2 2 ASH WEDNESDAY 6 th March am Holy Communion with Ashing, St George s Church, Fordington 5.30pm Sung Eucharist with Ashing, St Peter s Church, High West Street 7.00pm Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes, Martinstown Church 7.00pm Solemn Eucharist with Ashing, St Mary s Church, Edward Road PRAYING TOGETHER 2019 Praying Together is a simple framework for shared daily prayer that can be used alongside other Lenten activities. It provides, for each day of Lent, a very short reading, reflection, prayer and suggested action. Praying Together can be used by individuals, groups, together in church, in schools or by the sick or housebound. The material is available in three formats: as a booklet, via an app for phone or tablet, or on the Diocesan website from where it can also be downloaded and printed. The booklets will be in each church in the weeks before Lent begins.

4 4 LENT COURSES The Bible Course new to the Bible or want to go deeper? In eight sessions, the Bible Course shows how the key books, famous characters and epic events form one BIG story from Genesis to Revelation. It also provides tools and skills what help apply the Bible to everyday life. Tuesdays at St Peter s Church Hall 10.30am-12noon starting on 19 th February / final session on 9 th April. The Long Road to Heaven by Tim Heaton - This second Lent resource from the author of The Naturalist and the Christ explores Christian understandings of salvation in a five-part study course based on the film The Way. Starring Martin Sheen as a bereaved father, this soulful and uplifting film observes a group of pilgrims walking the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela. As it follows their journey of inner transformation, the course examines biblical accounts and images of salvation past, present and future and addresses the questions: What are we saved from? What are we saved for? Who can be saved? What do we have to do to be saved? How are we saved? Thursdays at Martinstown Rectory am-12noon Starting on 7 th March /final session 11th April

5 Stations of the Cross by the Benedictine Nuns of Turvey Abbey and Compline St Mary s Church, Edward Road 6.00pm. Wednesday 13 th March Wednesday 20 th March Wednesday 27 th March Wednesday 3 rd April Wednesday 10 th April The footsteps of Christ, Journey to the Cross and Beyond. These inspired illustrations of Christ s journey to the Cross and beyond are presented to us through colour and symbol. The artist has sought to describe her inspiration for each painting with scripture references, which have been combined with meditations and prayers by Maureen Pamphilon, an oblate of the Turvey Community. The journey to the cross is the story of each person s passage from life to death to life; thus, from station to station we are led in meditation on the cross in the world today. And we must always remember that death and resurrection do not only occur when we leave this world but can and do happen in the daily situations of our lives.
