Access to On-Line giving is available through our website or through a smartphone or tablet app. Instructions for giving are located on our website or in pamphlets available at all church entrances. You may also sign up for automatic withdrawals with or without covering the small fee for transaction processing. NEW TABERNACLE VEILS Thanks to an anonymous benefactor, we will now be seeing in the church's Lady Chapel, tabernacle veils of different colors, appropriate to liturgical seasons or feast days. A purple veil is now ready for use in Advent and Lent, and a red veil is also ready for use on days when red is the prescribed color. These veils were custom made and are of elegant damask fabric. They "signal" the fact that Our Lord's true sacramental Presence is reserved in the tabernacle which they adorn, thus giving Him honor there. The white/gold veils which we inherited from the former parish will, of course, be used for "white" seasons or days of the Church's calendar.!29

PARKING ETIQUETTE Please do not park on the grass or sidewalks on the St. Paul side of the church. We are blessed with a large parking lot. Besides, a brisk walk is good for you! Also, when using the St. Paul side driveway circle, use the West side only. (the side away from the front entrance), so as to leave a passageway for emergency vehicles and to keep the steps and ramp accessible. Courtesy and consideration make for good parking etiquette. Thank you! FAITH FORMATION We are in the planning phases of our course offerings for the Fall and have a few exciting opportunities we would like to offer you on top of our regular options: Preschool: With so many young children filling our pews on a week to week basis we want to offer parents the opportunity to have their children attend our classes and have the basic tenets of our Faith that are taught at home reinforced in a group setting. Children will be introduced to a bible story and it will be followed by a craft to reinforce the concept. High School: We have obtained solid, orthodox materials to continue instruction after Confirmation has concluded. If you would like your son or daughter to gain a deeper understanding of the chief truths of our Faith and enjoy good conversation about the perils they face on a daily basis in a secularized culture, please consider signing up! The sooner we have signups for these offerings the sooner we can move forward with different elements of implementation. 4 Q What does "unity," and what does "trinity" mean? A. "Unity" means being one, and "trinity" means three-fold or three in one. Q Can we find an example to fully illustrate the mystery of the Blessed Trinity? A. We cannot find an example to fully illustrate the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, because the mysteries of our holy religion are beyond comparison. Q Is there but one God? A. Yes; there is but one God. Q&A FROM THE CATECHISM Q Why can there be but one God? A. There can be but one God because God, being supreme and infinite, cannot have an equal. Q What does "supreme" mean? A. "Supreme" means the highest in authority; also the most excellent or greatest possible in anything. Thus in all things God is supreme, and in the Church the Pope is supreme. Q When are two persons said to be equal? A. Two persons are said to be equal when one is in no way greater than or inferior to the other. Q How many persons are there in God? A. In God there are three Divine persons, really distinct, and equal in all things --the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.!31

5 Q What do "divine" and "distinct" mean? A. "Divine" means pertaining to God, and "distinct" means separate; that is, not confounded or mixed with any other thing. Q Is the Father God? A. The Father is God and the first Person of the Blessed Trinity. Q. 189 Is the Son God? A. The Son is God and the second Person of the Blessed Trinity. Q Is the Holy Ghost God? A. The Holy Ghost is God and the third Person of the Blessed Trinity. A REQUEST FOR HELP We are asking any and all parents of Faith Formation to bring their children to a clean up day on the 2nd floor of the parish center before our classes start in September. We are proud of the fact that our program is free, and it is becoming more clear to me that we are one of the few, if not the only program that is still free. We hope, therefore, that as many families as possible can come on Saturday, September 1st at 4 PM. Bring whatever cleaning supplies you have and help us vacuum, clean windows and bathrooms, and dust. CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD We are very excited to announce that our newest faith formation program, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, will begin in October! We will meet every Saturday (except during school breaks) from 9am-11am in our prepared environment, called the ATRIUM. This Montessori model of catechesis allows us to bring Jesus deepest truths to our youngest children. Our certified Level I catechist has been trained to introduce the essentials of our faith in hands-on, 1:1 presentations; and to assist the Holy Spirit in helping the child fall in!32

6 love with Jesus and to be able to participate more fully in the Mass. We invite parents of all 3 and 4 year olds to prayerfully consider this wonderful opportunity. Or perhaps you are simply "interested" in what Catholic life is all about. He will discuss the mission of the Ordinariate as a source of ecumenical unity for our Episcopalian and Anglican brothers and sisters, liturgical enrichment for our Catholic Church, and evangelization for all baptized Christians.!34

