Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.... Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. (John 6:27,35) All of us have been looking forward to the annual church picnic, which is one of the major fund-raising and social events of the year. I take this opportunity to thank the organizers and the many volunteers, who have made today possible as well as all who have come from near and far to enjoy the good food and company. It is incumbent upon us Christians to always remember those less fortunate than us. Today we are taking up a special collection during the Divine Liturgy and will be encouraging donations during the picnic to assist our brothers and sisters, who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Please be generous. I am always so pleased to see so many Armenians and friends coming together to meet each other and partake of traditional Armenian cuisine and music. However, I want to take this opportunity to remind all who have been baptized in the Muron infused saving waters of the Armenian Apostolic Church, that we have an ongoing invitation to receive the essential spiritual food, that is the Bread of Life that comes to us every Sunday through the sacrament of Holy Communion.

2 Just as our bodies require food to remain healthy and strong, even more so we need the spiritual food that comes through our reception of Holy Communion on a regular basis. I pray that this day be an occasion for many to recommit themselves to receiving regularly the life-giving sacrament of Holy Communion, which we confess to be the actual presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We must, of course, be properly disposed by leading lives of prayer, scripture reading, fasting, penance, forgiveness, humility and kindness. Participating in the Divine Liturgy: Please follow the prayers and hymns of the Divine Liturgy in the books provided in the pews. 3 the upper left and right sides of the main altar. Please sing along with any of the hymns which the choir is singing. Confession and Holy Communion: Those who are prepared to receive Holy Communion may kneel in the center aisle or remain standing at their pew for the group recitation of the confession (p ). After the absolution please proceed via the central aisle towards the altar in an orderly manner. Two Parish Council members will be present to assist. I give you thanks, my Lord and my God, and I bless and glorify your holy name, you, who have preserved me, your undeserving and sinful servant, from all dangers and temptations during this night. You have brought me peacefully to this morning hour, and made me worthy to see the light of your mercy. And now I ask you, my Lord and my God: protect me also during this day by your mighty hand, and save me from all dangerous occurrences, from visible and invisible enemies and from all thoughts, words and deeds that lead to sin. Keep my steps straight, so that any sin may not take control of me. Lead me in good thoughts, true words, and constructive deeds that are conducive to blamelessness. Watch over and guide your fallible servant in all of my steps, save me from the scandal of the demon at noon, (Ps. 91:6) and direct the work of my hands and grant my works and body and lead me in peace, without sin and temptation, to the evening hour. Please show your respect to our holy sanctuary and to your fellow worshippers Collection for Hurricane Katrina Relief Today we will conduct an additional plate collection to assist in the Katrina relief effort. Funds collected will be forwarded to the Diocese of the Armenian Church. According to the Primate s latest directive, 50% of the funds will be given to the National Council of Churches for general assistance and 50% of the funds will be used to assist displaced Louisiana Armenians. Please visit the Diocese s website for further information: We have been in contact with the Rhode Island Council of Churches concerning assistance to families who have come to Rhode Island for refuge. As soon as we receive further information on how to help, the community will be notified Please notify the Church Office to request Hayr Soorp to make a hospital visitation. Prayers for the Sick: During the prayers of the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant priest remembers the sick. We invite parishioners to request silent prayers for sick family members and friends. Please call the church office to request names of the ill to be listed in the Sunday bulletin. Names will only be listed by request of the sick person or family member. Church Etiquette: We kindly remind the faithful that the sanctuary is a holy place and that the sanctity of God s house is be respected. The faithful are requested to dress conservatively and to refrain from gum chewing. (Crossing of legs is considered improper in the Armenian Church.) Our great purpose in entering the church is to pray and worship our heavenly Father.
