1 TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST OCTOBER 9, 2016 ORDER OF WORSHIP Rev. Matthew Nickel The Harrells WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS MINUTE FOR MISSION MEDITATION: Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow Jan Ward, Organ Johann Pachelbel CALL TO WORSHIP: 9:30 Helen Jones /11:00 Cynthia Campbell God turns to the world with grace, Restoring the people to God, Restoring the people to one another, Restoring each of us to our communities. And the people respond with gratitude, We turn to God to give our praise. HYMN: No God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending Beach Spring CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of mercy and grace, we are meant to praise you and give our thanks always. We confess that we do not live out of that constant gratitude. We hold resentment for what we lack. We blame you, we blame others. We doubt your compassion, even your power. We struggle to give ourselves as generous expressions of gratitude and praise. Guide us to live faithful and thankful lives as those ready to receive your grace. A time of silence is kept for personal prayer. ASSURANCE OF PARDON To all who seek forgiveness, who turn to God in hope, This is God s Word of grace: We are accepted, we are forgiven, we are loved. Thanks be to God! Amen. RESPONSE TO THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON: HYMN No O My Soul, Bless Your Redeemer [Stanza 1] O my soul, bless your Redeemer, all within me bless God s name; bless the Savior, and forget not all God s mercies to proclaim. Thank you for your generosity of time in prayer.

6 FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE: It has been said that a generous church is a healthy church. The Stewardship Committee thanks you for your generosity of time, talent, energy, and financial gifts in support of the ministries of this congregation. We particularly thank members of the Session and other congregational leaders who have already said Thank You with pledges of nearly 17% of our $800,000 goal. As you receive invitations to participate in this year s stewardship campaign, we ask you to prayerfully consider your generous response. You may return your pledge by mail or by placing it in the offering plate. You may also send it by to Mike Smith, Highland s Church Business Administrator at mike.smith@hpclouisville.org. God has given us all that we are, all that we have, and all that we will become. Our pledges of financial support are an important way that we say Thank you for those many gifts.
