By: Pastor Roderick J. Glatt Another year has passed and gone on Mount Gilead was a year full of challenges. We experienced weddings, deaths, successes, failures, good times and bad times. After all, the diamonds in the rough can say: we made it. God has been and yet is good to us! 2009 was a year met with economic challenges. Many of our congregants came face-to-face with their faith. How do I support my family without a job? Many of our members were the victims of downsizing jobs. Many of our members had to find God s provision to pay for mortgages, food etc. But God never leaves us, nor forsakes us. God made a way out of no way. After all, the diamonds in the rough can say: we made it was a year of marriages. A number of couples in our congregation enjoyed their wedding ceremony in the sanctuary of Mount Gilead. What God hath joined together let no man separate. On the other hand, a number of saints went on to be married with the Lord. We mourned the passing of a deacon (William E. Davis) and a former First Lady (Sis. Susie Corder) along with numerous lay members. God is still good. He alone can give. He alone can take away. His Name alone is blessed! But, what about the successes, failures, good times and bad times within our ranks. Actually, is there any congregation of believers in Christ who are exempt from the realities of life. Is there a congregation that you know of who doesn t experience success, failure, good times and bad times? This has come as no strange reality for me. Sometimes Mount Gilead is up and then sometimes Mount Gilead is down. But all the time, Mount Gilead is. I m thanking God right now for the Mount Gilead that is. Yes, we ve had hard times, but God didn t turn his back on us, He provided. Yes, we ve seen members come and go, but God is still among our ranks. We ve baptized new believers. We ve received into our fellowship a number of families, children, youth, preachers and the like. Shouldn t this be? We walk by faith, not by sight. Sometimes things don t look so well, but our faith carries us through the storms. Resolved, we have experienced challenges, but they have only been present to shape us and make us believe in our God even more! How shall we then march forward in 2010? First, let us resolve to increase our faith. Come to worship regularly. Don t forsake the assembling of ourselves together (Hebrews 10:24-25). Next, let us resolve to become more acquainted with the Word of God (2 Tim. 2:15). The more you know about Christ, His Sovereign Grace and love for His people, the more you are strengthen in your weaknesses to endure the hardness of life and go forward. Third, let us resolve to INVITE our inactive members to return to an active status within our ranks. Then, let s INVITE our family members who aren t in church, to come and visit us. INVITE, INVITE, INVITE! Don t sit on your blessing, share it with someone. Finally, let us resolve to give. Give some time back to ministry. Give some money (tithe and offerings) back to ministry. Give of yourself by ministering to others. Let s do it Mount Gilead! Y Yours in HIS service, Elder Roderick J. Glatt, Pastor We are REAL PEOPLE, With REAL PROBLEMS, Serving a REAL God with REAL SOLUTIONS!

