Shri Parashar is a scientist who has retired from Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi. During his career he has published several research papers, technical reports and articles. After retirement, e scientist switched to social and religious activities. On e social service field, he has held many offices of several organizations including Bharat Vikas Parishad. For Bharat Vikas Parishad, he was Founder Vice President of BVP Janak Puri (Main) Branch President, Delhi State (Sou) Chairman, Zone III National Secretary and V. Chairman of Project Samuhik Saral Vivah He is a VIKAS MITRA, and now He is a VIKAS SAMARPIT. In e Dharmik and Samajik Sangh, Delhi, he has been e Founder General Secretary. 2 Swami Vivekananda's 150 Bir Anniversary SWAMI VIVEKANANDA CHICAGO SPEECH (Chicago, Sept 11, 1893) Sisters and Broers of America, It fills my heart wi joy unspeakable to rise in response to e warm and cordial welcome which you have given us. I ank you in e name of e most ancient order of monks in e world; I ank you in e name of e moer of religions, and I ank you in e name of millions and millions of Hindu people of all classes and sects. My anks, also, to some of e speakers on is platform who, referring to e delegates from e Orient, have told you at ese men from far-off nations may well claim e honor of bearing to different lands e idea of toleration. B Block, Janakpuri Branch The Branch gave a wheelchair to polio-stricken Reshma on 12 February, 2012 at Shri Shiv Shakti Sanatan Dharm Mandir, BA/BB Block Janakpuri in e presence of several Members. The presentation was an impromptu gift as Reshma was in dire need. 20 year old Reshma is a resident of village Paprawat (near Najafgarh). ACTIVITIES... contd. The Branch organized a Camp for Helping e Needy in collaboration wi Dharmik Avam Samajik Sangh on 22 January, 2012 in which 260 persons mainly children- benefitted. School uniforms, shoes, books and note books were distributed. Sewing Machines were given away to needy women. Our Branch contributed Rs. 15,000/- for is Camp. 6 AGING PARENTS WARNING SIGNS OF HEALTH PROBLEMS 1. Are your aging parents taking care of emselves? Pay attention to your parents' appearance. Are eir cloes clean? Do ey appear to be taking good care of emselves? Failure to keep up wi daily routines such as baing, too brushing and oer basic grooming could indicate dementia, depression or physical impairments. Also pay attention to your parents' home. Are e lights working? Is e heat on? Are e barooms clean? Is e yard overgrown? Any big changes in e way your parents do ings around e house could provide clues to eir heal. For example, neglected housework could be a sign of depression, dementia or oer concerns. 2. Are your aging parents experiencing memory loss? Everyone forgets ings from time to time. Modest memory problems are a fairly common part of aging, and sometimes medication side effects or underlying conditions contribute to memory loss. There's a difference, ough, between normal changes in memory and e type of memory loss associated wi Alzheimer's disease and oer types of dementia. Consider your aging parents. Are memory changes limited to misplaced glasses or an occasionally forgotten appointment? Or are memory changes more concerning, such as forgetting common words when speaking, getting lost in familiar neighborhoods or being unable to follow directions? If you're concerned about memory loss for eier of your aging parents, schedule an evaluation wi e doctor. 3. Are your aging parents safe in eir home? Take a look around your parents' home, keeping an eye out for any red flags. Do your parents have difficulty navigating a narrow stairway? Has eier parent fallen recently? Are ey able to read directions on medication containers? 4. Are your aging parents safe on e road? Driving can sometimes be challenging for older adults. If your aging parents become confused while driving or you're concerned about eir ability to drive safely, it might be time to stop driving. To help your aging parents maintain eir independence, suggest oer transportation options such as taking e bus, using a van service, hiring a driver or taking advantage of oer local transportation options. 5. Have your aging parents lost weight? Losing weight wiout trying could be a sign at someing's wrong. For aging parents, weight loss could be related to many factors, including: Difficulty in cooking. Your parents could be having difficulty finding e energy to cook, grasping e tools necessary to cook, or reading labels or directions on food products. Loss of taste or smell. Your parents might not be interested in eating if food doesn't taste or smell as good as it used to. Underlying conditions. Sometimes weight loss indicates a serious underlying condition, such as malnutrition, dementia, depression or cancer. If you're concerned about unexplained weight loss for eier of your aging parents, schedule an evaluation wi e doctor. 6. Are your aging parents in good spirits? Note your parents' moods and ask how ey're feeling. A drastically different mood or outlook could be a sign of depression or oer heal concerns. Also talk to your parents about eir activities. Are ey connecting wi friends? Have ey maintained interest in hobbies and oer daily activities? Are ey involved in organizations or clubs? If you're concerned about your parents' moods, schedule an evaluation. Depression can be treated at any age. 7. Are your aging parents able to get around? Pay attention to how your parents are walking. Are ey reluctant or unable to walk usual distances? Is knee or hip arritis making it difficult to get around e house? Would eier parent benefit from a cane or walker? Issues such as muscle weakness and joint pain can make it difficult to move around as well.
