Inspire others to walk in your steps and bring new life to all people for evermore. Amen In the Christian church year, the two major cycles of seasons, Christmas and Easter, are far more than a single day of observance. Like Christmas, Easter itself is a period of time rather than just a day. It is actually a seven-week season of the church year called Eastertide. These seven Sundays are called the Sundays of Easter, climaxing on the seventh Sunday, the Sunday before Pentecost Sunday. Ascension Day (actually the 40th day after Easter Sunday, which always falls on Thursday, is celebrated on the actual day. Ascension Day marks not only the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, but his exaltation from servant hood to Ruler and Lord as the fitting climax of Resurrection Day. Easter encompasses a time of preparation (Lent; Advent for Christmas) as well as a following period of reflection on its significance for the life of God s people (Pentecost; Epiphany for Christmas). However, while Epiphany following Christmas focuses on the mission of God s people to the world, the Pentecost season following Easter focuses on the church as the witness to the resurrection. In anticipation of this emphasis at Pentecost, the Scripture readings during the Sundays of Easter are different, with readings from the Acts of the Apostles replacing readings from the Old Testament. This emphasizes that the church, as empowered by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, is the best witness to the resurrection and the work of God in the world in Jesus the Christ. April 2018

2 The Future of School Chaplaincy in our local area. Over recent years Chaplains have been operating in a number of our Primary Schools (Baringa Special School, Albert Street, Elizabeth Street, South Street, Newborough East and Newborough) as well as a long standing chaplaincy at Lowanna College. The cost of providing a chaplain is not cheap and many of the schools have relied on funding provided by the State Education Department from Commonwealth Government Funds. Unfortunately over time some of the schools have not been successful in gaining these funds and have to rely on local community support. Currently there are Chaplains at Baringa, South Street and Lowanna with Government Funding and Newborough East solely from community support. The current Government Funding Cycle is due to end at the end of this year and the Government is to make a decision in April / May as to whether they will continue to provide the money in the budget. While many recognise the value of chaplains working in schools (just as in hospitals and work places) in providing welfare and pastoral care for students, families and staff there are those in the community who actively work against having chaplains on the grounds that they are faith based workers. This group are very active in lobbying politicians to end Government funding. It is clear that if funding was to cease chaplaincy would be greatly threatened in this community as we do not have the financial base to support this work across our school network. If you would like to see chaplaincy funding continued you may like to consider writing to members of parliament such as the Prime Minister, Treasurer and Local Federal Members (Russell Broadbent and Darren Chester). It is considered that individual / private letters carry more weight than template letters, but if you would like further information or ideas of what to write this material is available from me on request. World Day of Prayer Suriname The Republic of Suriname lies in the northeastern part of South America. Suriname is named after the Surinen tribe, one of the indigenous peoples of the land. About 50 people attended the World Prayer Day service at St Luke s on March 2nd. The guest speaker was Wills Mana who, since December 2017 has been the new Chaplain at Lowanna College. Wills spoke to us about how by the mercy and grace of God we have all of the wonderful animals, beautiful country and why we should endeavour to keep it that way. The combined church congregation watched a short video of life and the living conditions in Suriname. The theme for the Suriname worship service urged us to evaluate how our actions affected our planet - one of our Lord's greatest creations. The environmental crisis is also a crisis of global justice. God s justice always meant loving and sacrificial self-giving. We, as Christians cannot be silent. We live in the hope and belief that people have the means, and increasingly, the will to focus on justice, peace, and the integrity of creation. To recycle is to give a new use to objects, thus reducing the consumption of resources that may degrade the planet. We may use the way we do WDP activities to educate and campaign for climate justice. Thank you to the organisers of the prayer day and for the plentiful morning tea afterwards. Next year the World Day of Prayer will be hosted at St Mary s Catholic Church, Newborough. The country focused in 2019 will be Slovenia with the theme Come. 3 ble. From Father Sathi I was searching for a seamless connection between the Resurrected Jesus of the Christian faith and the secular appreciations that demonstrate our faith. I then found this cartoon. Thank God for cartoonists and their numerous creative skills at not only drawing something, but, drawing with imagination and perception! An Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore, used his creativity to pen these words Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man. Seems like a resurrection message to me. - Something like Life continues, from a Divine perspective! The empty tomb seems to suggest that life is a journey of many beginnings. Craig D. Lounsbrough a Christian Counsellor says, Maybe I don t have enough beginnings in my life because I fought against the endings that were about to birth those beginnings. I found another encouraging quote. Jesus' tomb wasn't His grave, but our door. Patricia Raybon, The One Year God's Great Blessings Devotional These quotes echo a clear message that there is a sort of continuity in living. And that we might have to discover this for ourselves. Another possible invitation is to reflect creatively or positively about our tomb like experiences. One s tomb experience, could have been that chapter in life, from which escape was much desired. It may be that we need not have to revisit that tomb. May be we cannot but revisit and recall those moments. Just so that one could reflect with questions such as, How did I escape? How did I survive?. The Bible reminds us that the victorious empty tomb is as important as the Cross that preceded it. They are mutually inseparable and inextrica- Maybe some eggs and chocolates with the resurrected Jesus could be a good picnic. A sacramental picnic! Especially if it commences with Church worship! 4 WALHALLA CHURCH WORKING BEE: Sathi, Jan, Gwyn and David travelled to Walhalla on Tuesday 13th to Spring Clean the Walhalla Church for a forthcoming wedding in April. The people of Walhalla have been tending to the garden area in front of the church and from all accounts it looks a picture. Photo below is the memorial wall. PALM CROSS MAKING NIGHT On Wednesday evening, 14th March, a group of parishioners met at St Aidans to make crosses out of palm fronds for the forthcoming palm Sunday. A fun night of fellowship was had whilst achieving our quota of crosses. If you think it is easy making these crosses, come along next time and try! Lessons were available and required but were greatly appreciated by some of us.