First Lady of Mount Gilead Speaks Hope in 2010 By: Sister Angela Glatt We as Christian believers all have hope and this hope was given to us from God and is centered in Jesus Christ. It is a living attitude born of the Holy Spirit that empowers us to live righteously in this evil world. Hope is a firm assurance that enables the child of God to confidently face the sin around him. It is the expectation that Jesus Christ will keep all of his promises. As we enter a new decade, we must not look back at failed promises and disappointments that man can create but look to the future. Put all of your hope in Jesus Christ because HE is our hope! Happy New Year Mt Gilead! Y Mary Dismukes Missions Ministry By: Sis. Clara Owens It is more blessed to give than receive. It is a time to go and a time to give. The Mary Dismukes Mission Ministry was on the go. Our Ministry members visited with our own Mother Florence Moore, Sis. Tommie Pitts, and Sis. Eleanor McSpadden. What a fellowship we had and blessings flowed from and to all in attendance. We visited Bordeaux Hospital and Knowles Assisted Living Homes as well as the Mental Health Institute. We visited two different wards, the older friends and younger patients. Games were played and Christmas gifts were given to each. They seemed to be excited and enjoyed themselves. We were just as blessed as they were. Afterwards, we treated ourselves to brunch. We invite you to come and join us! We are on a mission to be of service to those in need. If we can help somebody as we pass along, then our living shall not be in vain. To God be all the Glory! Y Usher s Ministry By: Sis. Kahnitha McAdoo God is truly awesome. He continues to bless all our ministries of our Church family. That is great news. We like to think of Mt. Gilead as a family and believe that God is pleased with our service. Truly it is wonderful to be part of the family of God who is made up of believers from many walks of life. The Ushers Ministry has been blessed with another servant and door keeper in the house of God. Our Ministry welcomes Bro. Ben Vaughn, Jr. to our flock. He is the son of Sis. Mary Ann Vaughn. 2 We wish each of you a wonderful New Year! God Bless! Y Tutorial Ministry By: Sis. LaTishia Jordon The tutorial ministry is up and running. The program is open to any student who needs assistance with school work or who needs time to complete homework in study hall. Tutoring will be held each Wednesday evening from 5:45 6:45pm. If you would like to sign up for tutoring or if you are interested in working as a tutor please call LaTishia Jordan at ext.100 or her at latishia@micheauxslc.com Y The Pulse of Heart 2 Heart By: Sis. Vietta Corley, Director We the Heart2Heart Staff & Director praise the Lord Jesus Christ for another year of learning, loving & fun. In 2009, the Lord allowed the children, youth & staff to come together where we learned The Will & The Ways of God as we dealt with everyday trials. We were also able to go on our quarterly outings and in-house fun nights, such as Laser Quest, CiCi s Pizza, Bowling, Movie Nights, Game Nights, & a wonderful Christmas gathering where some of our church family came together and pitched in to make it a Spirit filled night. On that night we had so many different kinds of foods served and gifts to give to the children and youth. We also had about twenty pairs of socks left that we gave to the Sock it to me drive. We are looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for us in Our attendance continues to stay between 40 to 60 kids each week. I personally thank God for our Pastor s vision that the Lord has given him. If you are or have a child or youth in grades 12th down, you are welcome to come and join us weekly. Always remember, no matter what you may have been through or are going through, Satan wants you to believe that you can t make it. But God is here to let you know it ain t over until God says it s over! It s All About Him Jesus Y

Seniors Ministry a golden MoMEnt a YEar of CHangE By: Elder Ronald Little The Senior Ministry of Mount Gilead gives Praise to our Sovereign God for seeing us through the year We pray that we can find better ways to serve Him and our church family in By the Grace of God, we will. This is the challenge we have set for ourselves for the coming year, if God be pleased. We continue to invite all Senior s and other s that can t make the Wednesday Night Bible Study to come to Bible Studies on Tuesday at 12:00 noon. Come and feed the spiritual man the word of God. We have awesome fellowship as well as activities, outings, and informational speakers. In 2009, we covered several new and spirit filled topics out of Working the Gray Zone (Ministry for Older Adults ) with the Holy Bible. We covered such topics as: Journey through Time Living in the Present, The Eagle, The Exalted Horn, A Covenant making God, and The Cosmology of the Church. In 2010 we will be studying topics like One Man s Purposeful Journey until the End, The Old Testament Family, and Family Stability and Cultural Continuity. These are exciting times we live in and we are blessed to be in God s good Graces. We also lost some faithful members of The Golden Years Bible Study Group. Sister Alice Jordan kept us laughing so much we forgot we had any problems. Her charm and wit will be missed. We will continue praying for her family. We will miss Mother Mary Bryant. We will always cherish her 102 years of wisdom she shared, her knowledge of the Bible, and her Walk with our Lord. We will continue to pray for her daughter, Sister Marie Kinzer, and family. The year 2009 was truly a year of change with new challenges ahead we will endure and continue to grow by the Grace of God. We look forward to 2010, being always watchful for our Lord Jesus Christ. May God s Graces and Mercy be with every member of Mount Gilead who looks to HILLS WHICH COMETH YOUR HELP, REALIZING THAT ALL OF OUR HELP COMETH FROM GOD! BE BLESSED! AMEN MINISTRY MATTERS Golden Years (Senior) Bible Study By: Sis. Eula Belle Hendricks The Golden Years (Seniors) Bible Study continues to meet on Tuesdays from noon until 1:00 p.m., studying the Holy Bible and enjoying great fellowship. During the 4th quarter of the year, the Seniors also had a Fish Fry, compliments of Ed Fish House, a Christmas Party on December 15 where they exchanged gifts and had refreshments and on December 18, took a bus tour to see the Christmas lights around the city and suburbs. It was so beautiful and everyone had an enjoyable time at these events. Please continue to pray for our Seniors during their golden years. May God bless! 3

