4 Parish News Χριστός Ανέστη - Christ is Risen It is the day of Resurrection! All Nations, let us be jubilant! For this Pascha is the Passover of the Lord Christ Our God has passed us over from death to life and from earth to heaven; We who sing to Him triumphant praise. (Ode 1 Tone 1) Father Gregory, President Jim Folopoulos and the board would like to thank all of you who joined us in reliving and celebrating the Passion, Death, Burial and Resurrection of our Lord. All those who came experienced the journey of our Lord which was filled with faith, joy, love and sadness. But the sadness was short lived. After the Cross, follows the Resurrection. Our God and Savior Jesus Christ defeated death, granting to all of us eternal life. In preparation for Easter there is always a lot of work to be done. Thank you to everyone who helped cleaning our church, decorating the icons and the church with flowers; decorating the Epitaphios, baked tsourekia and everyone who brought and dyed red eggs. We would also like to thank our chanter and our choir for adorning our services with their voices. Last, but not least, a huge thank you to our youth and their parents for helping through Holy Week, especially those who decorated the small Epitaphios, our altar boys and our beautiful myrrh bearers on Holy Friday. Parish Council On May 8 th the Parish Council will be hosting the Mother s Day Breakfast. Everyone is welcomed to attend. Please join us as one big family as we honor our beautiful mothers. The monthly Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday, May 9 th at 7 PM. 9 th Annual Spring Dance Our Annual Spring Dance will be held on Sunday, May 29 th at the Executive Court Banquet Facility from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Reserve your tickets by May 22 nd. Due to limited seating capacity, we cannot guarantee that additional tickets will be available at the door. We would like to invite everyone to join us for an evening filled with good fun, fellowship, and lots of dancing! 5 Philoptochos News Christos Anesti! Christ is Risen! Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who gave of their time, talent, and treasure during Great Lent. This includes those who helped with the preparation and clean-up for the fellowship hours we had following the Presanctified Liturgies and Salutations to the Virgin Mary; those who helped bake the tsourekia; and those who assisted with the flower arrangements and the decoration of the Epitaphio. We also thank everyone who donated money to purchase the flowers. The next Philoptochos Board meeting will be held Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. Lucie Skouteris President ΤΑ ΝΕΑ ΤΗΣ ΦΙΛΟΠΤΩΧΟΥ Χριστός Ανέστη! Θέλω να ευχαριστήσω με όλη μου την καρδιά, όσους και όσες έδωσαν τον χρόνο τους, το ταλέντο τους και συνείσφεραν οικονομικά στα Σαρακοστιανά γεύματα που κάναμε τις Τετάρτες και τις Παρασκευές μετά από τις Προηγιασμένες Θείες Λειτουργίες και τους Χαιρετισμούς. Επίσης, ευχαριστώ θερμά όλους και όλες που μας βοήθησαν να φτιάξουμε τα Πασχαλινά τσουρέκια, να στολίσουμε τον Επιτάφιο και την εκκλησία μας, καθώς και εκεινους που μας ενίσχυσαν στην αγορά των λουλουδιών. Youth Ministry News ATTENTION ALL Class of 2016 HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE GRADUATES If you or a family member is a Class of 2016 High School, College or Post-Graduate student, please contact Janet in the church office at weekdays between 9:00am-2:00pm and give us your information (i.e. full name, school name, degree, future intentions). All graduates will be recognized and presented with a small token of Congratulations on Sunday, June 12th. The presentations will be held in church immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We hope all graduates and their families will attend! If the graduate cannot be present, a family member is asked to accept on their behalf. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR GRADUATES...WISHING YOU A BLESSED FUTURE! YOUTH MINISTRY FUNDRAISER - JEWELRY RAFFLE & FRAPPE SALE- Sunday, May 8th On Sunday, May 8th, our GOYAns will be selling delicious Frappe's and our youth ministry children will be raffling off 2 beautiful pieces of jewelry during our Mother's Day Brunch. We hope everyone will support our Youth Ministry in these fundraising efforts. Come and enjoy a lovely brunch sponsored by our Parish Council in honor of all our parish ladies! GOYA MEETING - THURSDAY, MAY 12th There will be a GOYA meeting in the school building at 4:30 pm. We hope all GOYAns will make every effort to attend! BUSINESS CARD ADVERTISING Anyone with a business that would like to advertise in our monthly bulletin, please contact the Church office. A business card format, about 2 ½ x 1 ½ will run for a period of 12 months for one set fee of $ a year. This will help to defray the ever-increasing costs of printing and mailing these bulletins to our homes as well as advertising your business to our parishioners and through word of mouth, to their friends. 9 GREEKFEST 2016 CALLING ALL PARISHONERS!!! Our 2016 GreekFest will be held on Saturday August 27 th and Sunday August 28 th. Festival hours: Saturday 11am to 10 pm; Sunday 11 am-7 pm. Putting this event together is a massive undertaking requiring 100 volunteers each hour the festival is open! This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we need your help! Many of you have worked for years to make this event a success. But, we need more help and new blood to renew our energies. Please don t be shy! We welcome your assistance, ideas and time. The following are specific needs we have at the moment. Please call if you can do something or know a source for us to pursue. Right now we are in need of: Donations of all kinds including: monetary, supplies, food, beverage supplies; your time and talents. Donations of money and/or prizes for the Penny Sale Table. Cooks to join the women of the Philoptochos on designated days to prepare specific Greek foods prior to the Festival. Anything else you can think of. Sounds like a lot of work and it certainly is, but the more help we have, the fewer hours each one of us needs to work! This is a great way to meet new people! It is a lot of fun and a very gratifying way to give back to the Church. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE ALREADY HARD AT WORK ON FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES!
