4 4 TERROR by L. Ron STALKS Hubbard I was alerted into an analysis of why we 're fought by comments from an organization executive. An analysis shows there may have been many reasons but a further look makes them invalid. A peircing scream against Dianetics arose before the first book was published in Press was hot against it before the first foundation was formed. For seven months before there was any personnel or personal troubles publicised, the bulk of articles against Dianetics had already appe~red. At one time three national magazines were simultaneously on the stands screaming in lead articles about Dianetics and myself - and this was five months before any "divorce" publicity. And amongst the hundreds of reporters and commentators who screamed only one ever talked to me, and, from various evidences, none had read the book or knew anything about the subject. Until May, 1950 I received only favorable publicity - on expeditions or ccrrilings or goings. In May 1950 there was a concerted shriek from people who '(a) had not read the books and (b) who knew nothing bad about me. These howls came from both conservative and liberal groups alike -' the AMA - The CommIes, the Socialists-:-the Roman Catholic s. Thus we can rule the following facts out of all the protests and "bad publicity" of the past eleven years: 1. That it stems from any knowledge of the subject; 2. That it is a concerted effort by anyone group; and 3. That it is based on any knowledge of myself. Now if we look further we also find these facts: 4. In the past eleven years, some thousands of texts have been written on the subject of philosophy, Man, the mind in various universities; 5. In the past eleven years thousands of men, not connected with universities or groups have originated and forwarded philosophies about Man; Thus, with all these targets no protest has been made by groups or press against new philosophies. And now let us look further: 6. Many truly dangerous practices have risen up amongst men such as a new Indian ver sian of whirling dervishism. now rampant in England; 7. Brainwashing was introduced in the past eleven years by the Russians; 8. A dozen violent and harmful psychiatric treatments have been developed.

" Looking at all these things, then it would seem that protests against Dianetics and Scientology do not stem from a knowledge of myself, they do not stem from a knowledge of the substance of the work, they do not stem from conservative or liberal groups and they are not a protest against philosophy, philosophers, or evil practices, and they are not an effort to protect the public. If you look this over with cold dispassion, examine it thoroughly frotn the light of the facts, only one explaination seems to remain. They are terrified of our postulate s! This analysis places a fantastic dissemination weapon in our hands. The terror in the protest is obvious since it is misemotional and is not based on confronted facts. To any attack by anyone, we can reply, "Why are you terrified of Scientology? II or "Why are you afraid of Hubbard? II or tjwhy are you frightened of Scientologists? II For plainly this is the case. People don't even know we reach for witholds - yet terror! Protest! Screams! Now I'll admit to having plied philosophy before within the whole track memory of Earth dwellers. Harm did not result. But evil was destroyed. And admit that evil men sense the germs of their own destruction. There may be unconscious recognition in this. Maybe its the Fourth Dynamic bank that yells back. But, of this we irecertain. We inspire terror in some men. "Why are you terrified of Scientology?" is the best answer. It as-ises the condition. I think we ought to use it. "In the original equations of Dianetics, when the research was was yowlg, it was believed that survival could be envisioned in personal terms alone and still answer all conditions. A theory is only as good as it works o And it works as well as it explains observed data and predicts new material which will be found, in fact,toexist. Survival in personal terms was computed until the whole activity of Man could be theoretically explained in terms of self alone. The logic looked fairly valid. But then it was applied to the world. Something was wrong: it did not solve problems. In fact, the theory of survival in personal terms alone was so unworkable that it left a majority of behavior phenomena unexplained. But it could be computed and it still looked good. Then it was that a nearly intuitive idea occurred. Man's understanding developed in ratio to his recognition of his brotherhood with the Universe. Self-determinism, applied, will create, alter, conserve and possibly destroy universes. The action cycle is one of the abilities of a thetan. An action cycle goes from to O. 0 on the tone scale. An action cycle is the creation, growth, conservation, decay and death or destruction of energy and matter in a space. Action cycles produce time.

