2 GOSPEL MEDITATION ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE Should we be a little easier on Thomas? The last few days have been a whirlwind. On Thursday, a Passover celebration went horribly awry as Jesus was betrayed and taken into custody for unstated crimes. Less than 24 hours later, the simple arrest has turned into a death sentence to be carried out that very afternoon. Most of the disciples fled, including Thomas. He would have heard of the events of Good Friday secondhand, in shock over the death of his Lord and Master. Then Sunday morning arrives with joy from a few disciples-jesus is risen! But there is no persistent sight of him, only Mary Magdalene's quick moment in the garden and an empty tomb. Another day passes. The Apostles are gathered that Monday night, but Thomas is absent. He returns to a jubilant report of the risen Lord. Again, Thomas has seen nothing. The experience must have been surreal. Did Jesus really appear raised from the dead? Did he really suffer and die? Has all of this been some strange hoax? Desperate for an answer, Thomas insists, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." After his resurrection, Jesus' body--mangled and bloody from the crucifixion--is restored. Did it need the scars? A perfected body would have taught us one lesson: everything is renewed as it once was, the past erased. Jesus chooses another lesson, however. He retains his scars that we might know him. In the whirlwind of our lives, we make our own mistakes, our own betrayals and compromises. In the resurrected Jesus, we see a God who does not forget his own sorrow. We are invited to meet him--wound for wound--and place our hand on his own nailscarred palm, the eternal sign of his everlasting mercy. Twinned Parish News The Catholic Church s Newest Member! Mass Time Switch On April 22, the Sunday Mass times will be switched between the two parishes for Assumption s 1 st Communion Mass. St. Anthony will have Mass at 8:00 AM and Assumption will have Mass at 10:00 AM. Vocations Prayer In response to the great need for priests and religious vocations in our church we will be praying the Vocations Prayer, found on the blue card on the inside cover of your missalette, together at each Mass after the intersessions. This is a great way to offer more prayer and to bring more attention to the beautiful vocational life in the church. Job Posting The parishes of Assumption and St. Anthony s are hiring a full-time Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry. This individual, in collaboration with the Pastor, will primarily provide direction, plan and oversee a program of catechesis and evangelization for children and youth (pre- K-12), and help to engage families in the faith formation of their children. The candidate will also lead and oversee the Youth Ministry program in the parishes which will engage young students in their faith through programming and relationship building. This person must be a practicing Catholic with a love for the Church and her teachings and a desire to spread the love of Christ to others. First Holy Communion Assumption Church will be having First Holy Communion Mass on Sunday, April 22nd at the 10am Mass (St. Anthony's will be having Mass that morning at 8am). Practice for these second graders and at least one parent will be at 9:30am on Saturday, April 21st. Please bring along your finished banners to practice. Guild Church Cleaning Thank You Thank you to all the men, women and children who took the time to help with church cleaning. It was a very uplifting experience to see so many parishioners participate. Your dedication is truly appreciated. Traveling Chalice and Madonna The sign up sheet for hosting the Traveling Chalice and Madonna is in the back of church on the usher s table. Please consider hosting the chalice and Madonna for a week in your home. Individuals, couples and families are all encouraged to take part! If you have already hosted, feel free to sign up again. We live in an age of computer technology complete with things like Photoshop and other programs that can enhance photographs, create realistic images, and mimic artistic renderings. When looking at a picture of something, we find ourselves wondering if what we are seeing is real or just the result of technological creativity. Early believers came to believe because of what they witnessed in these new communities of faith. They saw people authentically living out Jesus' command to love and to show mercy. What do people witness when they see us in action?

5 Youth Activities! Molly Hesse will be marrying Patrick Latcham on April 21st at the Church of St. Anthony. Traveling Chalice and Madonna Prayer is a plant; the seed of which is sown in the heart of every Christian. If it is well cultivated and nourished, it will produce abundant fruit, but if it is neglected it will wither and die. (Ven. PRAYING THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET Begin with the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Apostles Creed. Using regular rosary beads, work your way around the five decades with the prayers below. On the standalone beads, pray: "Eternal Father, I offer you the body, blood, soul, and divinity of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world." On the decade beads, pray: "For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world." At the end, pray the following three times: "Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world." It is typical to conclude the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the words: "Jesus, I trust in you."
