4 Beloved Virtue Virtue is the Need of All Mankind Be the Flaming Fire of Virtue March 22, 2006 I am Virtue, for I hold for the Earth itself and for every life stream upon Earth the flame of virtue. Mankind has lost the sense of virtue. Therefore, I come in response, for you see, when you invoke each virtue and quality of God, there is an angel and a deva who comes to your aid whose prime directive is to focus the light of that virtue for you and for all.

5 The intensity of love in all of its manifestations poured forth through the hearts of sons and daughters of God is what we seek to amplify through all Hearts Centers worldwide. Therefore, o mankind, rise in virtue. We will come when each day you take time to meditate upon these divine qualities, beloved ones. All your thoughts, speech and actions arise from the quality of your personality. Understanding and reclaiming natural Virtue is at the heart of genuine self-improvement.

17 Why study virtue and character? Source: As your love and acceptance increases for the forgotten aspects of your Character, they will re-integrate with you and again become available for your use. Dedicate a notebook to your study of the virtues. Write a list of as many virtues as you can and explore how they are related to each other. You may be surprised to discover a universal pattern in them. Keep a record of the questions you have about the virtues and the insights that you gain from exploring those questions.

Meyer, Santa Clara University, Markula Center for Applied Ethics How does a person develop virtues? Virtues are developed through learning and through practice. Virtues are habits. That is, once they are acquired, they become characteristic of a person. Just as the ability to run a marathon develops through much training and practice, so too does our capacity to be fair, to be courageous, or to be compassionate.

25 How do we develop and practice virtues? A person who has developed virtues will be naturally disposed to act (and feel and speak?) in ways that are consistent with those principles. At the heart of the virtue approach to ethics is the idea of "community". A person's character traits are not developed in isolation, but within and by the communities to which he or she belongs, including family, church, school, and other private and public associations.

26 How do we develop and practice virtues? As people grow and mature, their personalities are deeply affected by the values that their communities prize, by the personality traits that their communities encourage, and by the role models that their communities put forth for imitation. The virtue approach urges us to pay attention to the contours of our communities and the habits of character they encourage and instill. The moral life, then, is not simply a matter of following moral rules and of learning to apply them to specific situations. The moral life is also a matter of trying to determine the kind of people we should be and of attending to the development of character within our communities and ourselves.