We are REAL PEOPLE, With REAL PROBLEMS, Serving a REAL God with REAL SOLUTIONS! THE DEACON IN THE VINEYARD By: Mother Doris Petway A Presentation from The Nashville Club of Frontiers International, Inc. Deacon Albert Dawson was a highlight during the September meeting of the Nashville Club of Frontiers International, Inc. Yokefellows (Members), Junior Frontiers, and parents were very inquisitive and enthusiastic regarding his work at the Woodland Hills Youth Development Center. In June 2006, Deacon Dawson was named Superintendent of Woodland Hills and has served as Director of Community and Residential programs in the Department of Children s Services since July Frontiers International, Inc. is a non-profit civic/service organization and we sponsor a youth program, Junior Frontiers, currently in the program, We The People. This program is to improve their decision-making skills, enhance their self-esteem, promote scholastic achievement, community service and good citizenship in learning about the Constitution. Our juniors are in grades 6 through 12 and have been very successful in competition with over 1500 students from every state and every congressional district in the We the People Program. It is a must that our Youth are made aware of what goes on in our world today. Deacon Dawson gave a very detailed summary and a strong message to those young people in the meeting, to think about the choices they make in life and where some choices can lead them to places and circumstances that will cause trouble in their future. The overall tone was to share with other students and even family members in learning to say, NO, when you know it s not right. We appreciate Deacon Dawson s visit with us. He is a career juvenile justice advocate with over 30 years experience in the development, implementation, and administration of programs for juvenile offenders. The goal of Frontiers is Advancement through Service. HATS OFF TO MOTHER PETWAY Y 4

Happenings on the Mount Our First Lady s Tea By: Mother Doris Petway OH WHAT A TIME! Our First Lady s Tea was a spiritual and an awesome blessing showered upon us from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We were delighted to see our First Lady, Sister Angela Glatt, receive all the warm accolades of love and admiration. Our scriptural reference taken from Hebrews 5:24, And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works, was certainly illustrated through this powerful theme of following God s recipe. For we know God is love and in God s Word in Romans 12:3, it tells us not to think of yourself more highly than you ought, but to think soberly according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. The setting was marvelous as we dined on fine china with the sweet aroma of tea brewing topped by fresh flowers sprouting from the teapots. Delicate sandwiches and desserts with fresh fruits made your palate ready for the tasty treats. Everyone was on one accord, smiling and fellowshipping with each other. There were 48 ladies in attendance with 4 guests. Another special attraction of the event was the fashion models of Mt. Gilead dressed from head to toe in whatever the scene called for looking like they had just arrived from Paris (France, that is). Our fashion commentator, Sister Willie Freeman, was an added treat who set the pace for the ladies to do their strut and describe their outfits as walking down a runway to become the top models of the day. We appreciated all the participants and thank you once again for your willingness to share in such a beautiful occasion on behalf of our First Lady, Sister Glatt. Y 5

Breakfast with Pastor Glatt By: Mother Doris Petway WHAT A FELLOWSHIP, WHAT A JOY DIVINE! Well the men did it! Breakfast with the Pastor was a first at Mt. Gilead and a pleasurable treat for the men. They cooked, laughed, joked, fellowshipped and enjoyed the camaraderie of being in harmony on a beautiful Saturday morning. It was a morning that was special in God s sight where love and unity were expressed only by the brethren no ladies were in attendance. There were 38 men in attendance. It was always a delight to see the broad, happy smile on our Pastor s face. Because only men were in attendance, it seemed appropriate to have a handout titled the PAPA Prayer: Present Yourself to God without pretense Attend To how you are thinking of God Purge Yourself of anything blocking your relationship with God Approach God as the First Thing in Your Life Ladies, I heard that we have some very good male chefs at Mt. Gilead. Hopefully, they will get a chance to cook for the ladies. Pastor appreciation is the sign of a healthy church and healthy churches want to pay tribute to their pastor through loving acts of gratitude. We applaud you, Pastor Roderick J. Glatt, for 4 years at Mt. Gilead! Y 6

