Print Full Name: Signature: Introduction Welcome to the Assignment Book for Introduction to Worship in the Uniting Church in Australia. Please write your name on the front cover of this and your workbook as soon as you receive them. This Assignment Book contains information on the assessment that is needed for participants in the unit to demonstrate competency in planning worship in the UCA. The unit acts as an introduction to the rest of the Living Our Faith series. Each course contains practical tasks that will require participants to be familiar with Uniting in Worship 2, the authorised descriptor of Uniting Church services. This introductory unit is offered in one day over five sessions, with the final session devoted to completing the tasks in this book. If you are able to finish the tasks before the end of the day, you can hand in your book to the coordinator of the course. Alternatively, you can take this and the workbook home and complete the tasks after the course finishes, but within four weeks of the day of the course. 4 Units of Competency Introduction to Worship in the Uniting Church in Australia is one of five units offered by UME, which together provide the necessary educational component for those seeking accreditation as Lay Preachers within the Uniting Church in Australia. The course is also open to any interested lay person to attend, complete all the assessment tasks, and gain a Certificate of Completion. By the end of the workshop, you will: Have a basic knowledge of how the Uniting Church understands worship. Understand the value and importance of Inclusive Language. Understand and apply the movements that make up the Order of Service for the Lord s Day in UiW2 within your individual and the wider church context. Understand the privilege and responsibilities of using Ordered Liberty and apply the principles of Ordered Liberty to an Order of Service. Have knowledge of the variety of prayers and where they fit within UiW2 Liturgy. Be able to use a variety of resources to write/adapt a prayer for use in public worship. 4

5 Assessment Task Your assessment for the completion of this course, is producing a plan for a service of Worship. You should refer to the notes you have made in your workbook in crafting each of the sections that are described in UiW2. Remember to acknowledge your source if you use other people s work. You will need to write entries for each of the following: 1.
