1 ISSUE 1 OCTOBER, 2017 St. Teresa Times The St. Teresa School Family Newsletter Father Hottovy and Father Raminedi led the Eucharistic Procession Consecrated to Christ students in procession of the Holy Eucharist. Each classroom and student was blessed by the presence of Jesus as they consecrated by Sarah Tlamka with Father Raminedi A beautiful Eucharistic procession was led by Father Hottovy and Father Raminedi during the first week of school. Each classroom was visited by the real Presence of Jesus in Holy Eucharist as a reverent blessing which consecrated the students, teachers, staff, learning processes, and classrooms to Jesus, Himself. Because Christ Himself resides in the Eucharist, when the procession went into the school, the blessing of Christ was brought into each space reminding all involved that Christ is present with them. This was a moving experience for the priests, as well as all the students and staff. The children responded in a very reverent, respectful, and prayerful way in the Presence of the Eucharist. This was a very holy and special way to begin the school year. What a blessing it is to be able to experience and carry out our faith in every aspect of our lives, especially in the building where our children spend the majority of their time. 1 themselves to Him.

2 Solar Eclipse of 2017 On August 21,2017 thousands of people gathered across Nebraska to witness the Total Eclipse. Occuring the first time since 1918 over the United States, students of Saint Teresa s experienced totality on the playground in the company of their teachers and friends. Thoughts About the Eclipse from the 8th Grade Wow! I m never going to get to experience this again. This is really cool! Piper Steiner When in totality, the view was breathtaking!" Evan Wagner I was in awe. The wondrous creation God has made that confounds mankind. To see such a celestial event in my home, at my school, was a beautiful blessing. Felicity Davis The color was astounding with spots of black and purple. The sun at the end had the look of a diamond ring. 3 ISSUE 1 OCTOBER, 2017 In the Classroom by Terri Schilmoeller In an exci)ng new experiment, seventh and eighth graders were given the opportunity to choose their music class this semester. In accordance with their selec)ons, two-thirds of the students are learning guitar and ukulele, and the remaining third is studying middle school choral repertoire. Having twenty-four guitarists in one room was overwhelming at first, but now that we've developed a quick system for tuning their instruments (involving me working up a sweat and frequently shou)ng "don't prac)ce strumming YET,") classes have been enjoyable and hopefully instruc)ve for the students. They are learning to play the twelve most common chords seen in guitar music, and it is apparent who prac)ces outside of class. Some students are making amazing progress. This is a good )me to thank all of those school families and parishioners who donated instruments to the cause. The "choral skills" students have learned some standard vocal warmups, are working towards singing in three-part harmony, and have plenty of difficult rhythms in their pieces to dissect. They are also experiencing firsthand the problem that haunts every choral director everywhere: Chronic ChaNng. The dichotomy of "needing lotsa bodies" to make a solid choir and the fact that "lotsa bodies means lotsa talking" has found a (temporary, I'm sure) res)ng place in the music room. Ergo, choral skills class now features mini-lessons on professionalism. Ah, the joy of teaching life skills. Love it! And actually, I do. The students have been flexible and good-natured throughout this fun project, which is great to see. Here's hoping there is some extra music happening in your own homes because of it! The Feast of Saint Teresa The students celebrated the Feast of St. Teresa by dressing up, receiving a special gift, and offering prayers 3

4 WALK THE LITTLE WAY St. Teresa showered down roses on the Walk the Little Way Fundraiser. Collectively, the walk brought in over $42,000, which was over $7,000 more than our initial goal. Each class prayed the Rosary as they walked. Goal met!!! Mass by Candlelight: Sister s Reflection God is good! I want you to be aware of our beautiful experience in Mass on the morning of October 5th. I m sure your children will share with you their experience. After the homily the electricity went on and off a couple times and then completely off in Church. The three offertory students said they would be fine to continue and would find their way. The acolyte started to light all the candles in the sanctuary. Several teachers went up to get more candles to light the aisles and then these were used at communion time. It truly was an inspiring moment to celebrate the Mass by candle light. It was so peaceful and everyone was calm as the Mass went on. Jesus was with us and we were not afraid. Another amazing thing was how God provides in so many ways. The students received "bullet" flashlights for the Feast of St. Therese. These flashlights represented the bullet that shot St. John Paul II which was placed in the crown of Our Lady of Fatima statue in Fatima, Portugal. St. John Paul II believed it was Our Lady of Fatima who steered the bullet away from his heart. Thus, the students in the choir loft were able to use these flashlights to read the music and several used them in the pews. God knew we would have a need for them. by Sister Anne-Joelle 4
