5 Hospitality Sunday - 25th November: What is it? On Hospitality Sunday we give and receive hospitality by having lunch together after the Sunday Service in our homes in small groups (4-10 people). This is a great way to get to know each other better and have lots of fun. How does it work? We need people to host and people to be guests! If you feel you are able to provide a meal for 4-10 people then sign up to be a host or if you would prefer to have a meal cooked for you then sign up to be a guest. I will then match up the hosts with the guests. If you are willing to host then make sure you write down how many guests you can cater for. There are now sign up sheets at the back of church. Rachel Short House Group news and a new name The next meeting of those seeking the Living Waters is on Monday 19 th November at No. 63 Jubilee Close at 10.30am. This will be followed by a discussion about the Eucharist and what it is and then sharing what it means to us individually. Please do come along and as usual let me know so Allan and I can arrange seating and catering. 6 Angels S.O.S. We need someone to fill a gap in our washing-up rota (ish) on alternate Wednesdays in term-time. The remaining dates this term are November 7, 21; December 5, 19. Please speak to me if you can help. Alison Gregory Cuppa and Cake: Thank you to everyone who came to or contributed to our Cuppa and Cake morning last week. We made just over 160 which was a splendid result and means we can purchase packs of Helpful books for children for five schools. Alison Gregory The Children's Society: Just a reminder from Avril Harrison that she would like Box Holders to kindly return their donations either to her, Tel: or to the Church, this month of November. Thank you so much. Pool Cottage: The Church will be holding a service of Holy Communion at Pool Cottage next Tuesday, 6th November at 3pm. All are invited to come along and support the Clergy and residents. Cake bakers needed: It is that time of the year again the Autumn Fair is on the horizon and one of the bestselling items at the event are cakes and we never have too many. If you can bake a cake for the stall or even two it would be absolutely great. Cakes can be brought to the Assembly Rooms on Saturday 17th November before 10am wrapped ready for sale. I know what excellent cake bakers we have in the congregation so please use your talents for this very worthy cause: Melbourne Church. And he will destroy on this mountain 7

8 the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death for ever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. The Gospel Reading: John When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. He said, Where have you laid him? They said to him, Lord, come and see. Jesus began to weep. So the Jews said, See how he loved him! But some of them said, Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying? Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead for four days. Jesus said to her, Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God? So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upwards and said, Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me. When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come out! The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, Unbind him, and let him go. Additional Collect: God of holiness, your glory is proclaimed in every age: as we rejoice in the faith of your saints, inspire us to follow their example with boldness and joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 8
