OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE DEVOTIONAL AREA and Pilgrim Center Plaza Situated here is a bronze sculpture of Our Lady of Guadalupe. May Our Lady guide you on your journey to her Divine Son! The Pilgrim Center Lobby. Information about the Shrine grounds and hospitality facilities is located here. 1 Restrooms are to the right, including a private restroom with a changing station. 1 The Orientation Room is to the left. View a film about Our Lady s apparitions, the beginnings of the Shrine, and plans for future development. Paintings depict the apparitions of Our Lady in Culina Mariana (Mary s Kitchen). The café serves breakfast - lunch - afternoon desserts and beverages. Flores Mariae (Flowers of Mary). The gift shop offers a large selection of religious items for every age group. Please exit the back doors of the Pilgrim Center and follow the path to the left. Devotional areas along the way will assist you on your pilgrimage. MOTHER OF GOOD COUNSEL Votive Candle Chapel Make a spiritual offering of your pilgrimage and light a candle for your intentions. Stained-glass windows depict apparitions and titles of Our Lady. Saint Kateri Tekakwitha devotional area Commissioned with help from the local Native American community, the sculpture depicts The Lily of the Mohawks in the authentic garb of her Turtle Clan. Her gaze conveys her thoughts: Jesus, I love You Saints ISIDORe and MARIA de la Cabeza DEVOTIONAL AREA [future] Saint Joseph the Workman Devotional area In a symbolic scene in Nazareth, this bronze casting of St. Joseph emphasizes the fatherly qualities of strength and tenderness. Allow St. Joseph to teach you to deepen your relationship with Jesus. Saint Juan Diego and Bishop Juan DE zumárraga statue As you approach the Church, stop for a few minutes at the bronze sculpture of Our Lady s messenger, Saint Juan Diego, as he opens his tilma to Bishop Juan de Zumárraga. Blessed John Duns Scotus Friary The Friary is the private residence of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. Blessed John Duns Scotus, a Franciscan theologian, is best known for his defense of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady. Shrine Church The Church is the spiritual center of the Shrine. The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are offered daily in order to assist pilgrims on their spiritual journey. A prominent image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will direct your gaze toward her Divine Son, present in the tabernacle. Every detail has a special meaning. For example: 1 The constellations in the dome match the constellations that illumined the night sky on December 12, 1531 when Our Lady last appeared. 1 The devotional areas include paintings and first class relics of Saints and Blesseds The Memorial to the Unborn and Mother of the Unborn Devotional Area Dedicated to babies who were not brought to full term, the Memorial stands as a testimony to the dignity of all human life. Interred in the mausoleum walls are the earthly remains of such children. Please observe a reverential silence. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Unborn, cradles three babies in her arms. Guardian Angel of the Unborn cradles a baby, with two children standing on either side of the Angel. Stations of the Cross The Stations recall Jesus final hours. In contemplation and prayer at each station, you are invited to walk with Jesus on His journey to Calvary. ROSARY WALK Beautiful tiles depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary will assist you in praying the Rosary and meditating upon major events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. Plaques display the Hail Mary in four languages. As you return to the meditation trail, recall Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke s words: The Shrine should be a place of pilgrimage, an extraordinary place to which the faithful might come at any time, but especially in times of special joy and of special need, to be renewed in faith and grace. It is our hope and prayer that the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be that place for you, today and always. Fr. John A. Hardon, S.j., Marian Catechist Apostolate Center and Retreat House [future] Organized Pilgrimage Groups Welcome. 1 THANK YOU FOR MAKING A PILGRIMAGE TO THE SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE. As a place of pilgrimage the Shrine depends on the generosity of pilgrims like you. Please consider making a gift to support our mission. Thank you for your generosity!
9 Pilgrims May Gain Plenary Indulgences Affiliation with the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, Founder of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, announced on July 31, 2011, that the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse has been affiliated to the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. With this affiliation comes the opportunity for pilgrims visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe to gain plenary indulgences, under the usual conditions. A plenary indulgence is the entire remission of temporal punishment due to sin, the guilt of which has been forgiven. "With the affiliation comes a most generous grant of indulgences, so that pilgrims to this church of Our Lady of Guadalupe may draw more fully upon the rich treasury of the merits of the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and of His Sorrowful Mother and of all the saints who have shared with Him, to an heroic degree, in His Suffering and Dying. In gratitude, let us pray, in a special way today, for the intentions of our Holy Father. Let us also hasten to draw upon his rich gift to us for the sake of the salvation of souls, especially the souls of our brothers and sisters in Purgatory. -- Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke Plenary Indulgences may be gained at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the following days: 1. On August 5, the patronal feast day of the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome; 2. On December 12, the patronal feast day of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe; 3. On all solemnities of the Blessed Virgin Mary, namely: January 1 (Mother of God), March 25 (Annunciation), August 15 (Assumption), and December 8 (Immaculate Conception); 4. On any day chosen by a pilgrim once a year; 5. As many times during the year as the faithful are part of an organized pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse for purposes of devotion, reform of life, growth in holiness and greater communion with the Holy Father and all the members of the Church, through the intercession of the Virgin Mother of God and Mother of the Church, each of the participants in the pilgrimage may gain a plenary indulgence. Conditions for gaining the Plenary Indulgence are the following: visit to the Shrine Church, the prayer of the Creed and one Our Father during the visit, together with the usual conditions for gaining a plenary indulgence, namely: sacramental Confession, Holy Communion and a prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father (for example, one Our Father and one Hail Mary), fulfilled within about 20 days (before or after) of the prescribed work (i.e. visit to the Shrine Church), in addition to detachment from all sin, including venial sin. Sacramental Confession and Holy Communion (within Mass) are available at the Shrine daily.
