484 Hamilton St. Regina, SK S4R 2A7 (306) eadmcanada.com FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER 2013 #126 St. Faustina tells us, This day I take into my hands the two rays that spring from Your merciful Heart; that is the Blood and the Water; and scatter them all over the globe so that each soul may receive Your mercy and having received it may glorify it for endless ages. (Diary, 836). On Feb 22, 1931,

Dear Apostles of Divine Mercy, On February 22, it will be 82 years since our Lord chose to appear to Faustina, and ask her to paint His image. On February 13th, it is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. During the month of February we will also celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord, Feb. 2 and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, Feb 11. This month s Newsletter is entitled Will You Scatter My Message? This is the question that Jesus asked of St. Faustina, and now He is requesting this from us. Jesus encourages everyone to spread His Divine Mercy message and devotion, and promised us that Souls who spread the honor of My Mercy I shield through their entire life as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Savior. At that last hour, a soul has nothing with which to defend itself except My Mercy. Happy is the soul that during its lifetime immersed itself in the Fountain of Mercy, because justice will have no hold on it (Diary, 1075). This is an awesome promise. Mankind may never fully grasp the true meaning of these words. Christ s promise gives us the strength to continue scattering the message of the Divine Mercy to the world, by the small means that are available to us. Sometimes the challenges that we face are very many and of great difficulty, but we know that with God s help all thing are possible. We may not see the rewards of our effort in our lifetime, but that is okay, because it is the effort that God rewards. With Lent beginning, let us remember to abstinence from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, which is obligatory. The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. Fasting requires a Catholic from 18 to 59 years old to reduce the normal amount of food eaten. The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity. The fast is broken by eating between meals and by drinks, such as milk shakes, which could be considered food. Those who are sick, frail, pregnant, or nursing are excused from fast or abstinence. This month of February is the month of love. Please take the time to give someone you love, something that is going to save their souls: the image of Our Lord. by Shirley Oleskiw, EADM, Director and Editor. 3 OUR EADM CENTRE I thank the people who have come and continue to come to our Centre to pray before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament at their designated hour, in spite of the cold weather, snow, ice and storms. Outdoor maintenance of our Winter scene and snowy sidewalks has kept us very busy, especially during storms. We have completed taking inventory and reports have been submitted for our Annual General Meeting which was held after the Mass, on January 3rd. These reports are included in this Newsletter to keep you, our readers updated as to our accomplishments and events. We will have reports from myself, Shirley Oleskiw (our Apostolate Director), Leo Oleskiw (our Promotional Director), our Financial Report from our Secretary-Treasurer, Gwen Herman, and our Adoration Coordinator Janet Mazur. Once again we will also ask you to promote the image of our Lord, so that people can benefit from the graces of seeing Him and remembering His love and mercy. During Lent, take it upon yourself as a work of mercy to supply and inform friends about the image of Jesus and its many benefits. In the March Newsletter, we will share with you some of our spiritual highlights on our pilgrimage to Guadeloupe, which we took in January. I will be making two presentations on the weekend of February 9th and10th, at Olds and Trochu, Alberta. If you live in that vicinity, you are welcome to attend. Next year I will be taking another group of pilgrims to Guadalupe about the third week of January. We have a waiting list, so if you are interested in going, please put your name on the list with a non-refundable deposit of $ All seats are reserved on a first come basis. The 33 day Consecration by St. Louis De Montfort prayers begin of Feb 20th. Details are on page 14. Masses will be held on Thursdays, February 7 & 28 with pm. Page 3

