Check in at the 4 star deluxe Ramada Palaza Miracle Hotel one of the best properties in town. Day04 Guiyang - Kaili After breakfast, scenic coach ride takes you to the country side. Enjoy views of numerous lush limestone mountains rising in the endless rice terraces extended to the horizon. Passing unspoiled villages and markets, the drive is certainly among the most memorable. Upon arrival check in at the 4 star deluxe Grand Dragon Hotel. Fascinating excursion takes you to the Qingman Village home to the Miao ethnic minority tribes. Miao s history dates back to 4000 years ago during the legendary fight between Yellow Emperor and Chiyou - a local tribal chief. It is believed that Miaos are the descendants of Chiyou s defeated troops. They are mountain dwellers who built unique shaped wooden structures on stilts with balustrades. A large Miao village often contains over 1000 families, with dwellings in overlapping rows and lines, covering an entire mountain slope. Rarely visited by outsiders, Miaos are among the most hospitable ethnics groups. You will be welcomed by village women dressed in their ceremonial bests, wearing beautiful gaily embroidered silk costumes and spectacular silver headdresses and ornaments, glistening and jingling pleasantly whenever they move. Each guests are invited to taste the home made house wine and are entertained in the Bronze Drum Square by colorful ethnic music & dances. Especially worth note is the traditional Lusheng a unique Bamboo pipe with hollow sounds the largest ones frequently will be played by the most respected elders. Through Orient Odyssey s exclusive People to People Contact program, you will enjoy a leisurely stroll on a scenic trail amidst the beautiful rice fields to a primary school and the tribal / village leaders house, where you can chat and mingle with farmers, their households members, students & teachers - even to observe a class in session. They might not have much material procession, but their lives are simple, their hearts are pure and their happiness, love of life, and their hospitality are genuine. You are greeted with wine, song and dance everywhere you go. Feast your eyes with the unique and colorful ethnic costumes and fill your heart with the warmness of the genuine hospitality from tribal members & their children. *Based on local weather, road condition and logistic, you might visit different ethnic minority tribal villages other than mentioned in above itinerary. All of them feature spectacular costumes, welcome ceremonies, music and dances, and heart warming hospitality. School visits & observing class in session might not always be possible as it must depend on school schedules. We don t want to interrupt local children s education too much. Many of them have to climb two mountains on bare foot to reach the school. Day05 Kaili - Anshun Enjoy a magnificent drive through deep mountain valleys lined with multi level rice terraces, rivers & lush green peaks. You return to Guiyang and continue on for Anshun. Enjoy special local flavor lunch Sour Fish Soup and other delicacies! Highlight of the day will be a visit, or literarily a stroll back in time to the Sky Dragon Station Fortress - Tianlong Tunbao inside the fortress, the residents all wear strange long blue robes and speak a distinctive language unlike any others. The fortress was established in Ming Dynasty (around 1413) when the imperial court sent an army here to control the indigenous people. These soldiers, originally from central and eastern China, settled and flourished in their ever expanding fortress. Gradually locked off from the outside society, after 17 to 18 generations, they unintentionally but meticulously maintained a 600 years old tradition of culture, dresses, architecture, arts, & life styles! When first discovered, historians were shocked to see an ancient Ming Dynasty village breathing and living with every possible details. All houses were made with stone the walls, door frames and windows are all stone slabs, the roofs are thin and flat stone tiles. You will stroll the

3 winding cobble stone alleys that cleverly connect each and every household. The highlight will be the Ground Opera Performance the living fossil of an ancient performing art only preserved here. It can be traced back thousands of years to military rituals aimed at ensuring victory by boosting the soldier s morale to fright the enemy. During the performance actors tie embroidered war costumes around their waists, set fighting flags at their back, cover their face with a black veil. On top of their foreheads are wooden masks decorated with pheasant feathers. No where else in the world you can hear such exiting drum beat, the clear high pitch melodies and the fancy fighting postures of a nearly lost ancient art form. Late afternoon check in at the 4 star deluxe Grand Waterfall Hotel. Evening is free for you to explore or rest at own leisure. B/SL/D Day06 Anshun Huangguoshu Water Fall - Guiyang The epic highlight today is the tour of the magnificent Huangguoshu Water Fall Asia s largest with a height of 250 feet and a width of 280 feet. The river of Baishui fumes and foams as it leaps out of the mountain into the giant fractures where it breaks into five columns, tumbling down vertically with a deafening din! Upon hitting the bottom of the cliff it sends up geysers of droplets that thicken the dense fog already present - a rainbow often appears amidst of the vapor. Get closer to the action and hike to the Water Curtain Cave behind the falls - the cave, a 134 meters long corridor, has six naturally formed windows through which the grand fall can be watched, heard and touched! Listening to the thundering voice, stretching your hands out to touch the colossal columns of the cascading water will become some of your most unforgettable experience! After lunch, enjoy a spectacular drive into the lush green mountain valleys to explore the Dragon Palace an amazing underground river that threads its way through 20 mountains and many caves of varying sizes. Board a small wooden sampan and nose your way on a zigzagging water lane, sometimes entering a gigantic cave with its ceiling filled with stalactites hanging over your head; sometimes entering the lane so narrow that your boat can barely pass. Savor the quiet and serene experience, only the dripping water and the oars disturb the peace. Now and then the echoes of an ethnic folklore sang by your boat handler lingers for a long time Today s program ends at a Buyi minority tribal village a rarely visited picture perfect valley, surrounded by lush rice fields extending to the horizon. Walking along a long corridor covered with unique architecture, you might hear a Buyi ethnic love song echoing in the fields and mountains. Return to Guiyang tonight and check in at the 4 star deluxe Ramada Plaza Miracle Hotel. When seen from a distance, the vast area of jagged stones dotted with green trees and colorful flowers presents the look of a unique forest. Viewed up close, the oddly shaped rocks seem to take on a life of its own. Loosen your imagination to give life and breathe to these unforgettable rock formations.
