3 MESSAGE FROM THE BAPTISTRY Dear Parishioners - It s now two years since we first placed plants around the Baptistry to transform what was initially a somewhat grey area into something beautiful and life giving, a fitting symbol to enhance the place where new life begins in baptism. We thank you for your appreciation, and it s always lovely to see the reaction of visitors when they see the plants and understand their purpose for being there. During the time Sacred Heart was placed on the Heritage list and we had visitors from all over Melbourne come over on one particular weekend to view our buildings, it was a joy to see people s reaction when they saw the plants surrounding the baptismal area. We realized then more than ever that in this significant space the visual display of God s beauty in creation is also a way of sharing and building faith together. We are aware that Scripture reminds us that we need to constantly look into our hearts to see what gifts we are called to share with others. Many offer their time and love for this parish, and now here is yet another way: caring for the plants around the Baptistry. So - A SPECIAL THANK YOU to our new Volunteers: MARIA BOWDITCH and CAROL KOPER. Please give them your appreciation and support. This program is FREE and you can sign up here: Call for more info Twelve-year-old Thandolwayo would walk seven kilometres each day, threatened by crocodiles, to collect contaminated water for her family. It looked like she would never realise her hope of finishing her education and becoming a nurse, until a Caritas Australia-supported project created access to clean water helping Thandolwayo to stay at school and achieve a future full of hope. Senior s and Luncheon On Thursday 14th March there will be a Senior s at 10.30am, followed by a light lunch in the Dining Room. Please donate to Project Compassion 2019 to provide access to clean water and a future full of hope for vulnerable communities in Zimbabwe. Catenian Invitation: Come and join other Catholic men from nearby parishes for dinner and an evening of fellowship at a local restaurant with function room privacy on Wednesday March 20 th 6.45pm onwards. 5 Dear friends, This week the lifting of the suppression order concerning Cardinal George Pell s trial and the sustained media focus has made for a challenging time for the Catholic Church in Melbourne. We will all have different ways of both responding to this news and making sense of it. For some it heralds another chapter in the already painful journey that Catholics have been a part of over the last few years. Some of us may feel upset and saddened by the news. Some of us may just feel very weary about the way our Church is being portrayed in the media. There are those in our community who have been abused and the story touches on and may re-open already raw wounds. On this the last Sunday prior to Lent we gather around the table of the Lord. We pray that God will continue to journey with us as we search to understand, accept and acknowledge the challenges of our times. We hold in our thoughts and prayers all those who have suffered abuse within the Church. Please Note: Printed copy of a letter from Most Rev. Peter A.
