3 GREETING Fr. Jim Schwartz begins: Priest All Priest All In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And with your spirit. 3

4 RECEPTION OF THE HOLY OILS Fr. Jim Schwartz continues: My friends, we are gathered together on this holy night to begin the Easter Triduum. United with the Church throughout the world, we commemorate the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We begin as he did: at the Passover table of the Last Supper. On Tuesday evening, united with the people of the Diocese of Rochester, Bishop Salvatore Matano consecrated the holy chrism and blessed the oils for use in the anointing of the sick and in the preparation of catechumens for Baptism. Tonight we receive these holy oils, which we will use in the celebration of the sacraments. By means of these powerful symbols, the crucified and risen Savior will continue in our midst the work he began at his death and resurrection: the work of forgiveness, healing and new life. Oil Bearers go to up the stairs to the altar platform here as the Music begins---the Cantor will lead the people in song. As each individual petition is intoned, the person holding the oil holds it high, one hand underneath the litany will be sung in this order: 1 This is the Oil of the Sick 2 This is the Oil of the Catechumens 3 This is the Sacred Chrism Once all three of the oils have been held up, as we are singing Thanks Be To God for the third and last time, the three oil bearers go down the stairs in front of them and meet Deacon Bill Coffey who will lead the three oil bearers back the middle aisle to the ambry. They will hand the oil vessels to Deacon Bill one at a time and he will place them into the ambry toppers for vessels will be on the shelves. They will walk back to their pews and Deacon Bill will go to his chair, joining the clergy in the sanctuary. OIL BEARERS Leave sanctuary after the thanks be to God is sung following Sacred Chrism. 4

5 NO PENITENTIAL ACT *****When the music ends for the Presentation of the Oils, Bill Crandall begins tolling the bells, turning on one switch at a time and the bells continue throughout the Glory to God, until the Amen. 6 WASHING OF THE FEET Fr. Jim Tonight we follow the command of Jesus to wash each other s feet. The first Eucharist was more than a simple meal it was a sign of sharing in the sacrifice that Jesus would offer. We invite all forward to experience this beautiful ritual. There are three stations; here in front and one to my right and one to my left. As we solemnly respond to the Lord s command, let us take time to reflect on the words and rituals we celebrate this night. Let us be people willing to bend down in humble service. Fr. Jim invites people to come forward for the washing of the feet ritual. As soon as he begins to invite the assembly, the Teams for Washing of the Feet go to their designated stations--see BELOW Worship Leadership Team should have some people ready to go first from the assembly. The foot washer s will do the ritual, when finished, wash each other's feet and leave the towels, bowls and pitchers where they are and members of the WLT will straighten up stations*. At the end of the ritual the teams at the chairs wash each other s feet, cueing the Musicians that the ritual has ended. 7 PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL Fr. Jim We have just celebrated the washing of feet as our Lord commanded. Let us bring our needs to God, whose gift of the Eucharist gives us the strength to follow Jesus example. Deacon Bill Coffey 1. For the Church throughout the world and here in our own parish as we strive to follow Jesus model of loving service and mercy. Cantor 2. For peace throughout all the world Cantor 3. For those who grow our grain and grapes, who make our wine and bake our daily bread, and see to our many physical needs. Cantor 4. For our parish community and especially those to be baptized and received into the Church, that our faith be deepened as we celebrate these holiest days of the year. Cantor 5. For the sick and homebound of St. Joseph s parish community and all who take the Eucharist to them, that their living communion with us in the Body of Christ be a source of healing and strength. Especially those for whom we now pray. (pause) Cantor 6. For all who have died to know the embrace of our loving God. Especially those for whom we now pray. (pause) Cantor 7. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, (pause) Cantor Fr. Jim Good and Gracious God, we ask you to hear our prayers today. May our celebration of this most holy Eucharistic Banquet bring us closer to the day when all will be one in you and Christ Jesus our Lord, forever and ever. Amen 7
