Early Childhood Connections News ECC invites you to Christmas Blessings for ALL Monday, Dec 10 and Tuesday, Dec 11, at 12:30 p.m. in the Parish Life Center, all classes will gather to celebrate Christmas Blessings. Our intention is to help the children understand the peacefulness and meaning of the first Christmas night when Jesus was born. Mrs. Nagala will tell the Nativity story. We will bring gifts for the baby Jesus, have a blessing, and sing a song. The remembrance is simple and short. To complement our theme, we are requesting each child to bring a small baby gift that they can give to the baby Jesus. Please bring a new and unwrapped baby item or consider a special needs request from Christian Action: Children s new zipper hoodie style jackets, winter hats, and clothing 3T - 6X. Any clothing outfits or packages of pull-up disposable training pants. WE ARE INVITING PARENTS AND PARISHIONERS TO PARTICIPATE WITH US for Christmas Blessings. On Dec 10, or Dec 11, take a break from your busy schedule to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Attention All Adult Volunteers Just a reminder, the parish is making a commitment to a safe environment. All adult volunteers need to take a Virtus workshop. This includes our faithful behind-the-scenes volunteers such as bakers, telephone callers, food preparers, etc. You are the eyes of the parish and can help keep a watchful eye out for the safety our youngest members. A Virtus class will be held each month at St. B s. It s free and teaches practical skills that everyone can use. Christ s Peace, Jane Fahey LIVING STEWARDSHIP When I was growing up, my parents told me about Elvis Presley, the King of Rock 'n' Roll. He received that title from fans due to the huge effect he had on rock music. When I was a teenager, people called Michael Jackson the King of Pop. The designation was based on the fact that he had so many hits for so many years and because of his power as a live performer. The title of king carries with it a lot of weight and communicates to people that the one bearing the title is at the pinnacle of something, some people, or some reality. I sometimes even like to say that I am King of the House, but my wife can easily remind me that a true king would have servants and would not have to take out the trash by themselves. Touché! There are many kings of many things, but only one King of the Universe. If you were the king of a kingdom, all would be your subjects. In the universe, all creation bows down to this king. No other king stands above him. All belongs to Him, although much is given to each of us as gift. He gives out of love and our love for Him should cause us to use those gifts for His glory, for we are more than simple subjects. We are sons and daughters of the King. We are royalty due to the mark of Baptism. Elvis and Michael are gone. Monarchs from different eras and places have vanished. However, our King is alive and well, calling us to have full membership in His Kingdom. His name is Jesus. His Kingdom is at hand. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

David Louis Rich on November 7, 2018 Christ the King "Hail the King of the Jews." The kingship of Christ has always been different than the world expected. Many of Jesus' disciples hoped for an earthly Messiah who would overthrow the Romans. But, as Jesus says in today's Gospel, his kingdom is "not of this world." And yet it is a very real kingdom. Jesus is a very real Lord. And we are called to invite Jesus to be king of our lives. In the early 20th century, disillusionment with authority of all kinds was growing. Revolutions, atheistic thinkers, and World War I contributed to a rejection of faith. In 1925, Pope Pius XI called the Church and the world back to a sense of hope in Christ. He instituted the solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday before Advent. How is Jesus king of your life today? Question: We live in a country that upholds the separation of Church and state. What is the role of Catholics in society? Answer: The role of the Church in the world has taken different forms over time, but the theme is the same. Be disciples in it! As the lay faithful -- that is, not vowed priest or religious -- we are called to live and love in the circumstances of our daily lives. St. John Paul II wrote a document about the laity. In it he wrote, "In their situation in the world God manifests His plan and communicates to them their particular vocation of seeking the Kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and by ordering them according to the plan of God" (On the Lay Members of Christ's Faithful, 15). God wants us in the hospitals, the board rooms, the law offices, the food pantries, and the little league games! We are to engage in the affairs of the world. But when we're there, we should live the plan of God. We need to respect those around us, engage in just business and legal practices, and love our children. We should care for the earth, use our money wisely, and get to know our neighbors. We must advocate for social policies that respect human dignity and human freedom. No matter our state in life, we are invited to build the kingdom of God!
