2 +GATHERING+ WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (stand) Jesus our brother, we confess that we sin in our thoughts, our words, our actions. Though the needy and marginalized cry out, we take the easy way, we cross to the other side forgetting who our neighbors are forgetting who we are called to serve. Forgive us our sin, our apathy, our judgment, our hardened hearts. Open our eyes, that we might see you as you truly are: our help, our guide our love. Amen God who is full of mercy and grace came to this earth that we might come to see and know who our God is. God came, that the sins of all might be forgiven and that all might receive new life. In the name of Jesus Christ, I proclaim this good news: You are forgiven all your sins You are set free from all that holds you down. May you see God with new eyes. Amen. 2

How slow we are to follow your example. Turn our hearts toward all who are considered outcast, shunned, and unclean so that we may love our neighbor without pity or apathy, for the sake of the one who became flesh to cleanse the world of sin and death forever, Jesus Christ our redeemer. Amen. +WORD+ Gospel Reading Luke 10: Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he said, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? What do you read there?" He answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live." But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. 3

4 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, 'Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.' Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?" He said, "The one who showed him mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise." Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her." Lenten Services: Our Midweek Lenten services will begin Wednesday, March 8th, at 6:00pm. This year, we will be holding a contemplative prayer service, with no meal beforehand, in hopes to better accommodate people's schedules. Our Midweek services will include the Holden Evening Service and a time for prayer at the foot of the cross or other prayer stations. Please let Pr. Mission Planning Meeting NEXT Sunday, March 12 th : Due to Pr. Katie being gone on bereavement leave this week, we will be moving the Mission Planning meeting to Sunday, March 12 th, after worship. Scholarships Available: Seniors who are interested in applying for the Grace Lutheran Scholarship may pick up an application form in the church office or on our website. Applications must be completed and returned the church office by April 10 th. Families or individuals who are planning to attend summer camp at Camp Hiawatha or Camp Vermilion and are interested in applying for a Camper Scholarship may pick up an application form in the church office or on our website. 11 Keep Warm! Keep Warm! is a program that gives winter clothing to any VCC student who has a need. Last year alone, Keep Warm! provided boots to 50 students. Through monetary donations, Keep Warm! is able to purchase boots, hats, and gloves from Ely Surplus. (Coats are gathered through donation only.) Keep Warm! is a way for us to connect with VCC students and build relationships to show them that we truly care. Please consider donating (men s coats are the biggest need!) to this worthy program. Grant Monies Available to Thrivent Members: Did you know that as a Thrivent member you can access up to $500 per year (two grants for a maximum of $250 each) to be used for certain eligible projects in our church or in your community? It s a simple application process, and you find out very quickly whether or not your project is approved. For more information on other projects that have been funded and to access the application, go online and watch a brief video, or call Thrivent at and ask about Thrivent Action Teams. Use Them or Lose Them! Attention Thrivent Members if you have any 2016 Thrivent Choice dollars left to direct to Grace or other eligible organizations, you must do so by March 31, 2017 or those dollars will no longer be available for you to decide where they are donated. Questions? Ask Mary Lou Blasing , visit or call and when prompted, say Thrivent Choice. Last year, Grace Lutheran received $5,526 through this program. Thank you to all the Thrivent Members who continue to support our church by directing their Choice dollars! Brick Order Deadline: Another brick order will be placed on April 1 for bricks to be installed this summer. Info sheets and order forms can be found on the counter in the outer office. Monies from this fundraiser will go into the Fellowship Hall Fund. If you have any questions, please contact BJ Kobierski or Sue Flesvig.
