal in Christianity in spite of religious controversy and war. The Protestant Reformation occurred when many Christians protested against and separated from the Church of Rome. Write the underlined words. Those who did not separate from the Church of Rome became known as Roman Catholics. The Council of Trent worked to reform the Catholic Church by widening its teachings and strengthening its discipline. As a result, many who had converted to Protestantism came back to the Catholic faith.
