The people stand. the prayers of the people For our sisters and brothers, let us pray to our Lord Jesus Christ who said, I am Resurrection, and I am Life. Lord, you consoled Martha and Mary in their distress; draw near to us who mourn, and dry the tears of those who weep. You wept at the grave of Lazarus, your friend; comfort us in our sorrow. You raised the dead to life; give to our brothers and sisters eternal life. Your promised paradise to the thief who repented; bring our sisters and brothers to the joys of heaven. Our brothers and sisters were washed in Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit; give them fellowship with all your saints. Our sisters and brothers were nourished with your Body and Blood; grant them a place at the table in your heavenly kingdom. Comfort us in our sorrows at the death of our brothers and sisters; let our faith be our consolation, and eternal life our hope. Gracious God, we pray to you for our sisters and brothers, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Here the necrology is read. Grant to them eternal rest. Receive the bread in the palm of your hand. Eat the bread and then drink from the cup when it is offered to you. If you wish to receive a blessing rather than receive communion, cross your arms over your chest this will alert the priest to your desire to be blessed. 5

Grant that this Sacrament may be to us a comfort in affliction, and a pledge of our inheritance in that kingdom where there is no death, neither sorrow nor crying, but the fullness of joy with all your saints; through Jesus Christ our Savior.
