2 A Message from Father David Musings from Lent and Easters before I remember when Stations of the Cross with benediction was a very popular devotion throughout the whole Country. Only the older altar servers got to assist at the Holy Week Services, but when I was in sixth grade I got to serve at all three. I never felt more proud, my whole life. At one Easter Vigil at St. Rose in Proctor, MN someone had the bright idea to do a slide show with commentary instead of reading the Scripture for the Mass. Most little girls and some ladies would wear hats to Easter Sunday Mass. White gloves too! Listening to Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen s talks on the Passion of the Christ during those holy hours of Noon to 3pm on Good Friday. Mom and the gang picking Dad up at Diamond Tool on Good Friday for those hours from Noon to 3pm. And watching only one other man leave the plant with Dad, out of all those men. Giving up Television (year after year after year) and how it would kill me. We played a lot of cards and read more books and waited for Saturday night, Midnight to watch the Midnight Movie with Dad on PBS. Fishsticks in hotdog buns on Friday. Dad singing the Alleluia Chorus from Handel s Messiah to his most prized record, next to Pavarotti. Thinking that after you colored the eggs they turned to chocolate. Being very disappointed. Not being very good at finding my basket or caring all that much because I was never a morning person. Having my feet washed by Archbishop Roger Schweitz at the Cathedral in Duluth, MN The nerves I had before doing the Easter Vigil by myself in Cloquet, MN at Queen of Peace. Carrying that 120lb cross for the first time in Aurora, MN on Good Friday at Holy Rosary. Baptism by immersion in the sky-blue colored cattle feeder, here at. No matter the temperature or weather conditions, Easter Joy always dominates Easter Sunday. I hope as we enter into this Holy Week your memories can create a fervor and a wonder and a joy that you will carry with you for years to come. More to come God bless and have a good week everyone! 3 All Parish News On Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other smaller meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection Pope Francis has asked our parishes to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. 5 Religious Education Little Gobblers Sunday School Thank you to the wonderful teachers for this year s Little Gobblers Sunday School. Kellie, Erin, Steve, Beth, Gina, Roxy and Angie, you have made a difference by sharing your teaching talents with our elementary students this year. Parents, thank you for bringing your students to Sunday School and attending Mass with your children. Students, thanks for coming to Sunday School each week and learning about the parts of the Mass. Be sure to sign up for Totus Tuus this summer and look for religious education registration for the fall. Sign up for Totus Tuus Totus Tuus is scheduled at this summer from July for our elementary students. The focus this year will be on the Sacraments and Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. Totus Tuus is a summer religious educational opportunity, you will not want to miss. Each year our students enjoy this program and want to come back. Plan to attend this year and sign up today!
