4 St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Silver Spring, MD Saints and Special Observances Sunday: Third Sunday of Advent Saturday: St. John of Kanty Thursday: St. Peter Canisius; Winter begins SJE SCHOOL NEWS Wednesday is the last day of school in After classes in the morning, the children will have parties and a dance to celebrate the coming Christmas vacation. We will end the year with an all-school gathering to have our muchanticipated Christmas raffle, sing carols, pray together, and wish each other a happy and blessed Christmas. We wish the same to our SJE community and friends. REJOICE Isaiah proclaims truly good news to us! God s coming brings not sadness, guilt, fear, wrath, or condemnation. No, God s coming is a source of comfort and joy. Saying it once is not enough, for today s readings are full of joy. Mary s Magnificat substitutes for our psalm today, and our second reading encourages us to rejoice, to give thanks and praise. This is the root meaning of the Greek word for eucharist. We are urged to rejoice and give thanks, because the coming of the Lord brings joy, healing, liberty, release, vindication. It makes the very earth spring up with new life! Good tidings! Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Lectors. The Ministry of Lector is rooted in the power of the Word of God. Prayerful proclamation of Scripture makes the presence of God alive in our midst, stirs hearts, challenges, comforts and moves the community to work for the Kingdom of God. Those who serve as lectors agree to make the Word of God an integral part of their lives by entering in regular study and prayer of Scripture. If you feel called to join the Lector Ministry, please contact Father Calis at frjcalis@aol.com or call the Parish Office at Christmas Tree Sales. Who? Boy Scouts. What?
