Three pamphlets will assist you in your worship: This leaflet, the Order of Service, is the most important. It contains the form of the Mass from beginning to end and will show you when to stand, kneel and sit; which hymns are appointed ( found in the Hymnal ); and the day s proper texts. The Music Brochure contains the service music. The Pew Missal contains the full text of the Mass; the first time you are likely to need it will be to recite the Creed. All page numbers are given in the Order of Service. THE FIRST READING Isaiah 66:18 21 Thus says the Lord: I know their works and their thoughts, and I am coming to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory, and I will set a sign among them. And from them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Put, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar o^, that have not heard my fame or seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. And they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an o^ering to the Lord, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Isrælites bring their cereal o^ering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. PSALM Psalm 138:1; 12; 17 19; 21 When singing simplified Anglican Chant each half-verse of the Psalm (up to, or following, the asterisk [ *]) is sung on the first note, changing to the second (black) note on the word or syllable in italics. The natural rhythm of the text is followed. Make a distinct pause at an upright [ ]. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed. Full details can be found on our website at writing to or by speaking with Pam Covert, Directress of the Flower Guild during Fellowship. 9 OUR PONTIFICAL HIGH MASS on September Second will be beautified by Palestrina s exquisite and rarely-heard six-voice Mass, TU ES PETRUS, performed by professional soloists under the direction of Mr. Michael Olbash. This is the same Mass selected for the first appearance of polyphony at our Liturgies, a year ago for Saint Gregory s Day. The cost of the music at that time (and at subsequent occurrences) was raised by parishioners and friends, and the music given by them to God and the community: the parish has never spent its funds for this purpose. Saint Gregory s Day this year is a momentous event in our community s history it is not only our Bishop s first Episcopal Visitation but also marks the conclusion of Father Liias time with our community: this will be the last of the special liturgies which have been such a feature of his Pastorate. It is entirely fitting this Mass be as beautiful and ceremonious as possible; therefore the musicians have been booked; the music will be a part of the Mass. However our life as a community is, and will be, di^erent now: it is vitally necessary we remember its new expenses and fiscal viability. Therefore in considering if you can help raise the $1,500 required for this special music possibly the last of its kind for some time it is also necessary to remember those donations must be secondary to your support of our community, proper: this beautiful music is non-essential to the life of our community; the support of our new Pastor, and many other expenses are not.
