3 Course Description Adaptive Reuse of Churches and Schools in Savannah This course provides an overview of the historical development of Savannah and its impact on urban planning. It reviews the importance of churches and school in the urban plan as key civic institutions. It reviews how the renovation and adaptive reuse of churches and schools are critical to a vibrant urban environment.

5 Learning Objectives At the end of the this course, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the importance of historic preservation of notable buildings in Savannah, Georgia, using case study examples and resources. 2. Identify the advantages of adaptive reuse within historic buildings in Savannah, Georgia, using case study examples and resources. 3. Understand the positive connection between historic preservation in Savannah, Georgia, and the Catholic Diocese of Savannah and Savannah College of Art and Design ( SCAD ), using case study examples and resources. 4. Understand the correlation between healthy churches and a healthy historic district within a historic city such as Savannah, Georgia, using case study examples and resources.