EADM Report for Year of 2012 by Shirley Oleskiw, Director In 2012, we celebrated our 11th Anniversary of this Apostolate. Also April 15th marked 11th years since my healing of pain in my neck. We are still praying with great expectation, for Pope Benedict XVl, to proclaim St. Faustina the 34th Doctor of the Church. As I ponder the year, I think of all that has occurred and I sit in awe of our merciful God. We thank Archbishop Daniel Bohan, for his support over the past year. We thank Father Ben Fiore our Spiritual Director, for all his Masses, guidance and encouragement over the past year. Here at the Centre, we mourn for our dedicated priest the late Fr. Gordon Rushka, who served us in a very dedicated manner for many years and we pray for the repose of his soul. We also thank Fr. George and the other priests from Martha House, who celebrate at our Masses and who also come to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. I would like to thank all the people who have helped us in any way during the past year. The highlight of the year 2012 was the continual stream of people who have made Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament a part of their weekly lives at our Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy Centre at 484 Hamilton St. in Regina. Our hours at the Centre are:10:00 am-4:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 2:00pm-4:00 pm on weekends. We thank God for sending us Janet Mazur, who has undertaken the task of co-ordinating the Adorers. This has been a great blessings for myself personally. Our Adorers have put in over 6000 hours of Adoration in the year of Through our Shrine to St. Faustina and her relics we have witnessed many miracles in our EADM Centre. We also now have a First Class Relic of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which was given to us from the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. We continue to have our Masses on the first and last Thursday evenings of the month at 7:00 pm, and Stations of the Cross on every first Friday of the month at 4:00 pm. Our images of the Divine Mercy are very slowly being accepted in many Churches. Let us pray that when St. Faustina is proclaimed Doctor of the Church and her teaching spread throughout the Universal Church, more priests will respond to the requests that Jesus made through St. Faustina. We thank the many benefactors who have contributed to the financial support of this Centre. (Cont d on page 5) Page 4

Our offering of name plates under our image of Jesus, the Divine Mercy, have been well received. We pray for them daily and at our bi-monthly Masses. With a donation of $100.00, an engraved name plate can be requested for yourself or in memory of a loved one and will be placed under the rays of mercy. Our monthly newsletter subscriptions continue to increase in popularity. Many people write and comment on how much they enjoy the catechesis offered. A yearly donation of $25.00 includes an official receipt, and a gifted subscription. We thank Gwen and Ashley Herman for editing our newsletters. We continue to place some large billboard displays, but have changed to smaller more portable signs so that more people can see them and receive many more graces in and around our City of Regina. We had one on the ring Road, then Winnipeg St for three months, then Victoria Ave. East. Now it is located on Albert St. South. We have many complements about the billboard from passing motorists. We have also added more Highway Billboards, which our benefactors have posted along the highways throughout the province. We presently have billboards up at Fox Valley, Watson, Hanley, Ft. QuAppelle, Highway #1 West, and Highway #1 East and Churchbridge. We had to take down three billboards at Estevan, Weyburn and Dysart until we could put up our own post and frame for the billboards, which we hope to do in the spring. If you have a suitable property along the highway, or know of someone who does, please let us know, and we will put up one of these 10 X20 billboards that we have taken down. If you feel called to sponsor a portable city billboard, please call us. We give official tax receipts for all donations. Our combined Divine Mercy Sunday celebration and our 11th Annual Divine Mercy Conference was a great success. In 2013 our 12th Annual Divine Mercy Conference will be held on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7 at St. Mary s Church, 13th & Winnipeg St. Regina. The program will begin at 11:10 am with Adoration, meditations, confessions, speakers. It will conclude with Mass at 3:10. We have printed many more pamphlets, images and holy cards in the last year. We would kindly like to remind all people who use our materials have copyright on them and cannot be duplicated or used in any manner without our written permission.(cont d on page 6) Page 5

For our 2013 pilgrimage to Guadeloupe, there is a full group of 20 pilgrims. We will be offering another pilgrimage for Jan. of 2014, for the people that still wish to go. We were also able to bring back many religious objects for our promotional items. We thank our Adorers and Janet Mazur for looking after the Centre while we were away. I would like to thank all the people, who have invited me to speak and share the Divine Mercy message. I will be speaking at Old, AB at the beginning of February. It is a great privilege to be able to bring the awareness of God s mercy to His people The statutes of Our Blessed Mother as represented at apparition sites from around the world were very much appreciated by all who came to visit and pray in her Mary s Garden. During the summer, on the Feast Days of Our Blessed Mother, we walked the pathway of the Rosary, singing hymns and recited the Rosary. In November the Garden was changed to a Winter Wonderland with angels and lights. In December during Advent, an empty manger scene reminded us of our waiting for the Lord, which at Christmas became our Nativity scene. During Lent a cross with a purple cloth reminded us of our Lord s Passion and our need for repentance. Many people of all faiths have come to pray and admire our display of lights and statues. Our mission of helping the poor with our Alms for the Poor Program, has been very well received by our adorers, who share their gifts of food with poorer families. We have also been able to help other groups with their projects: such as supplying Divine Mercy holy cards and booklets, rosaries, etc. to inmates in prison. We thank the Queen of Peace Centre members who join us on Tuesday evenings for their weekly prayers at 7:00 pm in our Chapel. We would like to thank our Rosary makers for continually supplying us with Rosaries which we give to various groups and school children. We also have Rosary kits available for school children to make their own Rosaries. We thank Johannes at Yorkton-Digital for maintaining our web site, which gives us access to the world. I thank all the Board members, past and present, who have dedicated their time to the Apostolate. Our present Board members are: Fr. Ben Fiore - Spiritual Director, Shirley Oleskiw - Apostolate Director, Gwen Herman - Secretary-Treasurer, Leo Oleskiw - Promotional Director, and James Dozorec - Member at Large. Adoration Coordinator - Janet Mazur. Please pray for all our Board and committee members. Many blessings for the New Year. Sincerely and humbly in Christ, Shirley Oleskiw Page 6

