1 Be Your Best (BYB) Total Healing Commendations The following summaries are from people who have used BYB materials and BYB Total Healing in their journey from pain and bondage into healing, freedom and wholeness by the power and grace of God. Commendations Since beginning Christian counseling in 1989, I have used effective materials to bring God s truth to people. I have found, however, that follow-up is needed throughout life. The BYB Total Healing materials offer excellent tools to accomplish that follow-up and compliment counseling and other approaches. I especially like the Daily 7 R s and the Living 7 R s as life tools. These tools are concrete, easily used and result in measurable improvement. My clients grow in healthy independence and life-management skills. The personal application and healthy life-style building journey helps everyone completing BYB Total Healing to move into the full richness and freedom of life that Christ offers us. BYB Total Healing and the Choosing Freedom Bible study materials are versatile they can be used with individuals, couples, families and groups. There is enough material to keep a good pace and build an effective, Christ-focused foundation or to take more time and dig deeper into personal needs and issues. These are very interactive and experiential tools that promote renewing our minds and living God s truth. The second patient I saw today, things weren t making sense. 5 There was much chaos in my life and at the age of twelve I began drinking beer, smoking cigarettes and marijuana. I had sporadically experienced the peace and reality of God but mostly I felt emptiness, which I filled with alcohol, drugs and men. I didn t realize then that the chaos, confusion and destruction, caused by others and by my own choices, were allowing demonic control in my life. When God lead me to BYB Total Healing, I knew right away that God was calling me to heal. One thing that the Lord taught me was that healing is a PROCESS. The changes in my life are so significant. God transformed my history of physical and sexual abuse and addictions through the work and the support I received through CHOOSING Freedom and the BYB work. Dealing with my own, personal problems first has allowed me to recognize and exercise healthy boundaries and have healthy relationships. I am now a much more effective, healthier support to others. This is the only way, for me, to really be FREE of bondage and destructive patterns! By going through the BYB Total Healing approach and in contact with healthy, mature support, I can be the person God intended me to be and fully develop and use the gifts and calling He has waiting for me. Our Lord Jesus is faithful and sufficient beyond what I can ask or imagine. But the transformation that God did in my life through Be Your Best (BYB) Total Healing was nothing short of a new life. The BYB Trail Guide led me from my isolation and misconceptions it was like light was beginning to flood my heart! Then Bonnie walked me through the Scripture, expressing the heart of God to me in a way I had never heard. Jesus, His heart for me, and His passion to rescue me it all became real to me, nearly tangible at times. I shed old, hurtful beliefs that had been guiding my life, lies that the enemy and life-experiences had seeded deep in my heart. Yes, it was painful at times but it was a healing pain, so to speak, which lead to freedom. My wounds, deep and profound, began to mend. In a short time, I went from an isolated, fearful, traumatized heart, to one that looks forward to the sunrise in the morning, who speaks openly and desires to share God s hope and heart with other wounded, hurting individuals a passionate person who lives in hope and joy. I actually walk in freedom, for the first time in my life, and I know the love of my Father. My two youngest children still at home can t believe what has transpired in me, and they are now also beginning to walk in this healing and transformation themselves. I am watching them grow and flourish in ways I could have only dared to hope. As we attend the Choosing Freedom class as a family, we are able to share in healing and hope. God used Be Your Best Total Healing and the BYB Trail Guides to unite my heart, spirit, mind and body in His truth and healing. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you finally, verses like this make sense to me, as I am experiencing them! The years of trauma and wounding are being replaced now with an indescribable freedom and joy, which gives me confidence to face whatever is yet to come in my journey, as I know the heart of my Father for me. Thank you, from the heart. Kim Elizabeth, CO Have you ever met someone who has been raised from the dead? Let me introduce myself! My name is Hope, and, of course, I wasn t literally dead. However, mentally and spiritually, I was in the grave. Buried alive, just waiting impatiently for my physical body to join the rest of me in death. My

6 depression and pain caused me to ask God for death even though I wasn t even sure He existed. I felt hopeless and suicidal. Relationships and events from my childhood had led me to believe and live lies about myself that I was unlovable and worthless, an inconvenience and an embarrassment to myself and others, fundamentally and unrecoverable flawed. Since I had been hurt and in an attempt to alleviate my pain, I gave myself permission to do anything I thought would make me feel better. Morality and sinfulness were not considerations so I heaped guilt and shame on top of my original injuries. While going through my second divorce, my Father in Heaven reached out from eternity, got my attention, and I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. In a long process of healing and recovery, He gently and compassionately drew me to Himself, providing what I needed at every step. When I began the Choosing Freedom Bible study and BYB Total Healing, I was still deep in isolation and depression, suffering from doubt and experiencing no joy or security in my salvation. I hadn t been attending church for several years and was losing my faith. By working with my trained mentor, I have come to a place I would never have believed possible. Through Choosing Freedom and the BYB program, I have realized that my God truly cares about me and is actively involved in my life. Through Him (using the CF & BYB tools and Biblical teaching), I have received healing, which psychiatrists, counselors, and Twelve Step work over the course of 35 years could not provide. Jesus is leading me out of the depression and isolation that have plagued me since childhood. I am beginning to feel the joy of my salvation for the first time, and He is leading me into areas of service that I couldn t have imagined. BYB Total Healing depends on the power of the Holy Spirit to guide the healing process. Together, we have torn down many of the painful barriers which blocked my awareness of my Heavenly Father s love for me, and my faith is growing. As that happens, I am experiencing even more supernatural healing only possible through Jesus. In short, I m in the process of becoming the person God created me to be. My BYB work has greatly improved my relationships with my wife, children and other people. Although we only did a few small sections of Choosing Freedom book, I learned