Pastor s Anniversary By: Sis. Barbara Ridley Time passes so swiftly. Our beloved Pastor, Roderick J. Glatt and First Lady Angela Glatt, celebrated their Fourth Year Anniversary with the Mt. Gilead Church family. We give all praises and glory to Christ our Savior for allowing us to come this far by faith. In his humbleness, Pastor Glatt asked that all gifts be given toward the Renovation Dream. The women of Mt Gilead honored Sis. Glatt with a First Lady s Tea. The men of Mt. Gilead honored Pastor Glatt with a breakfast they cooked themselves. They said it was delicious! On Anniversary Sunday, Dr. Robert Smith, Jr. from Birmingham, Alabama, delivered the sermon for the 7:45 and 10:45 Services. We were truly blessed to hear the word of God preached on the topics, The Church s One Foundation and Have You Been to Mt. Mariah? If you missed these sermons, you really missed a blessing. The first Family was then honored with small tokens of appreciation. State Representative Brenda Gilmore presented Pastor with a Proclamation from the State of Tennessee commending him on his service to our Church Family and the Community. It was a beautiful day. Many well wishes go out to our Pastor and his family! We thank God for you! We love you all! Y 7

Fall Gospel Revival By: Sis. Barbara Ridley Our Fall Gospel Revival was held on October 7-9, Elder Keelan Atkinson delivered inspirational sermons each night. Our souls were truly revived. Elder Atkinson is the Pastor of the W.O.R.D. Fellowship Reformed Baptist Church. Elder Atkinson preaches across the country sharing the Good News of God s free and sovereign grace. What a blessing we received for three glorious nights. Wednesday night was Ladies evening with the women providing two selections. Thursday night was men s night with the men providing two selections. Friday was designated as Children and Youth night with the children and Youth providing two selections. Each night after the selections were rendered, the singing groups moved to the audience and the famous Wardlaw Brothers, from Atlanta Georgia, provided the song service for the remainder of the evening. These are some singing BROTHERS! They sang to the Glory of God! God has truly anointed their voices. All three nights were an AWESOME experience! Following the Friday night Service, refreshments were served to everyone in the Fellowship Hall. This Gospel Revival was indeed a Mountain Top Experience! What a time, what a time, what a time! Thank you, Jesus, for another blessed heartfelt revival. Y Seniors and Other Ministries Participate in TSU Homecoming Parade Parading with the Word of God! By: Sis. Pat Adams The Lord allowed His beautiful sun to shine as thousands of onlookers lined both sides of Jefferson Street and even standing on bridges and buildings to witness this great annual event and we, the Mount Gilead Family was truly blessed to actively take part in the 2009, Tennessee State University Homecoming Parade. Our Golden Years Bible Study Class rode the church bus in the parade that was printed with our motto, We are real People with real Problems serving a real God with real Solutions; the bus was also carrying boxes and boxes of Bibles and pens. Several members of all ages marched in front of the bus singing, waving and most important of all, handing out to eager awaiting onlookers, Bibles and Ball Point Pens with our Church contact information. It was amazing to see so many people, even children, desiring the Word of God, yelling as loudly as they could, I want a Bible.. The TSU Parade has become a great means for sharing the Word of God and pointing others to the cross. Jesus said, If I be lifted up, I ll draw all men unto Me. This is definitely a wonderful method for providing to people, Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life. Blessed and Highly Favored. Y 8

The Voices Share in the Giving of Thanksgiving Baskets Thanksgiving Joy By: Sis. Barbara Ridley We give all thanks and praises to our Lord for allowing us to spread some joy during the Thanksgiving season. The Voices of Mt. Gilead were able to give 50 baskets to families in need. A special thanks goes to our Church family who participated by bringing in their food items to help fill our baskets. Each basket contained all the trimmings for preparing a delicious dinner including the turkey and much, much more. The Fleming Food Company also donated large bags of potatoes, apples, oranges, onions and celery. Praise God for them. Choir members prepared the baskets on Friday evening and delivered on Saturday morning until the night. Upon entering each of the homes, prayer, scripture and sometimes a song was rendered. Bibles were also given to the family members. One little boy who was given a Bible was overwhelmed and said This is the Holy Bible, I ll read it everyday. Another child said to his mother, Now we can eat! Church family, we should all appreciate how really blessed we are when we see the circumstances some families are facing. The joys the families give far outweighs our giving to them. Next year we want to do more and we would love to have you join us in the preparation and delivery of the baskets. You will truly be blessed! To God Be the Glory! t t t t Mission Sunday By: Sister Angela Glatt STEWARDS TO THE COMMUNITY The Second Harvest Food Bank Ministry at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church began its mission on January 31, 2009 and has now been in place for one full year. Mt. Gilead has collected over 6000 pounds of food for the Nashville Community. Mt. Gilead, GIVE YOURSELF A HAND! You have shown mercy to those in the greatest of need as food is a basic need for all human beings. Thank you for your generosity this past year and look forward to pouring out more blessings unto others in the upcoming year as GIVING LIFTS THE SOUL OF THE GIVER. He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Prov. 14:31 Y 9