Promotional Report by Leo Oleskiw Reflecting on the many graces received during the past year has made me more aware of the mercy of God. I wish you and yours the best in the year It has been a busy time with many great challenges to get new items for the Apostolate. Our assortment consists of over 500 different items from different shrines, valued over $18, They have been very well received, with annual donation sales of almost $10, This is a very important aspect of our Apostolate, as it enables us to reach out to people in many different ways. In 2012 we added our new Praying for the Sick & The Dying pamphlets, and Holy cards of St. Michael and the Stations of the Cross, and we also reprinted many images, cards and publications. Our pilgrimage to Guadeloupe gave us a unique opportunity to bring back more items, statues, and graces. Our mail order division has been very busy, filling out orders for our telephone customers. We also have a new catalogue for Respectfully submitted, Leo Oleskiw The Feast of the Presentation, Feb. 2 This feast of the Great Encounter is a celebration of centuries of confidence in things not yet realized but promised by God, salvation and complete union with God. Luke s Gospel speaks of Simeon as a just man "waiting for the Consolation of Israel" and for his personal consolation: "And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord s Christ" (Luke 2: 25-26). In response to his meeting with the Child Jesus and His most pure Mother Mary are the words of Simeon s Canticle: "Lord, now let Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word; for mine eyes have seen salvation which Thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to Thy people of Israel" (Luke2:29-32). At the time of the presentation of Jesus in the temple Mary learned from Simeon of the dreadful import of the Redemption, when he told her that a sword would pierce her heart. She took Jesus from Simeon s arms, but she already knew that the Infant did not belong to her, that He was given to her only as the Lamb Whom she had to feed and rear to be sacrificed and to become the ransom for God s adopted children, for the whole of mankind. by Shirley Oleskiw Page 8

The Image of Divine Mercy On February 22, 1931,(Diary 47, 299) St. Faustina saw a vision of Jesus with rays of mercy streaming from the area of His Heart. She saw Our Lord clothed in a white garment with His right hand raised in blessing, and said Peace be with you. He is walking because He is approaching us, for His Second Coming. He also asked to have an image painted to represent this vision and with the signature, Jesus, I trust in You! He points to His heart in which He explains that the rays mean, represent the Blood and the Water...when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the Cross. Jesus explained the rays streaming from His Heart: The pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls Using the Image of the Merciful Savior is a powerful tool in preparing our world for His Second Coming. We can explain the meaning of the Image, that Jesus is the High Priest extending His blessing of peace to the world and that He extends to us His forgiveness and His mercy. His left hand gestures to His Heart, inviting us to come to His Heart for refuge, which is the source of all mercy. His Blood is the life of our souls, and the Eucharist feeds our souls. by Shirley Oleskiw Lent: A Time for Renewal Lent gives us the opportunity to take stock of our lives, determine where we need to change and choose the sacrifices and actions which can help us grow spiritually. The purpose of Lenten Sacrifices is to purify us and make us more holy. Lenten sacrifices can help us: to identify with those suffering today, to give thanks to God for Jesus suffering, death on the Cross and for opening the gates of Heaven: to unite our suffering with the suffering of Jesus and offer our sacrifices for those in need: and for the benefit of the souls in purgatory, to strengthen our will and discipline ourselves to say no to sinful actions: to repent for our sins and receive the sacrament of reconciliation: to be free from dependence on material goods and focus on spiritual matters: and to provide a key to inner peace. Let us not waste away this precious time of Lent and repentance. Let us run to Jesus and embrace Him with repentance and love. by Shirley Oleskiw Page 9

