3 JANUARY 7, THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD Dear Parishioner and Friends of St. Timothy, As you got up this morning, I watched you, and hoped you would talk to me, even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for something good that happened in your life yesterday. But I noticed you were too busy, trying to find the right outfit to wear. When you ran around the house getting ready, I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello, but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait, fifteen minutes with nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me, but you ran to the phone and called a friend to get the latest gossip instead. I watched patiently all day long. With all your activities, I guess you were too busy to say anything to me. I noticed that before lunch you looked around, maybe you felt embarrassed to talk to me. That is why you did not bow your head. You glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you did not. That s okay. There is still more time left, and I hope that you will talk to me yet. You went home and it seems as if you had lots of things to do. After a few of them were done, you turned on the television. I do not know if you like television or not, just about anything goes there and you spend a lot of time each day in front of it not thinking about anything, just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you watched the television and ate your meal, but again you did not talk to me. Bedtime I guess you felt too tired. After you said goodnight to your family, you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no time. That s okay, because you may not realize that I am always there for you. I have more patience than you will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well. I love you so much that I wait every day for a nod, prayer or thought or a thankful part of you heart. It is hard to have a onesided conversation. Well, you are getting up once again. And once again I will wait, with nothing but love for you. Hoping that today you will give me some time. Have a nice day! Your friend, GOD. Next year from October 26 th through November 4 th, I will be leading a group from our parish and surrounding area to the holy land. On a journey of faith and inspiration to sites old and new in the inviting land of the Bible. I am having brochures made up and when they get printed, I will make them available. I am being told by the travel agency that space is at a premium and we need to act on this quickly. Round-trip, economy class airfare and departure taxes, Orlando, Detroit or Washington, DC. 8 nights accommodations in superior quality hotels Daily breakfast at the hotels Six lunches and 8 three-course dinners tour guides throughout your stay Cost per person - $4,995. Ed has suggested that a way parishioners may wish to celebrate this Jubilee Year of the Eucharist would be to spend 50 hours in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. More specifically, Father suggested the hours be spent in our Last Supper Perpetual Adoration Chapel. The fifty hours can be spread over the year in any way you deem appropriate. For information, call Deacon Dick or Lynne Bigelow at CATHOLIC ADULT EDUCATION CORNER The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates how Christ is the savior of all peoples from all nations, as represented by the Three Kings (Magi) from the east. The gift of gold symbolizes Christ s Kingship over the world. Many missionaries in Church history have proclaimed Christ to non-christians because of this belief that all people were destined to submit to Christ s Kingship. Like Muslims who believe the whole world will be Muslim in the end, Christians believe the whole world will be Christian in the end. The challenge has always been whether people are to be converted through love or through force.

8 THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD JANUARY 7, 2018 MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church LOVE FOR OTHERS "You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the lord your God" (Leviticus 19:34). ENCOUNTER JESUS Every stranger who knocks at our door is an opportunity for an encounter with Jesus Christ, who identifies with the welcomed and rejected strangers of every age (Matthew 25:35-43). The Lord entrusts to the Church's motherly love every person forced to leave their homeland in search of a better future. "EVERY STAGE" This solidarity must be concretely expressed at every stage of the migratory experience from departure through journey to arrival and return. "MANY CHALLENGES" This is a great responsibility, which the Church intends to share with all believers and men and women of good will, who are called to respond to the many challenges of contemporary migration with generosity, promptness, wisdom and foresight, each according to their own abilities. "OUR SHARED RESPONSE" I wish to reaffirm that "our shared response may be articulated by four verbs: to welcome, to protect, to promote and to integrate." WELCOME, PROTECT Welcoming means... offering broader options for migrants and refugees to enter destination countries safely and legally...protecting... may be understood as a series of steps intended to defend the rights and rights and dignity of migrants and refugees, independent of their legal status. "A DETERMINED EFFORT" Promoting... means a determined effort to ensure that all migrants and refugees as well as the communities which welcome them are empowered to achieve their potential as human beings... OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENRICHMENT Integrating... concerns the opportunities for intercultural enrichment brought about by the presence of migrants and refugees. MARY OUR MODEL The Holy Mother of God herself experienced the hardship of exile..., lovingly accompanied her Son's journey to Calvary, and now shares eternally His glory. To her maternal intercession we entrust the hopes of all the world's migrants and refugees and the aspirations of the communities which welcome them, so that, responding to the Lord's supreme commandment, we may all learn to love the other, the stranger, as ourselves.
