10 Friends Ilaasi of St. Herman Seminary What is Ilaasi? Ilaasi, Friends of St. Herman Seminary began in the mid-1970's to compliment the financial support for St. Herman Seminary. The word "Ilaasi" was adapted from the Alutiiq word "ILA- PUT", meaning "our friends"; the plural of the Alutiiq word is "ILACI", which means "your [plural] friends". Mission The mission of St. Herman Seminary is to train native ns to serve the Orthodox Christians within the Russian Orthodox as clergy, deacons, monastics and choir directors within the Russian Orthodox Sitka, Anchorage and. The majority of the 34 priests and 10 deacons serving the 92 parishes in are St. Herman Seminary graduates. Curriculum St. Herman Seminary provides students with a curriculum in four, one-year modules, plus a fifth year of practical liturgical experience. The curriculum includes Mission and Evangelism, Dogmatic/Pastoral Theology, Liturgics, Patristics and Biblical Studies. Seminary graduates receive a Theological Diploma. Ilaasi donations for 2004 supported a computer lab and purchased library software for cataloging and circulation in the Seminary library, which holds many items that are archival in nature and valuable to researchers, worldwide. Ilaasi donations for 2005: Ilaasi donations for 2005 will be channeled to the seminary library, the foundation of national and state reaccreditation. Fundraising under Ilaasi, Friends of St. Herman's provides the opportunity for all Orthodox Christians to assist with the seminary's financial needs.