11 SCIENTOLOGISTS WRITE: 11 I entered the HCA course with the idea of processing my five little grandaughters informally, in the summers when they visit me on my California ranch; and to use the principles of Scientology in my everyday life. Then, when I was being audited in the HGC, I admired my auditor and her smooth auditing so m.uch, that I thought I might possibly audit professionally - she made it seem like such a natural, easy thing to do. My last weeks on the course again, made me really sure that lid like to become a profe'ssional auditor. Some success in student co-auditing clinched the matter for me - I was for auditing, and auditing was for me. Under Scientology i have gained a greater importance to myself, and 1 1 m able to like myself better than I have for years past.. Hester Parsons I have since 1955 had occassional preclears for processing and who paid for it. Most of these were teen-agers who were interested in increasing their ability to do better work in school and without exception I have been able to help them accomplish their goals. One of these, a boy, came to me last summer. He was flunking his school work and associating with the wrong groups and had become an incorrigible person to get along with. This last year he made a straight A average and challenged two other courses which he passed by exam. He created quite a lot of interest and comments in the school and won two complete four year scholarships. He attributes it to his processing and is very happy about it. His parents feel the same wayo Ted R. Best I asked my thirteen year old preclear, at the end of his twenty-five hour intensive, to write up a history of his case. I did this partly to get his own reality on his achievements and partly to assemble Borne case histories. Enclosed is his report. I find it remarkable, but no more so than Jimmy is himself. First, the before. Since I had entered GoimtryDay in 1956 I had been breezing along, leading the class grades-wise, somewhere around boredom on the tone scale. Running change or pre-hav buttons as themselves probably would have been faster, however, you can't criticize an auditor who's made a clear! L o R~N HUBBARD. Here is the text of John Kennedy's letter: Well the big news here is that I have made a CLEAR in a 50 hour intensive, I mean CLEAR too. He has been Clear 14 days now and there is no sign of slipping back in spite of a tremendous lot of confusion -that has been blowing off amongst his family, friends and at work. He came to me for 50 hours with a great deal of INNOCENCE and in lousy shape. He was one of the most miserable people live known (and by the way I've known an awful lot of miserable people). His graph had only the D column just about the line - the rest were all below with bags of manics. I sat him down and just audited him. I didn't use a process for 20 hours to start - 2 way corom and with engram running also locks and secondary - by the way the two way coroming was against the buttons on the Pre-Have Scale. I then got his terminal as per Goals SOP and Bang! he was clear. He did not have a goal to be "clear"; the word didn't mean a thing as he was very raw but what change - this bloke was transformed from complete misery to fantastic state of happiness and ability. His now abilities scared the living daylights out of him and as he approached 'Clear' things got pretty wild at times. He works in an organization here with about ZOO other people. The whole place went into a 'tiz I when this bloke went back to work after 14 days a completely different bloke. I haven't got enough paper to tell you all about the effects he created but I can tell you they were all big and caused quite a stir. A Message to People Interested in Learning How to Use Scientology in the Best Possible Way. Sometimes, it seems that it takes more than one or two communications to have people KNOW that something good is available. To a worl! of people who have for the most part openly or secretly given up hope of improvement, one must assume that this is the case. Can it be that you yourself have to some degree gone into agreement with this attitude? The world as a whole long since gave up striving for real improvement. Revolutions today are not even real revolutions to strike off the yoke of the enslaver. They are "revolutions" to welcome back the slavemaster and the exploiter of human beings. Such is the level of degradation of self that most of the hutnan race is in today. Not all, we know. You have reached for help, for recovery, for a better life. (Continued on page 15)

14 14 (Continued from page 11) About this purpose. Since I was about six, I have known that I have a purpose. I didn It know what, at that time, but I knew I had one. I also knew that, because of this purpose, everything that happened, for me, to me or with me, I caused. This great feeling of cause was the main reason that I was as high as I was on the tone scale, and why I did so well at most everything I did. Well, everything was going along fine, around boredom, until I entered the seventh grade. Finally, I was up against some kids who had at least as much tone as I did, and I finally had a class that was hard (Mr. Grimes social class). Gosh! I shot down to grief quite quickly, and then down to apathy. About that time Mr. Grimes stepped in, and before I knew it, I was on a regular schedule of short sessions. Even though my study halls were cut down by about 500/0, my grades started to soar, and for the first time I got some decent tone and began to like school. After a while of processing I began to realize what my purpose was. If all goes well, as it should, I expect to start some sort of auditors school. I have not mocked up where, but that can wait for now. Since one of my goals is to become an auditor, Mr. Grimes started running me on the TRs, and the day after tomorrow I start auditing one of my fellow classmates. Now, after my intensive has drawn to a close, and I am beginning to settle out, I can feel the real changes that have come about in me because of Scientology. My tone in everything is just short of serene. I've started some really good games, and I now have direction in my life,. Oh yes, about that feeling of cause that I used to have, multiply it 100 times and that's less than the cause I feel now. There are other things that are different now, such as the fact that I have everything, but I think that the greatest thing that I have gained is that now I am really here. In closing now I would like to express my appreciation for Scientology, which has given me the most valuable gift in the world - myseu. Jim Crawford. 15 (Continued from page 13) It seems, though, that you are sometimes disheartened, feeling maybe that you can It do very much about the staggering immensity of the ills of Mankind. But see, improvement starts with one person. A group, a nation, a world is unimprovable if you only look at the whole instead of the parts. The freeing of Man from bondage begins with one person. Then one other person. Then another. -- You can free yourself - by getting Clear or at least released. You can free another by auditing him or her. And then another. That is the path to a sane and workable freedom. If one person in the whole wide.world has been set free, the slavery in the human race in the bulk has numbered days. Dictatorship, whether it be the dicatorship of the commisars or of the reactive mind cannot survive long the presence of just one free being. Look at this statement again. A dictatatorship cannot tolerate the presence of freedom. First it tries to enslave that which is free. Failing this, it attempts to kill it. Failing that, it may attempt to attack it covertly under the guise of "alliance". That failing, it will try to avoid the free being. Then, still failing to eliminate the free one, it will rapidly collapse in on itself, trying to buy off the presence of the f~ee, then, vainly seeking its sympathy and as a last ditch resort attempting to prove itself totally not dangerous to that which is free. Then it dies and that is that. One Clear in China today would bring down in utter and complete defeat the entire "monolithic" totalitarianism of Chinese communism. Perhaps at this point some of this message is getting to you. Your way to help Man is surely quite plain. It is to be free yourself and to help others to be free. Think how difficult to the enslavers of Man have been even the un-clear seekers of freedom. It has been many a long century since despotism has enjoyed unrestricted sway. A Clear is a pretty hard-to-kill being. Even a released human is hard to bring under the "control tl of a despot. A Clear is under no disadvantage of aberration. He can think too fast for an aberree, even in the bulk, to really put him at effect. Before the aberrated enslaver knew it, the Clear would be controlling him. This would tend to cramp his style, to say the least. -- Freedom starts with one person~ That person might just as well be you. -- Get processed to the state of Clear or at least Release. Both are stable levels: Clear takes somewhat longer than release. Get trained to release and Clear others. Make this your program for this life, whatever else you do. We'll help you.
