BAPTISM HOLY EUCHARIST We become a child of God, and original sin is removed. Jesus becomes present to us in Holy Communion. CONFIRMATION We confirm that we want to be united to Jesus and receive God s grace.

2 Focus on the Sacraments of Healing These sacraments heal us from sin or give us strength in illness. RECONCILIATION ANOINTING OF THE SICK When we are truly sorry, God forgives us of our sins. God pours out His grace to us when we are sick or weak. Focus on the Sacraments of Servitude These sacraments call people to serve God and each other. HOLY ORDERS MARRIAGE Men are called to serve God and His holy Church. A man, a woman, and God are united together in love.

[Baptism] - The Baptism of Christ by Giorgio Vasari ( ) Jesus, Himself, is baptized by John the Baptist on the banks of the River Jordan. He establishes the Sacrament of Baptism by His own example. John admits that he baptizes with water, but the one who comes after him, Jesus, will baptize with the Holy Spirit. [Holy Eucharist] - The Last Supper by Juan De Juanes (1560) Jesus establishes the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper. We are reminded of this sacred event during the Holy Mass at the Consecration. The Eucharist is the memorial of Christ s sacrifice. [Confirmation] - The Pentecost by Jean Restout (1732) Jesus informs the Apostles that He will send the Holy Spirit to help them take His message of love, hope and faith to the world. The Holy Spirit descends on them as tongues of fire. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Holy Spirit pours out His gifts to those who choose to complete their baptism in Christ. [Reconciliation] - Christ and the Penitent Sinners by Peter Paul Rubens ( ) Jesus gives us many examples of His ability to forgive sins. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the priest is acting as an agent of Christ. When we humbly approach God with sincerity and sorrow for our sins, He will forgive us. [Anointing of the Sick] - The Miracle of Christ Healing the Blind by El Greco (1577) As part of His public ministry, Jesus healed many people. He provided these miracles to increase our faith in God, show the power of His Father in heaven, as well as to bring strength and comfort to the suffering. [Marriage] - The Marriage of the Virgin by Raphael (1504) The marriage of Mary and Joseph established them as obedient and the Holy Family. They are the example of the important union between a man, a woman, and God. They illustrate the vocational call for couples to care for each other and to procreate. [Holy Orders] - Washing of the Apostles Feet by Giovanni Agostino Da Lodi (1500) Jesus institutes the priesthood at the Last Supper. He gives authority to men to serve the Church.