Catechism of the Catholic Church In its very structure, the CCC follows the development of the faith right up to the great themes of daily life. On page after page, we find that what is presented here is no theory, but an encounter with a Person who lives within the Church. The profession of faith is followed by an account of sacramental life, in which Christ is present, operative and continues to build his Church. Without the liturgy and the sacraments, the profession of faith would lack efficacy, because it would lack the grace which supports Christian witness. By the same criterion, the teaching of the Catechism on the moral life acquires its full meaning if placed in relationship with faith, liturgy and prayer. 12. In this Year, then, the Catechism of the Catholic Church will serve as a tool providing real support for the faith, especially for those concerned with the formation of Christians, so crucial in our cultural context. To this end, I have invited the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, by agreement with the competent Dicasteries of the Holy See, to draw up a Note, providing the Church and individual believers with some guidelines on how to live this Year of Faith in the most effective and appropriate ways, at the service of belief and evangelization. To a greater extent than in the past, faith is now being subjected to a series of questions arising from a changed mentality which, especially today, limits the field of rational certainties to that of scientific and technological discoveries. Nevertheless, the Church has never been afraid of demonstrating that there cannot be any conflict between faith and genuine science, because both, albeit via different routes, tend towards the truth.[22] Reference: Apostolic Letter Motu-Proprio-data Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes Beginning on February 2, 2013 Prayer: Be blessed, O most pure Virgin, for having vouchsafed to manifest your shining with life, sweetness and beauty, in the Grotto of Lourdes, saying to the child, St. Bernadette: "I am the Immaculate Conception." A thousand times we congratulate you upon your Immaculate Conception. And now, O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, Comforter of the afflicted, you know our wants, our troubles, our sufferings, deign to cast upon us a look of mercy. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and physical. We come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain for us, O loving Mother, the granting of our request. (state your request) Through gratitude for your favors, we will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that we may one day share your glory. Our Lady of Lourdes, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon earth. You have the same influence now in Heaven. Pray for us; obtain for us from your Divine Son our special requests if it be His Divine Will. Amen. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Saint Bernadette, pray for us. (Cont d on page 11) Page 10

DAY ONE: O Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Lourdes, Virgin and Mother, Queen of Heaven, chosen from all eternity to be the Mother of the Eternal Word and in virtue of this title preserved from original sin, we kneel before you as did little Bernadette at Lourdes and pray with childlike trust in you that as we contemplate your glorious appearance at Lourdes, you will look with mercy on our present petition and secure for us a favorable answer to the request for which we are making this novena. (make your request) O Brilliant star of purity, Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Lourdes, glorious in your assumption, triumphant in your coronation, show unto us the mercy of the Mother of God, Virgin Mary, Queen and Mother, be our comfort, hope, strength, and consolation. Amen. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Saint Bernadette, pray for us. DAY TWO: Be blessed, O most pure Virgin, for having vouchsafed to manifest yourself shining with light, sweetness and beauty, in the Grotto of Lourdes, saying to the child Saint Bernadette: "I am the Immaculate Conception!" O Mary Immaculate, inflame our hearts with one ray of the burning love of your pure heart. Let them be consumed with love for Jesus and for you, in order that we may merit one day to enjoy your glorious eternity. O dispenser of His graces here below, take into your keeping and present to your Divine Son the petition for which we are making this novena. DAY THREE: You are all fair, O Mary, and there is in you no stain of original sin. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. O brilliant star of sanctity, as on that lovely day, upon a rough rock in Lourdes you spoke to the child Bernadette and a fountain broke from the plain earth and miracles happened and the great shrine of Lourdes began, so now I beseech you to hear our fervent prayer and do, we beseech you, grant us the petition we now so earnestly seek. DAY FOUR: O Immaculate Queen of Heaven, we your wayward, erring children, join our unworthy prayers of praise and thanksgiving to those of the angels and saints and your own. May the One, Holy, and Undivided Trinity may be glorified in heaven and on earth. Our Lady of Lourdes, as you looked down with love and mercy upon Bernadette as she prayed her Rosary in the grotto, (Cont d page 12) Page 11