Thanksgiving Morning Service We Give Thanks! By: Mother Debra Thompson Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good and His mercy endureth forever. We know that every day is a day of Thanksgiving. However, we set aside time on this Thanksgiving morning to come together with our friends at Gospel United Baptist Church for our annual Thanksgiving Day Worship Service. Our own Pastor Roderick Glatt presided and Pastor Ernest Norman delivered the word that was taken from Psalm 100:4-5. His sermon topic was God has been Good to Me. The Gospel United Choir blessed our hearts with songs of praise. Testimonies of thanksgiving were shared by several members from both congregations. From the testimonies, you could hear that God is good all the time! This was really another opportunity to give God all the praise and thanks for the marvelous things He does for each of us on a daily basis. After service, our physical bodies were blessed to have been served breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. Hats off to our Food Ministry for preparing a tasty meal that provided nourishment for our bodies! Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting: and His truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:4-5. Let s remember, in all things to give THANKS! 10 We are REAL PEOPLE, With REAL PROBLEMS, Serving a REAL God with REAL SOLUTIONS!

Family Worship Day By: Mother Debra Thompson Our Mt. Gilead Church family participated in the first Family Worship Day Service. This was a vision that was placed on our Pastor s heart. The first Family Worship Day Service was held on the last Sunday in November at the 10:45 Worship Hour. There was only one Worship Service held that Sunday. Many members and friends were in attendance. The Sanctuary was overflowing with those that wanted to be in this Special Service giving God all the honor and Glory that He so richly deserves. By this being the time of year set aside for Thanksgiving, families came together worshiping and thanking God for family ties. For we know that families that pray together, stay together. Music was provided by our combined choirs under the direction of Bro. Alton Gipson and Bro. Cedric Stevenson. We praise God for our Music Ministry Leadership. Pastor Glatt fed our spiritual souls with a powerful message from God s Holy Word. After service, the Food Ministry prepared A Wing Fling in the Fellowship Hall. There were wings galore of all kinds. Our physical bodies were fully blessed! Congratulations to the Vaughn Family for having the most family members in attendance! Many families came out to worship together! We praise God for you! Start making plans now to bring your family members IN for 2010 during our next Family Worship Day Service! In All Things Give Thanks! Two Coming Together as One By: Mother Debra Thompson Pastor Roderick J. Glatt and Pastor Gregory Powell, two anointed men of God, worked together to coordinate a Watch Night Service. This service of Praise and Worship was indeed pleasing to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pastor Powell presided over the service and Pastor Glatt delivered the Word. What a Time was had by all who attended the Holy-Ghost New Years Eve Celebration! This was truly a party that gave God all the honor, glory and praise. Many members from our Church Family, Morning Star and other friends were in attendance. Chairs were placed in the isles to provide for the overflow of people in attendance. We know that it was only by the Grace of God that we were blessed to witness the end of 2009, and the start of the 2010, New Year. The combined choirs ministered to our hearts and souls. The music was dynamic and everyone was on one accord. A sweet, sweet spirit was in that place. It was just a rehearsal for the Angelic Choir that we can look forward to when we all get to Heaven. Pastor Glatt fed our souls. He took his sermon from Acts 27: The Sermon topic was Stay in the Ship. Pastor Glatt gave us three reasons to stay in the ship. The first reason was because you are safe in the ship. The second thought was because you are secure in the ship and finally you should stay in the ship because you are saved. Ain t that good news! We can t afford not to stay in the ship regardless of the storms and strong winds that will surely come to rock our ship. Just remember, to be of good cheer, God is in total control. To close out the service, our own Minister Nate James did a Gospel rap to help us welcome in the New Year! Bro. Nate had it going on. Everyone accompanied him with hand claps and laughter. It was truly a SPIRITFILLED PARTY! Happy New Year and remember to stay in the ship! Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church Website By Sis. SPOTLIGHTING Mary Dismukes Missions Ministry Serving Mankind By: Sis. Pat Adams and Mother Debra Thompson The Mary Dismukes Missions Ministry functions within our Church family to assist in any way they can for those in need of spiritual or physical assistance. The majority of these members are our Seniors who are still active in being of service to mankind. They know that the Lord Jesus Christ desires Christians to be about their Heavenly Father business of evangelistic work to spread the Gospel. The Mary Dismukes Ministry provides opportunities for you to make a difference. They come together and pray unitedly and to be active in community service throughout the city and within our Church family. We can see that this ministry body does render their reasonable service in sharing their time, talents and treasures. We pray that you will continue to read and study the Word daily and be steadfast in prayer for the success of missions at home and in the community. Remember, that the Bible says, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13 Our prayers are with you! Your Church family is very pleased with your service! We Salute You, our Mary Dismukes Missions Ministry! 12