Father John Goodman will be celebrating his 90th Birthday on April 10th and has extended an open invitation to all parishioners to celebrate with him at a Big Morning Tea following the 10am Wednesday Morning Service at St Luke s on the 4th April. Have a wonderful Birthday Fr. John from all of your parish friends. Room to Use or Hire Our Parish has recently taken possession of the Portable Building situated on the 7 Anzac Street site behind Trinity House. The building was dedicated as :The Madge Vinnell Centre in honour of a very loyal and hardworking member of the congregation of Holy Trinity Moe. The Building is carpeted, air conditioned, has a bathroom / toilet, sink area and a refrigerator. It would be an ideal place for a parish group to hold an activity or a community group to use.. Anyone wishing to use the facility should contact the Parish Secretary or the Parish Office.

6 MAGDALENE CENTRE NEWBOROUGH A belated welcome and thank you to Gwyneth who has been working every second Thursday afternoon. Gwyn has lots of experience in op shops and is also a volunteer at Moe. We warmly welcome two new volunteers. Mark who joined us on Monday March 19th. Mark comes with experience from Vinnies and will be doing 2 shifts in the shop and 1 in the shed weekly and Joan who started on March 15th: Joan has offered to help us on Thursday afternoons and has had previous op shop experience. Julie, who was off for a month working full time and Terri who has been twanging the guitars in Tamworth, have both returned and we are glad to have them back. We say it many times and will continue to say Thank You to all that help us in the shop and shed. Please make our new volunteers welcome. Still our customers continue to support us and as many are repeat customers, we thank them all. Because of those customers our sales are still doing well. Our stock is being continually rotated and the quality we have been striving for is being maintained. Thank you to all of our workers, church ladies included. ANGELS TREASURES OP SHOP Our Moe Op Shop Team welcomed the news that long term volunteer, Val Deveney, is back home and hoping to join us when she can. Another long time team member, Barbara Baszczuk, who has organised the shop rosters for a number of years, has informed us that for family reasons she is no longer able to continue. We are extremely grateful for all she has done over the years and wish her and her family our best wishes. Trinity House Op Shop Annexe Our Trinity House second hand furniture venture has at last moved to a more formal stage of operation. A team has been formed to open the annexe every second and fourth Friday of the month from 10am to 4pm and every second and fourth Saturday from 9am. Our thanks to the team and our continued thanks to John and Dave who undertake most of the work of collecting donated furniture. Even you haven t called in and had a look make sure that you do. Our Men s Breakfast Group has met throughout Lent for a Lenten Breakfast of Tea & Toast and to join in studying The Distorted Images of God. We will take a break in April (therefore no meeting on Saturday 7 th ). Then we will resume with our accustomed cooked Breakfast at 8am on Saturday May 5 th at Saint Aidan s. All are welcome to join us. Contribution to Breakfast is by donation. When we meet on the 5 th May we will plan out a program for the rest of the year. The website also allows us to post items to face book so for those who use face book look for the : On a very hot Saturday last week (17th Mar.) six workers turned up to clean out our church shed. This was the first of our once a month working bees. The mice (if there were any) along with all spiders have had to find new accommodation. The team did a wonderful job considering the amount of dirt and cobwebs etc. The church possessions were cleaned, packed and carefully covered then stored in one corner. The op shop shed sorters have now gained significant room to work in. Pauline was busy with the trailer to the tip and we thank her ever so much for her untiring work. Present on the day were David, Peter, Kerri, Helen, Pauline and Alice. Thank you so much for the hard, dirty and hot work that you all did. The shed looks great and will be easy to keep clean now. Many thanks to Kerri and Peter who have donated a small fridge for the workers in the shed. Other Lenten study groups are still running and have been well attended and received. It is a great way to reconnect to the bible. The discussions are really interesting and enlightening by deepening our awareness of God's presence in our lives. We are continually seeking how to discover his calling and purpose for us and for the faith and strength to follow. The course brings us into a deeper, personal relationship with God leading us to think more deeply through to the events of Holy Week.