about how we are following a map whether we are aware of it or not and I want to follow God s map. Choosing Freedom made me very conscious of the places and people I need to avoid to stay on the path God has for me. I now accept Jesus as the only way and I m not going to let anyone or anything stand in my path. I ve made so many bad choices in my life, I d need a book to tell you of them all, but that s why I m in prison now. After answering questions in the Choosing Freedom book, I realize that the person standing in my way wasn t another person but it was me. Another thing I learned is something so simple, I don t know why I wasn t aware of it until I read Choosing Freedom. It s that I can lean on God for physical stamina and strength, emotional and mental strength to overcome pain, anger, resentment, confusion, tension and irritation. He will help me overcome my tendency to be offended by others, help me through illness and best of all, Jesus will help me reverse negative thinking about myself, others and circumstances. I like how Choosing Freedom showed me how to question myself instead of trudging along in pain or turmoil. Now I can stop, ask how I m feeling and take it to God and He will lift me up. Don t get me wrong, I still struggle with problems and painful feelings, but not for long because the Holy Spirit reminds me of what I ve been taught and at those moments I am filled with joy, relief and peace. Thank you for the powerful prayers in Choosing Freedom and for helping me and other inmates to know that we matter to you and to God. I ve enjoyed all of the lessons and I ve been able to apply each one we worked through, in some sort of life situation, on a day-to-day basis. I learned that the good times end at times but as Christians, we can bound back with our Savior. I take a look at life in a different way through a set of God s eyes. 8 When I began learning about the spiritual realm, I was 75 years old. Life presented pain and problems, but I just thought I had to deal with problems and unhappy situations on my own. I prayed mostly for others and didn t think about putting personal situations immediately into God s hands. In using BYB Total Healing, I have recognized influences of the flesh, the world and the enemy and I am able to stand well in the battle without fear. Learning more of who I am in Christ has been a wonderful journey for me and it will go on through life. In short, I have given up making judgements using the wisdom of the world. We are under spiritual attack in this world and we must wear the full armor of God. I enjoyed what we got to cover in Choosing Freedom and I look forward to continuing the study when I am released from prison. While we were going through the Choosing Freedom Bible study, it hit home in many areas and aspects that are typically overlooked, such as: 1) working out our salvation and 2) which map am I following? Breaking these things down and then presenting them as Choosing Freedom does, allows for a better understanding and therefore a better result. My favorite section so far is still the Spiritual Maturity. After going over this, I don t feel like I m a continuous failure. Now I feel not so abnormal! For complete healing, the roots of my pain and wounds needed to be addressed. My goal has been to be a free, fully functioning, joy-filled adult. In working through BYB Total Healing, I am able to recognize and deal with lies from the enemy, and choose God s truth and victory. Now I have tools, like the 7 Rs and the BYB 1 st Aid Kit that are practical, helpful and easy to use for the challenges of life. The goal to remember the 7 Rs when praying in the authority of Jesus victory is helped by the people supporting me and the bookmarks. My husband, Stan and I have three children and a ministry called Unbridled Acts. The tools and principles in BYB Total Healing bring healing, freedom, joy, love, and abundant LIFE! - Karen - Minneapolis, MN I don t know if everyone goes through such battles to find victorious life, but I took a long, hard road to get here. My childhood was broken and painful and I didn t meet my father until I was nine years old. The hope of knowing him ended when he was killed in a car accident two weeks later. Through years of abuse, I found safety and a touch of God through my grandmother. I accepted Jesus at age 10 but didn t know how to walk the walk. As an adult, I continued to be surrounded by abusive men and my hopes for a normal family life drove me to marry the wrong man twice. In 2003, I rededicated my life

10 to Christ and began BYB Total Healing materials. In using the BYB materials, with eyes on God and the support of godly friends, I found that the only source of hope and comfort is in my only Lord and Savior, Jesus. Now, my relationship with God is deeper, my prayers are more passionate, and I see God answering my prayers. I see life more clearly and I have practical tools to help me stand in the battle. Now when I pray, I am not so focused on what God can do for me, but how I can serve Him better. - René - Parker, CO When I first heard about the Choosing Freedom small group Bible study, I was attracted to the title. I wanted more freedom for my children and this is what the Lord had put on my heart. As I began to work through the material, I realized that I had several issues that had not been fully dealt with in my own life. After 23 years of marriage, my husband left our four children and me. I thought I had healed from those wounds until, through BYB Total Healing, I found that there was far more healing and freedom that God had for me. The Holy Spirit has led me through the entire process and the Lord is doing a work in me beyond what I could ever ask or think total victory in circumstances that had crippled me in the past. I praise God for the opportunity to participate in this work. What I have learned is invaluable as I continue my Christian walk. I can be transparent with my trained mentor and I can trust her. My walk with God has been growing since the day I accepted Christ as my Savior and I have learned that I cannot put all my hope and trust into people. When working the Release and Forgive Worksheets, my mentor has stayed consistent in letting God do the transformation. She asks good questions, making me aware of the lies I believe and allowing me to receive what I need to hear from the Word of God. This has affected my everyday life even when I am not working on it, one-to-one, with her. I now live my ordinary life with a sense of peace because I know I have tools to abolish my strongholds and hold my thoughts obedient to Christ. Every now and then I find myself wallowing in my sorrows and indulging in my lies, but thanks to the BYB work, I remember that I do not have to feel stuck in those thoughts any longer. Each time I engage in this work with my mentor, I am shown the truth. I know that the human wisdom and strength it took to create such an approach as BYB Total Healing was not from human strength or wisdom at all, but it was straight from the Holy Spirit dwelling within the human soul. It is a continual blessing to know the extent of possibilities there are when you recognize your options, make a choice to change your life and your internal responses, and take the initiative to clean out your life-basket of overwhelming junk.
