Canonization Homily Pope Benedict XI October 11, 2009 St. Damien de euster was born January 3, 1840 in Belgium and died April 15, He ministered from 1873 until 1889 in the Kingdom of Hawaii to people who had leprosy. After ministering to the leper colony in Moloka i for 16 years, he died of leprosy. He is the patron saint of leprosy and of Hawaii. 20 St. Mother Théodore uérin Mother Théodore uérin was always open for the missions the Church entrusted to her, and she found the strength in the Eucharist, in prayer and in an infinite trust in Divine Providence. Canonization Homily Pope Benedict XI October 15, 2006 Mother Théodore uérin was born October 2, 1798 in France and died May 14, 1856 in Indiana. She founded a congregation of Catholic nuns in Indiana and opened a school for young women which would eventually become a college. She is known for her advancement of education and establishing parish schools throughout Illinois and Indiana. She also established two orphanages and free pharmacies.