8 The second event will be a Pontifical Mass with Bishop Lopes and Bishop Matano (in English) on Sunday, August 26, at St. Cecilia Church at 11:30 AM. The Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter is a non-geographic diocese created by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI to help Episcopalians and Anglicans to enter full communion with the Catholic Church. The Ordinariate form of worship is a living branch of the Roman Rite and owes much of its history to the ancient Sarum Rite and the Cranmerian reforms of the Book of Common Prayer. The liturgy is distinct in that it uses Elizabethan English and emphasizes a more poetic formulation of the prayers. The priest assigned to the local Ordiniariate group here (The Fellowship of St. Alban) is Father Evan Simington, who also has pastoral duties as Parochial Vicar of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish. We wish him and his fellowship God's blessing. COMMUNITY PICNIC - UPDATE Plans for the Annual SKT-Latin Mass Community Picnic are underway. On Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Exempts Club at 690 Thomas Avenue, we will be enjoying an afternoon of food, fun and fellowship together once again The main course will be provided as before, but consider putting on your chef's jacket and bring a salad, snack, side dish or dessert to share. (You are allowed to keep your recipes secret, if you wish!) Soft drinks will be provided along with a cash bar inside the Exempt Club building. Or, just come and enjoy the company of your fellow LMC members. We look forward to making new acquaintances as well! As we have done in the past, we are making the Community aware of financial needs above and beyond normal to request that you consider an additional gift to our life here at St. Thomas the Apostle Church and Parish Center. 9 LATE SUMMER DAYS...can be beautiful, and they can also be warm. In warm weather, we need to dress respectfully and modestly when attending Holy Mass, thus showing respect for God and neighbor. Short pants or short skirts; tank tops or halter tops; strapless, tight fitting and revealing outfits---are not appropriate. THANK YOU, in advance, for your courtesy and cooperation. GROUNDS MAINTENANCE INITIATIVE We have initiated a new approach to the grounds cleanup, which is very much needed as soon as possible. Rather than an all-out single day event for clean-up, a new approach is being initiated to maintain our grounds consistently and with minimal effort. The church and parish center grounds have been sectioned into 24 parcels. Individuals can figuratively own a selected parcel, which they maintain on a regular basis. The intent is to have each section maintainable, by one or two people, with a reasonable amount of effort, on their own schedule. Multiple individuals can coordinate to maintain one or more sections. Individuals are not responsible for grass cutting. Volunteers are needed for the remaining sections. For more information, please contact: Lou Gabello, (home) or (mobile). While the 3 teams of counters for the English Mass can meet every three weeks, the 2 Latin Mass teams are still looking for 3-4 more volunteers to help create a third team to help them out. Diocesan policies prohibit related individuals from participating on the same team, however they can be on separate teams. Please contact either Fr. 12 HELPING OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED Each Sunday throughout the year, SKT-LMC collects donations of non-perishable food items for local food cupboards, for the purpose of alleviating hunger caused by poverty in our area. The need is very real, even though we may not see it close-up. Donations may be placed in the green baskets in each of the church vestibules. FACILITIES ACCESS PERSON Do you need to access the church or parish center for an important reason? Who to call? Lou Gabello has agreed to be "the one to call." His contact information will be printed regularly in this bulletin on the SKT-LMC CONTACTS page (near the back of bulletin). RELIGIOUS PAMPHLETS AND BOOKLETS Each entrance-way to the church now has a number of religious pamphlets and booklets in the book racks. These items are being supplied, thanks to a generous donation by one of our members. Please feel free to take any material that is of interest. Please note that nothing should be placed on the book racks or on the bulletin boards without first obtaining permission from Father Bonsignore. 13 BEQUESTS TO REMEMBER THE SKT-LMC IN YOUR WILL, should be used to direct a monetary bequest (2 options): the following phraseology 1) I give and bequest the sum of $ to St. Kateri Tekakwitha -Latin Mass Community for its general purposes (or for a specific named program ). OR 2) I give and bequest % of the remainder of my estate after all debts, taxes, expenses and family bequests have been paid, to St. Kateri Tekakwitha-Latin Mass Community for its general purposes (or for a specific named program ). In order to have a constant vigil of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, we must make sure that each hour is covered. Day and night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because of His infinite love for you. Jesus asks you to spend one quiet hour with Him each week. Fr. We could also use more people to join the list of 35 substitute adorers. Vacations and illness affect the availability of the substitutes. You can indicate what day and hour you would be available. Perhaps those of you who make drop in visits might consider being a substitute adorer. Scheduled adorers: should you ever need a substitute, please try contacting someone who has the same hour, but a different day, to exchange hours for that week. 14 CHURCH ETIQUETTE WHEN YOU COME TO CHURCH, please turn OFF all cell phones, hand-held electronic devices, pagers, watch alarms, etc., and anything else that can disrupt our sacred time with God. It is possible for messaging and texting to wait until later! DRESS CODE: Please remember to dress appropriately for divine worship: neatly and modestly. Holy Mass is not an occasion when we "dress down" or appear "super-casual"! REVERENCE for God and RESPECT for neighbor should determine what we wear. Think about it. Thank you for your cooperation. THERE ARE (AT LEAST) THREE REASONS to maintain a prayerful, quiet atmosphere in the church proper before and after services: (1) RESPECT for the House of God, (2) REVERENCE for the Blessed Sacrament, and (3) REGARD for those who want to pray in peace. The guiding principle should be DEVOTION NOT COMMOTION. Please carry on your friendly conversations in the church vestibules (with inside doors closed), outside, or at the coffee hours. Reverence and friendliness can and should co-exist in their proper settings!! SPEAKING OF CHURCH ETIQUETTE......We should make a determined effort to be on time for Mass, and we should make the little sacrifice to stay until Mass is over (that is, when the priest-celebrant leaves the sanctuary). When it becomes necessary to conduct children to the bathroom, please do not travel through the church during the CONSECRATION of the Mass. This will involve only a few moments of delay.
