I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, And is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again To judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give our thanks and praise. Celebrant Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of heaven and earth; we give you thanks and praise for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true paschal lamb who has taken away the sin of the world. By his death he destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won for us eternal life. Therefore, joining our voices with the whole company of heaven, we sing our joyful hymn of praise to proclaim the glory of your name. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. HYMN 210 Yours Be the Glory (Both services) ORGAN POSTLUDE Prelude and Fugue in D JS Bach A note from Syd: J S Bach never commented on what meaning he intended to convey through his great organ works. It is left to us to decide what might be found in a great organ work such as today s Prelude and Fugue in D Major. To me this piece is all about the resurrection. Right from the opening upward rising pedal scale Bach seems to be saying Christ Is Risen! Yet the resurrection comes at great cost, and twice Bach interrupts the exuberance of the Prelude with heavy, introspective passages that hark back to the suffering of Christ. That is how the Prelude ends, one final reference to the crucifixion. And then a fugue bursts out of the darkness, perhaps the most joyous and uplifting of all his organ fugues, and it hurtles towards its virtuosic climax, ending with summary of the journey, a pedal solo that takes us from the lowest pedal notes to the highest, from death to life everlasting. 9

FINANCIAL UPDATE: JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2018 YEAR TO DATE OFFERINGS YEAR TO DATE EXPENDITURES $28,144 (2018) $49,997 (2018) $31,722 (budget) $55,239 (2017) As the information suggests, we have some challenges to consider rectifying. The good news is that our fiscal management of the church is better than last year. The challenging news, however, is that we still have a shortfall of $3,578 for our first two months. We need to consider how we can meet our financial commitments as we move forward with a renewed vision of the church and our quest for solid sustainability. Pre Authorized Giving (PAG) is one positive option, already in use by a number of parishioners. It guarantees the church a regular source of income throughout the year. PAG new enrolment forms can be found in the pews, the back of the church or by contacting the church office ( , saints@allsaintspeterborough.org). Forms can 11

13 be used for new enrolments or changes to existing PAG and can be returned on Sunday mornings with the offerings or to the church office.