MaKinG a DiFFErEnCE The Doctor Speaks Dr. Mary D. Sherman, a retired educator spoke to the recent graduates of the GED program at Woodlawn Hills Youth Development Center. Her speech was titled, Today Is Your Day, The Time for You to Seize This Day and Continue Making Everything Count. Her speech was well received and enjoyed by the students, parents, faculty, and friends of Woodlawn Hills. Since it has been her career to work with children in many areas of her educational career, she was elated to see the young men receive their diplomas attired in their caps and gowns. A portion of the program allowed graduates to express themselves. Dr. Sherman was deeply moved when those students who gave remarks repeated some of her quotes just given in her speech, namely: 1) This is the next beginning of your life, 2) Think and set goals before you do things; 3) Think about God and give Him thanks. After the graduation ceremony, Superintendent of Woodlawn Hills Youth Development Center, Albert Dawson, and Dr. Sherman mingled with the parents, students, and faculty. There were approximately 120 persons in attendance. It was a very rewarding day, both for ones in attendance and for Dr. Sherman. Once an educator, you always have the desire to encourage, teach, and want to see students achieve. New Members to our Church Family By: Sis. 14 Sock-it-2-Me By: Elder Philip Buggs Naked and ye clothed me!(matt. 25:31-40) This year s mission event to Raise or Collect 1000 Pairs of socks for the homeless this Christmas season was a tremendous success! We initially sent out a call to meet this challenge on Sunday, December 6th at both services with flyers and a video enhanced presentation by Elder Phil Buggs. By Friday, December 18th, we had collected over 1,600 pairs of socks for the homeless. The total number of socks donated by the Mt. Gilead Missions Ministry 2009 Summary Church Family was 1,633 pairs of sock. On Saturday morning, December 19th at 8:45am, a representative group took 1,000 pairs of socks over to the Nashville Rescue Mission. Donation Center coordinator, Willie White and fellow Nashville Rescue mission Volunteers Shaun Val`Jean and Norman Rader warmly welcomed our gifts. Our Pencil partner school, Robert E. Lillard received the balance of 633 pairs of socks. On behalf of Pastor Glatt, I want to give a hearty; THANK YOU to all who contributed to the success of this ministry event in whatever capacity given. I know he is pleased with the positive showing of Christians at Mt. Gilead. Truly great strides are being made to put Missions back into Missionary at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. May our God continue to be glorified in both our words and deeds! Faithfully Submitted 14 Congratulations! Mother Petway Receives Her Certificate from TSU Presented By President Johnson! Mother Doris Petway celebrated her 40-year class reunion at Tennessee State University and was inducted into the Vintagers Club in August God continues to bless over and over again. I thank Him for Jesus and an opportunity to pursue a profession, but most of all for the gifts and talents to give Him the glory. It was good to see old friends and to make new acquaintances. Our own Johnna Jackson, a 10th grader at Hillsboro High School, along with other students met with Maestro Kelly Cocoran, Associate Conductor of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra at the W. O. 15 Girl Scout Ministry By: Sis. Twila Smith Girl Scout Troop 3279 The Girl Scouts have had an adventurous 3rd and 4th quarter. They have learned how to be healthy by eating the proper amount of fruits, vegetables, meat, and milk. During one of our Being Healthy troop meetings we made delicious fruit smoothies. We have also had meetings on good vs bad manners, good hygiene, and having fun being a girl. We have done lots of arts and crafts which included decorative head bands, hand crafted tote bags, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer Candy Canes. The troop also participated with the church in the TSU Homecoming Parade. We have taken various outings to the movies and just recently during the Holiday Season the troop had an outing to the Nutcracker Ballet performed by the Greenhill School of Dance. The girls really enjoyed the performance. The Girl Scouts sponsored their annual Diamond Tree, which was able to help 24 families during the Holiday Season. As we approach 2010 be on the look out for those famous GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Twila Smith Troop Leader 15
