1 Lesson 5: State in Life Vocation SWBAT define state in life vocation and explain that the 3 branches symbolize the 3 State in Life Vocations. Materials State in Life Vocation Definition sheet, posted in classroom; student copies of Warm-up/Closure, Examples of Vocation Activity Minibiographies and Blank sheets; student pairs of scissors; paste; Teacher Examples of Vocations; Teacher Answer Key Warm-up Students complete the front of the Warm-up sheets. ~5 minutes Sequence 1 ~25-28 minutes Discuss Warm-up sheets. Elicit that the State in Life Vocation part of the tree has three branches coming from it, and that it comes after the Baptismal Vocation (if going up). Yes, the State in Life Vocation part of the tree comes right out of the trunk where the Baptismal Vocation is. God calls everyone to Baptism that is our first lifelong vocation. And then he calls each of us to another lifelong vocation to a state in life vocation. There are 3 different branches for the 3 different state in life vocations. These branches are symbols of the 3 state in life vocations. Our state in life vocations helps us to develop a special friendship, or relationship, with God, to feel His love for us and show our love for him. All state in life vocations have a special mission different from the others. Hand out activity materials. Now we will read a little about someone s life and decide which category that person goes in: We will decide if these people developed their relationship with God by [read column headings from the handout.] Give 2 class examples provided in the Teacher Examples of Vocations, or come up with other local examples. Have students complete the activity. Correct aloud. Elicit from students the particular calls within each state in life vocation (such as priest, deacon, bishop), and that Ordained is only men. Elicit that all are baptized. Then have students cross out People who in each column heading and write in the headings provided on the Teacher Answer Key. Closure Students copy definition onto the back of their Warm-up Sheet. Discuss the definition. ~7-10 minutes 2010 The Vocation Tree, Inc.
