Jesus has come to give us life through His sacrificial love, that we call Agape. Have a look at some of these verses: John 3: 16 - For God so loved the world that He gave us His Only Son. John 10:10 - I have come that they may have life in its fullness. John 15:13 - There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. Romans 5:8 - But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 1 John 3:16 - By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 1 John 4: Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God... because God is love. Whoever loves God must also love his brother True love is possible only if I can sacrifice or die to self The love mentioned by Jesus is self-sacrificing. Too often we love others because we want them to love us back. But God loved us while we were his enemies. Humans can t do that naturally. God tells us to forgive others 70 times 7 times, we can t do that either. Love is a fruit of the Spirit; again, humans cannot muster that up on their own. Yet we are commanded to do so regardless. How??? There is only one way. Death to self. If any man does not pick up his cross daily, and follow me, he cannot be my disciple (Luke 9:23). Daily death to our own promotion for the sake of others is the key to forgiveness and sacrificial love. If I am dead to self, I will prefer others better than myself. If I am dead to self, I will not be offended by others taking advantage of me, thus can forgive countless times. Only when I am dead to my selfish interests can I allow God s Love to flow through me to use my resources to meet the needs of the people around me. This kind of love can only come from God. This kind of love costs us everything. When we compare this kind of love to our love, we can easily see the obvious differences, and that s how man s idea of love falls short of God s standard of love and glory. May God teach us His true sacrificial love, and grant us the gift of loving selflessly. Fr. Look upon me with mercy. When you appeared in the grotto of Lourdes, you made it a privileged sanctuary where you dispense your favors, and where many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. My loving Mother, obtain my request. I will try to imitate your virtues so that I may one day share your company and bless you in eternity. Amen. 2

Ashes will be distributed at 7.00 P.M Holy Qurbana. * This Year s Lenten Retreat will be on March , Friday evening to Sunday Noon. Preacher: Rev. Dr. Sebastian Kuttiyani (P.O.C. Cochin) SMCC GENERAL BODY MEETING SMCC will be conducting a general body meeting on Sunday, February 12th 2017 at 9:30 A.M in Chavara Hall. All SMCC members are requested to attend the meeting. YEAR OF YOUTH For this year, Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath declared 2017 as the "Year of Youth." This is an year-long celebration and callto-action for youth from every Syro Malabar Church across the country. The following are initiatives taken on by our Syro youth as they partake in the Year of Youth celebration: 1. Students from Marquette and Carol University organized together and volunteered at the Feeding America organization in Milwaukee, WI. Packaged food will be served to the less fortunate as a way to give back to the community. 2. Students at the University of Illinois have scheduled weekly hangouts to attend mass together and spend time in fellowship and faith. 3. CML is hosting a Canned Food Drive from February 5th to April 9th an Year of Youth service initiative. All items will go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository that feeds the hungry in Chicago every single day! )- Marriage Preparation Course (Pre-Cana) The next Pre-Cana course hosted by our diocese will be held at Casa Italia Retreat Center, 3800 Division Street, Stone Park, Illinois. Dates and time: From 3:30 PM, March 24, through 2:00 PM, March 26, 2017 (Friday - Sunday). As this course is mandatory for all youth preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony, all young men and women are encouraged to attend this course. REGULAR FRIDAY SERVICES: Every Friday we will One is at 7pm in our main church and an another one is at 7pm in our daily have Holy Qurbana at 7pm in Malayalam in our main church chapel in English for children and youths followed by adoration (for adults followed by adoration from 8pm to 9pm. 8pm-6am), and (children and youth 8pm-12am). 3

4 Inauguration Invitation We thank the Lord and all of you, as we happily inform you that after two years planning and discussions, we have finally completed the arrangements, to begin an extension of our Cathedral Parish at Our Lady of the Brook Catholic Church, 3700 Dundee Road, North Brook, IL Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, will inaugurate this extension in North Brook officially, with the celebration of the solemn Holy Qurbana on Sunday, 19 th February, at 5.00 pm, followed by a reception. We would like to cordially invite all of you to this celebration. Please consider this as an invitation to all of you, and your friends and well-wishers, from near and far to join us, and grace this occasion to receive the blessings of the Lord. Let us raise our hearts in gratitude to the good Lord, for His innumerable blessings, as we open this new extension for the better pastoral care of our Syro-Malabar Catholics. May God bless and reward you, and make you see the church grow and bear many fruits, for our community through your efforts and initiatives. COVENANTS REGARDING USE. Revocability. Licensor may immediately revoke this License at any time and for any reason upon written notice to Licensee. In connection with its Use, Licensee agrees, for itself and its volunteers, contractors, agents, officers, directors, employees and/or invitees ( Licensee Group ) to comply with all reasonable rules and regulations that Licensor may from time to time make and to observe the following covenants at all times when on or around Licensor s Property: A. Licensor s Real Property. Licensee Group shall not enter areas of Licensor s Property other than those areas specifically allowed pursuant to the Use hereunder unless Licensee obtains the prior written consent of Licensor or the pastor or administrator who oversees operations at Licensor s Property ( Pastor ). Licensee shall take all measures necessary to prevent Licensee Group from entering areas of Licensor s Property other than those areas specifically allowed pursuant to the Use hereunder. B. Licensor s Personal Property. Licensee shall not use personal property of Licensor without obtaining the prior written consent of Licensor except for the tables, chairs and kitchen equipment (except for stove) currently located in the areas authorized for the Use; provided, however, that all such personal property authorized for use by Licensor is hereby provided to Licensee in as-is, where-located condition without warranties of any kind. C. Impermissible Behaviors. In connection with its Use, Licensee shall not permit any of the following at or around any portion of Licensor s Property: i) Use, possession, and/or concealment of a firearm/destructive device or other weapon; ii) Consumption, possession, exhibition, sale or offer for sale of any alcoholic or intoxicating beverages; iii) Use, possession, and/or concealment of illegal substances; iv) Aggravated assault; v) Trespassing; vi) False activation of a fire alarm; vii) Assault; viii) Vandalism or criminal damage to property; ix) Fighting; x) Disorderly conduct or disruptive behavior around Licensor s Property; xi) Use of tobacco products; xii) Profane or other improper language; and xiii) Any criminal behavior not specifically described above. D. I. Security of Persons and Property. Licensee shall be fully responsible for securing all portions of Licensor s Property connected with the Use, as well as any personal property and/or persons within such area. If reasonably necessary, Licensee shall hire adequate security personnel to monitor and regulate Licensee Group behavior and compliance with all of Licensee s covenants herein. E. Animals. Licensee shall not permit animals other than service animals on any portion of Licensor s Property. F. Waste. Licensee shall not cause or permit any waste, misuse or neglect of the water, gas or electric fixtures or mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Licensee shall be responsible for damages resulting from waste, misuse or neglect, including damages arising from unauthorized changes to the thermostat or leaving windows open when the heating system is on. 4
