Holy Cross and St. Paul of the Cross Provincial Councils meet November 6-9 in North Palm Beach, Florida. Holy Cross Province Provincial Council will meet November 9. On October 18, Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School hosted a performance by Nancy Murray, OP, sister of actor Bill Murray. Sr. Nancy performed St. Catherine of Siena: A Woman for Our Times, an original one-woman show portraying the life of one of the Church s most beloved saints. Following the performance, more than 125 guests enjoyed a light reception hosted by the Ladies of Charity of Central Alabama. The show raised over $5,000 for the high school. Thank you to all who purchased tickets, to Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church for providing space for the event, and to Sr. Nancy Murray for bringing St. Catherine of Siena to life! Don Senior gave a presentation on the Spirituality of Fundraising and Administration to Chicago Catholic Fundraisers, a group of Chicago area Catholic development officers created by Angela Kwasinski and Dan Pritchard of the Society of the Little Flower. Phase I of the renovations is complete at the new Passionists of Holy Cross Province office, combining the Provincial and Development Offices under one roof. Phase II began on Monday, October 23, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of December. 2 Page 2 Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM)... Joe Moons and John Schork, along with Denis Travers and Dan Flynn, attended a three-day training workshop sponsored by CMSM for the safety of children and young and vulnerable adults. The workshop focused on how to build a community culture of safety and well-being, and the importance of healthy community living and the role of local and province leadership. During their recent visit to Sacred Heart Monastery in Lousiville, Loretta Ciesielski and Barbara Ayers had the opportunity to visit with Richard Parks at Nazareth Home Clifton. Louisville, Kentucky On Sunday, September 17, St. Agnes Parish dedicated the newly constructed front entry way to the church. This new plaza was dedicated to the memory of Raymond Ray Hauck whose service at St. Agnes spanned 63 years. It provides the parish with a large gathering space in front of the building as well as an ADA accessibility ramp.

The Association of Local Superiors (ALS) and the Province Retreat Center Board (PRCB) meetings were held October at St. Paul of the Cross Passionist Retreat and Conference Center in Detroit, Michigan. 5 Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Fatima... Clemente Barrón served as chaplain for a group of 36 pilgrims from the Guadalupanos Society of St. Luke s parish in San Antonio, Texas, at the invitation of Dr. Ricardo and Bea Riojas, Passionist partners. The pilgrims visited some of the Marian Shrines in France, Spain, and Portugal, culminating with the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. On October 13, a Mass was celebrated commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady to three shepherd children: Sts. Lucia de Jesus, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto. Clemente Barrón begins the third year of Spanish Language Ministries in Holy Cross Province. In partnership with Clemente s efforts, Arthur Carrillo held Breve Retiros, Evenings of Recollection in Spanish, sponsored by Christ the King and Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Centers. This program is part of the province s commitment to Spanish-speaking ministry. Arthur Carrillo with the group at Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center in Citrus Heights, California. Eight of the retreatants drove two hours from South Lake Tahoe in order to attend the retreat, returning that same evening.

6 Page 6 Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center... Through the generosity of a dear benefactor, Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center received a beautiful statue of St. Michael. The statue is seated in its permanent place near the entrance of the retreat center. From there, he extends his watchful peace upon all who come and go from the center. Special thanks to the Most Rev. George Sheltz, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, who graciously accepted to preside over the Liturgy and Blessing. Special thanks to all those who shared in this Mass, in honor of the tradition we inherited from our founder, St. Paul of the Cross, and in devout supplication to St. Michael for his protection. Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center celebrated the 150th anniversary of the canonization of St. Paul of the Cross with our priests, staff, benefactors, board members and friends of the Center. The Presider was the Most Reverend Brendan J. Cahill, Bishop of the Diocese of Victoria, Texas.

7 Happenings at Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center... On Saturday, October 13, the inaugural Marian Procession was held at Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center. Most Reverend Myron J. Cotta, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento, celebrated Mass followed by a Rosary Procession around the grounds. Each decade of the rosary was recited in a different language. The liturgy concluded with Benediction. About 400 people attended the day, the highlight being the students of Holy Trinity School who dressed as the children of Fatima and others who greeted the statue of Our Lady by spreading rose petals on the ground. The Knights of Columbus and students from the Jesuit School carried the statue, and a student from St Francis Girls High School participated in the Offertory and led the carrying of a 40 foot wooden rosary in the procession. On October 20, Jim Strommer officially blessed and opened the new St. Paul of the Cross Memorial Garden. The garden features brick pavers surrounding the statue of St. Paul of the Cross. The garden is dedicated to the memory of Steven Floyd Barry, who was the son of Jay and Linda Barry, long term benefactors and retreatants of Christ the King. Steven was an architect by profession and, tragically, died at the age of 36 during a family trip several years ago. Steven was involved with Christ the King as a kid, helping and volunteering at different events, and serving as an altar boy. Giltus Mathias and Jim Strommer during the blessing of the garden.