look down now, we beseech you, with love and mercy upon us. From the abundance of graces granted you by your Divine Son, sweet Mother of God, give to each of us all that your motherly heart sees we need and at this moment look with special favor on the grace we seek in this novena. DAY FIVE: O Mary Immaculate, Mother of God and our Mother, from the heights of your dignity look down mercifully upon us while we, full of confidence in your unbounded goodness and confident that your Divine Son will look favorably upon any request you make of Him on our behalf, we beseech you to come to our aid and secure for us the favor we seek in this novena. DAY SIX: O glorious Mother of God, so powerful under your special title of Our Lady of Lourdes, to you we raise our hearts and hands to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the gracious Heart of Jesus all the helps and graces necessary for our spiritual and temporal welfare and for the special favor we so earnestly seek in this novena. (make your request) O Lady of Bernadette, with the stars of heaven in your hair and the roses of earth at your feet, look with compassion upon us today as you did so long ago on Bernadette in the Grotto of Lourdes. O Brilliant star of purity, Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Lourdes, glorious in your assumption, triumphant in your coronation, show unto us the mercy of the Mother of God, Virgin Mary, Queen and Mother, be our comfort, hope, strength, and consolation. Amen. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Saint Bernadette, pray for us. DAY SEVEN: O Almighty God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary did prepare a worthy dwelling place for your Son, we humbly beseech you that as we contemplate the apparition of Our Lady in the Grotto of Lourdes, we may be blessed with health of mind and body. O most gracious Mother Mary, beloved Mother of Our Lord and Redeemer, look with favor upon us as you did that day on Bernadette and intercede with Him for us that the favor we now so earnestly seek may be granted to us. (Cont d on page 13) Page 12

Amen Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Saint Bernadette, pray for us. DAY EIGHT: O Immaculate Mother of God, from heaven itself you came to appear to the little Bernadette in the rough Grotto of Lourdes! And as Bernadette knelt at your feet and the miraculous spring burst forth and as multitudes have knelt ever since before your shrine, O Mother of God, we kneel before you today to ask that in your mercy you plead with your Divine Son to grant the special favor we seek in this novena. DAY NINE: O glorious Mother of God, to you we raise our hearts and hands to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the benign Heart of Jesus all the graces necessary for our spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly for the grace of a happy death. O Mother of our Divine Lord, as we conclude this novena for the special favor we seek at this time (make your request) we feel animated with confidence that your prayers on our behalf will be graciously heard. O Mother of My Lord, through the love you bear for Jesus Christ and for the glory of His Name, hear our prayers and obtain our petitions. Give Me Trust Give me the trust of a little child, Give me its simple faith; Give the consciousness that God Will ever keep me safe. Give me the trust of the birds that sing, Sing for their Master's praise; Help me to recognize that God Keeps me through all my days Page 13

Are You Consecrated to Jesus, through Mary? It is never too late Starting date is February 20, 2013 Get your handbook today called Preparation for Total Consecration according to Saint Louis Marie de Montfort. Page 14 Consecration Formula To Jesus through Mary is the total giving of oneself according to Saint Louis de Montfort. This preparation consists of 33 days of prayer before a major feast. It consists of four different themes: 1. Spirit of the World twelve days of prayers in which you examine your conscience, pray, practice renouncement of your own will, mortification, and purity of heart. 2. Knowledge of self seven days of examination of conscience, and prayer. 3. Knowledge of Our Lady seven days of prayers and acts of love, pious affections for the Blessed Virgin and imitation of her virtues, these being, as St. Louis De Montfort says, the principal virtues of the Blessed Virgin : her profound humility, her lively faith, her blind obedience, her continual mental prayer, her mortification in all things, her surpassing purity, her ardent charity, her heroic patience, her angelic sweetness and her divine wisdom. 4. Knowledge of Christ seven days of prayers and acts of love of God, thanksgiving for the blessings of Jesus, contrition and resolution. During this period we shall apply ourselves to the study of Jesus Christ, first as the Man-God, His grace and glory and secondly His interior life, namely His virtues and the Acts of His Sacred Heart. Prayers consist of Scripture readings, prayers of the Veni Creator, Ave Maris Stella, Magnificat, Litany of the Holy Ghost, Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus, and several other prayers of Saint Louis de Montfort. The starting date of the Consecration is February 20, for completion on the Feast of the Annunciation, March 25. At the end of this period, we should go to Confession and Holy Communion with the intention of giving ourselves to Jesus Christ in the quality of slaves of love, by the hands of Mary. We should recite the Consecration Prayer after Holy Communion. We should write or sign it that day as a promise. We should pay a tribute to Jesus Christ and Our Blessed Mother either by doing penance or some good works. Once a year at least, during Lent we should renew this Consecration, observing the same practice.
